Re: what receiver should i buy denon 1910 or yamaha 667
« Reply #2130 on: Apr 28, 2011 at 05:35 PM »
you're saying i should stick with the more expensive receiver. I have an htib speaker set with is old but need replacing.

if i but the denon i save 7000 which can go to my speaker budget.

My question now is spend for an expensive receiver(yammy 667 or denon 2310) now and stick with it for a long time or get a cheaper unit today (denon 1910), buy decent speakers and later replace new receiver 5 years from now which might have hdmi 1.5??? which save me more money in the long run?

Buy what will make you happy now.

Yamaha's got ypao. How different is that from Audyssey?
The 667 got 3d and 1910 has non.
What important is the sound quality. So masmaganda ba ang sound quality ng denon 1910 kay sa yamaha 667?

Hey bro, for that price range, check out the Onkyo 509. I'm enjoying mine right now.
Packed with features even for just an entry level AVR. Also, I heard Audyssey is much better than YPAO.
HTH!

Audyssey is amazing.

I live in a townhouse so I have to be wary not to disturb the neighbors (too much).

I was looking at an Onkyo but their implementation of Audyssey IMHO is a step behind their Denon equivalents (price wise).

Multi2EQ is implemented on the Onkyo 509 but MultiEQ XT is available on the Denon 1610/11/12.

Good point!

If the 1612 were available lang sana when I got my 509, I'm sure I would have gotten it.
Thanks!

Audyssey is more advanced on the Denon receivers but the Onkyo's have better amplifiers and power the speakers better.

The Onkyo 509 uses 2EQ, while the Denon 1612 uses MultEQ. MultEQ XT is a higher implementation still, that is not in either of these models.

Unfortunately DENON has the LOUSIEST GUI compared to Pioneer (I think the best) and Onkyo.

Mahirap talaga magdecide ng upgrade now that I'm more aware of the technology. Back when I got the 1610 I was just going back into HT so the choice was easier (ignorance is bliss).

Now that I'm a bit smarter I know my needs.

- Sound must be top notch BUT not at the expense of clarity at Low Volumes (I watch movies more than Music).

I'll probably upgrade when I see Airplay fully implemented the way it should be because I have lots of Apple products in my household (mac, ipad, iphone, ipod touch). For now it seems Pioneer leads in this area but I can't get a AVR without Audyssey. Without Audyssey I had to constantly have the remote in my hand lest biglang mag-boom yung bahay sa lakas ng tunog during action sequences mas lalo na at night when I am watching.

Yun bang Dolby Volume parang Audyssey Dyn Vol din ang purpose? O pang Dolby sources lang sya?  ???

I think you're talking about Dolby DRC (Dynamic Range Compression)

Yes it's limited to content with dolby audio tracks with DRC.

With Audyssey, it doesn't matter whether the audio codec is used.

Just googled it, no sir, it is similar to Audyssey Dyn Vol nga. Onkyo 5007 has it.

When it comes to GUI, it doesnt really bother me much, kasi setup lang naman yun. Ang importante madaling maintindihan at mabago ang settings. Pero empre, its nice to have.  :)

This is exactly the reason why keep more than enough receivers. When i get tired of one's brand sound & switch to another. I have 3 onkyos(3008,876,707), 3 yamaha's(6090,1800,2700), 3 denons(4306,2807,2808), & 1 sony(5200ES). Not to mention the 3 stereo receivers i have in my warehouse.  ;D

For me sound of the pioneer elite is very close to the signature sound of Denon that has more emphasis on the highs. Kaya siguro sinasabi nila na bright sounding receiver ang pioneer. I was using a wharfe 9 series diamond before & I like the sound. Kaya lang, I also like to try marantz that's why I have to dispose it to fund my insanity over AVRs.  ;D

Harman Kardon wattage may seem understated because that is with all channels driven. The Denon spec is for two channels driven only.

yes i've read about Japanese brand always inflate there power figures pero has anyone done a side b side comparison between denon and harman kardon.

ganda kasi ng features ng denon.
HarmanK may sound better as some claim pero its features are so bare. It's sound quality must be so good that it trounces denon's features, which I don't really know...

I think HK's have a warmer sound compared to Denon. Best to do a comparison and with what speakers will you pair your potential receiver with?

;) I already decided to buy Pioneer 520k but - I saw SnS selling Marantz SR3053 for almost 17k.

i tried to make a quick spec-check and 520 is on 100watts while 3053 is only 8. 520k is 3d ready but 3053, not sure if it is 3d ready because it only sports 1.3a hdmi version and with only 2 hdmi input.

That's the best comparison i can give becasue i have not heard any marantz receivers before.

so to those who already heard both receivers... which one will you recommend?

thanks!

For me the lack of TrueHD and DTS Master Audio is a dealbreaker for the Marantz.

Although not a lot may be familiar, HDMI 1.4 includes 3D/ethernet capabilities and Marantz HDMI 1.3a doesn't even include HDMI Standby source.

For me it's important because not all the time will I be using a AVR. With HDMI Standby you can keep the receiver off and the last source used will be passed through to the TV.

A good example is when my 6 yr old watches stuff on the media player, he doesn't turn on the AVR anymore coz he doesn't appreciate it yet so he uses the TV only. Without HDMI standby it wouldn't be possible for him to use the HT setup in the living room coz' it would be too complicated.

The pioneer is actually only 80 watts per channel.

Though too many downsides of the Marantz as scifi-fan has pointed out.
