;) I already decided to buy Pioneer 520k but - I saw SnS selling Marantz SR3053 for almost 17k.

i tried to make a quick spec-check and 520 is on 100watts while 3053 is only 8. 520k is 3d ready but 3053, not sure if it is 3d ready because it only sports 1.3a hdmi version and with only 2 hdmi input.

That's the best comparison i can give becasue i have not heard any marantz receivers before.

so to those who already heard both receivers... which one will you recommend?

thanks!

In my opinion best that you personally audition both brands. Sound quality preference may always be subjective and different people have their own taste for sound characteristics. We can help with our added inputs but I think you still need to audition.

For me the lack of TrueHD and DTS Master Audio is a dealbreaker for the Marantz.

Although not a lot may be familiar, HDMI 1.4 includes 3D/ethernet capabilities and Marantz HDMI 1.3a doesn't even include HDMI Standby source.

For me it's important because not all the time will I be using a AVR. With HDMI Standby you can keep the receiver off and the last source used will be passed through to the TV.

A good example is when my 6 yr old watches stuff on the media player, he doesn't turn on the AVR anymore coz he doesn't appreciate it yet so he uses the TV only. Without HDMI standby it wouldn't be possible for him to use the HT setup in the living room coz' it would be too complicated.

sir I appreciate you pointing this out - I have a 5 year old kid and I setup my 500GB and fill it up with all the cartoons she needs and connected it to my xtreamer - when she's the one watching, we only use the TV's audio -

If i understand it right sir, if my xtreamer is connected to pio 520k via hdmi then 520k to LCD, if i turn on the LCDTV and the xtreamer without powering on the 520k and play movies in xtreamer - the sound will be coming out from the LCD?

The pioneer is actually only 80 watts per channel.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/AV-Receivers/Pioneer+Receivers/VSX-520-K

Though too many downsides of the Marantz as scifi-fan has pointed out.

sir in Amazon, 520k is rated at 110x5 Watts. Im noob at rms etc. does this mean that 110 is like combination of several channels?

No it's 80 watts. They inflate it by rating it at 1khz instead of 20hz to 20,000hz which is how it is stated in Pioneer's web site.

magpa pass through naman siya pero di nagstandby yung 520. sa audio parameters may option to set the hdmi to thru and yun, sa tv lang ang audio, pero naka on pa rin yung reciever

mga sir pa help..

Pioneer VSX1020 (P22K original P42K) or Denon 1912(33.5K)..

whats more bang for the buck option?

to be used for future upgrade:
Polk RTi A9 or Paradigm Monitor 9 or Paradigm Studio 60

bought SVS pb10nsd (to be pick-up later)

will both have enough power to drive these speakers?

hi Guys, gurus,

need help.

I have an onkyo TX SR706 (110V). I have a friend who's willing to trade his Onkyo 606 (220V). My dilemma are:
1. budget wise, I need decent fronts (currently have satellite speakers for mid-size room)
2. considering I have velodyne VRP 1000 (110V), which by the way I'm also considering on trading or selling and get US Audio 512.
3. specs wise? I really don't know. I'm literally a newbie on HT, but loves music and movies.
4. regarding price for each - am i on the "lugi" side or not?
5. One of the reasons I'm considering trading my receiver is because, budget wise, I need to make ipon for a better fronts (or complete 5.1)  and 2nd, given both (receiver and sub) are 110V, I have to invest on high quality AVR or stepdown transformer, which I don't have. And will not be getting as I can/may use the funds for speakers.

I know, some would react as to retain my former, but then again, I need funds for decent speakers to complete my set.

Hope any of you can share your thoughts on this.

Thanks.

VSX-521 has much better equalization and may probably output more clean power (they test at the same power with 0.08% THD tolerance for the P versus 0.7% THD for the O). The TX-NR509 is network capable on the other hand, and comes with the features typical of a networked AVR (data streaming and can be controlled over the network). The 509 also has a USB port for mass storage devices and supported handhelds, which is not present in the 521.

hmm no reply.

your just trading an entry level model for another entry level one. Try going higher, like the pioneer 1121, harman kardon 365, onkyo 818 or denon 2312.

Same here. Upgrading to a higher level/model will yield better results and prevent SARS attack :)
