Anyone have experience with these two units? I Have been reading reviews for last three weeks and they are both highly touted.  Would love to hear your personal comments.

Thanx for reading and sharing!

major advantage of 608 vs 707 = hdmi 1.4a spec'ed, which means you can be do 3d switching in the future. is this important. if in the future, you will have multi-source that are 3d capable. you might want this. but without this feature, you can still be able to do 3d by having a 3d capable panel and a 3d capable source (3d capable bd player, media player or htpc) just hook the hdmi from player to panel and your good to go.

major advantages of 707 vs 608 = 1.) audyssey multi-eq (2q only for 608), very big difference in sq once you have used this feature. calibrating using audyssey is the standard for auto sound calibration. multi-eq allows for more mic placements than the 2eq meaning the receiver will have a more accurate measurement of your room's acoustic nuances and adjust the eq accordingly to make the sq better than a non calibrated or 2 eq'ed room. 2.) seven (7) channel pre-outs (sub pre-out only for 608), power has always been one of the major secrets into getting great sq whether for ht or audio. once you have realized that you need more power in the future. the 707 will allow you to hook up into an external power amp to power your speakers and just use the receiver as a pre-amp/processor. this is big. this is also what separates mid/high end from the entry level.

imho. i would get the 707 anytime vs the 608. unless you go straight up to the 708 to also get the 3d hdmi switching capability. but if money is tight. 707 is the monster you should get.  :)

amazon sells this at $491 today. ask @toy01 for a quote, he can bring this item back for you. i got my 806 from him and so have countless other pdvd members. i believe he can bring this back at around the same local price of a 608. just add 3.5k for a dedicated voltage regulator and your set.  :)

I agree w/ sir iinas get the 707! Except for the power rating, the 707 has the same features as the 807. Just be careful in bringing in electronic stuff from US nowadays. I was taxed 20% in bringing in my 807 early this month. Customs according to the forwarding company is conducting a 100% inspection on all arriving goods. I paid tariff for the first time inisip ko na lang na para sa bayan ito.  ;D Pero mas mura pa rin ng 15k comparing it with the local discounted price of 62k.

ok pa naman ang 705. actually yung 05 series specially the 705, 805 and 875 are said to be one of the best series onkyo has developed. the rest after were a little bit watered down. pati 806 ko.  :-[

Thanks for this post iiinas.  The same comments were made to me many times over on another board in respect to 3d vs Pre amp.  Went out yesterday to do a demo of the 608 vs. the 707 and I could not find a dealer with both.  Wanted to see if I could hear a discernable difference between the two as its been said the 608 sound has been "refined".  Am not sure if this is a good thing?  I will admit the 3d capability is not big on my list of must have  features..  Am more interested in power and the ability to preamp down the road.
Maybe its fate but the speakers I bought were the diamond 9's as they are good and better value than the 10 series.  Got the panny 50c10 oveer the x10 ad again it represented great value and great savings.  Perhaps having saved on these 2009 phased out models I am destined to get the 2009 707.  Unfortunately the 707 seems to sell at a premiuim and is more expensive than the 608. :(

The 707 SRP is 50,000K.  It is now "on sale" with 20% off.   ;D

so do I pull the triger on the 608 at 32K or the 707 at 40K? (remember my new Wharf 9.6 fronts are very thirsty!)

You still end up with an 8K credit.   ;)

How's your AVR habit anyway?  Did you do endless set-ups and upgrades with your previous equipment?   Amp power and basic specs appear identical to me, assuming you are not going to utilize Pre-Out.

I know you don't like pre-owned stuff but I would check on Vtec's 705 if I were you.   Basically the same banana to me as well ;)

The 705 US import is being sold on the "for sale thread" now for 23K and its almost new but again 110volt, NO Warranty and No peace of mind (for me).

the us 805 and 806 are also  for sale and are almost new at about 40K and are 110volt, Again.. No warranty and no peace of mind(for me).

These units  could be the best deal around........ if you have an appetite ( and a stomach) for risk.  Sir Von also may be offring a great deal but todays great deal could be tomorrows headache..............so in the famous words of a Speghetti western star (also known as Dirty Harry)........"I know what your thinking Punk...Did I fire 5 shots or 6..........well you gotta ask yourself "am I feeling lucky"....well...are you feeling lucky punk?   :)

of couse we all know the punk gets his head blown off!

When it comes to audio gear expecially receivers I would rather "luck" not play a part in my buying decisions.

The more I think about it the more I like The 707 .....at 40K .... not a bad deal.....now where did my wife hide her credit card  :o

Found the wifes Visa.  Pulled the trigger.  707 now sitting in the living room with the new 50c10 plasma and wharfs. Took out of the box and without reading any directions hooked up the speakers, CD player and the PS3.  All analog composite as I only have one HDMI cable.  Took me about an hour to do this simple task. ::)

Room is a lovely mess.
