Grade 1 MCL daw.. 1 week rest then re-evaluate.. I think Caguioa's overworked.. he's had to do everything for Ginebra this conference.. good thing for them, their next 3 games won't be against the top teams..

yes, it's grade 1 MCL.

agree with you on all points. only Caguioa and Macklin are playing consistently for BGSM this conference. LA, Ellis, Hatfield are on and off. Kerby is there, pero ung katawan lang nya. he has not significantly contributed. so with Mamaril, who's only bright spot this conference so far was that game against SanMig Coffee.

Just heard that Andy Jao is no longer with RoS ..... so that's why he's not in the bench during the RoS games I've watched this conference.

Quite mysterious that Jao isn't with RoS anymore ..... he's been a longtime ally of Yeng Guiao, who coincidentally was signed-up to a fresh multi-year contract.

I consider Andy Jao & Joaqui Trillo to be the best team managers/consultants during this era ...... by a mile.

These guys play within the salary cap rules ...... and despite this "handicap", these guys have a great eye for locals and imports.

Compare this to the long line of pathetic SMC team officials who disregard all salary cap rules and get all the choice draft picks via dirty tactics .... and still cant form dominating/cohesive teams.

Ginebra on a roll.....4 wins in a row. monster games from Tenorio and Macklin, filling the void left by Caguioa.

on another note, mukhang napikon si Salud sa Alaska.

Snapshots actually show SMC's Simon entering the lane during Abueva's FT attempt ...... Simon even nudged Abueva just before the attempt.

Haven't seen that kind of close contact with a player attempting a FT before.

Funny that Tim Cone had almost always been on the losing end during these types of close moments, when he was still with ALASKA.  ;)

the one doing the coverage stated that the correct interpretation of the rule was that it doesn't matter who was first, as long as players from both teams go beyond the free throw line, a jump ball would have to be called. (17:10 to 17:17)

the "controversy" can be seen from 15:45 to 16:00 and the replay at around 16:35 to 16:45.

The problem with the PBA is that they allow players to move toward the basket even before the ball is released. Racela already pointed this out last year during a game vs Ginebra when he was still an assistant coach. The PBA said it is allowed. When Petron started doing it in their next game vs B-Meg, they allowed it as well. When B-Meg players followed suit, they called a lane violation, called a jump and nullified the free throw. Tim Cone complained and he was ejected.

I watched that Alaska-SanMig game live. In previous free throws, the refs allowed those players behind the 3pt line to move in a step, before the shot is released. During that Abueva FT, all 4 were behind the 3pt line. Baguio and Jazul switched sides that prompted Simon and Barroca to move a step inside the 3pt line para makahabol. Baguio then faked to his right at humabol si Simon. Simon's momentum left him standing beside Abueva even before Jazul and Barroca dashed in. The people sitting with me were already saying that Abueva will be given another shot so it didn't matter if he missed. Gulat kami nung tumawag ng jump ball yung referee on the other side. Referee 28 had a clear view of Simon's violation but he didn't make the call. Disconcerting the shooter should have been the applicable rule at hindi yung sabay na pagpasok.

To make matters worse for Alaska, Trillo was fined 40K for his comments at pag-confront niya sa officials after the game. I just don't get why the officiating in the PBA just keeps getting worse.

Exactly ...... haven't seen an opposing player that close to a FT shooter in a long while - last one I recall that close was during the rough-housing early 80's of the PBA.

To think that Simon bumped Abueva and still no call from the referee.

It was just a few pre-seasons ago when Salud himself stated that the referees should let the players play (win or lose) during the closing minutes of tight games ...... he even used the 2010 Game1 Finals between PFOODS & ALASKA when Devance was called for a last-second foul on Raymundo, as an example.

Like what I've been saying since Tim Cone went to SMC ...... he has toned down, after being a longtime & harsh critic of the dirty tactics & favorable calls/treatment that SMC teams has long employed and enjoyed in the PBA, etc.

Just goes to show that one's opinion and understanding of things does get muddled when his salary depends on it.  ;D

The referee who made the call was on Abueva's left side. He made the call immediately when Jazul and Barroca stepped beyond the free throw line. With respect to his position and field of vision, you can say that he made the right call. On the other hand, the referee who was on Abueva's right side should have made a call when Simon stood beside Abueva but he didn't.

Are referees allowed to confer with one another as to what call is to be made? Can the referee who didn't make the call tell the referee who did make the call, what to call? ;D Can the referees review the video to make the right call?

I guess it all boils down to a terrible non-call by one referee and a supposedly "controversial" but good call by another referee. Alaska still had a chance of winning but missed twice. As they say, breaks of the game. What else is new? ::)

The ref who made the call actually didn't blow the whistle immediately. Abueva had to stop and look at the ref before he blew his whistle. Sabi nga ng isang kasama ko sobrang gulat siguro ni Calvin nung makita niyang ang lapit na ng mukha ni Barroca sa kanya.. ;D

And refs can confer with each other. I've seen that happen so many times. One ref's call is overturned depending on which happened first or which is the greater violation.

One more thing that really showed how badly that game was officiated in the last few seconds was on that last play after the jump ball. Once Abueva crossed the half court line, Jazul signaled for a timeout right in front of the same referee who didn't make the call on Simon earlier. Even Baguio did the same thing. And the referee just pointed towards the direction of the Alaska bench. Alaska still had a 30-sec timeout then. PBA rules allow an offensive player on the court, even the one not holding the ball, to call a timeout. Abueva wasn't doing anything yet when the referee saw Jazul calling timeout. He should have called that. After the shot was missed, I saw Jazul confront the referee on that non-call. For me, that was what decided the game, not that lane violation call.

I'm not sure but I believe they've changed that rule. Only the one holding the ball can call a timeout. Or am I wrong?

It's unfortunate for Jamelle Cornley & ROS since he's an import-in-waiting (assuming he's within the height limit for future conferences) ..... heck, he's a big reason that ROS finally won a PBA championship.

Not the first time that this has happened though ...... countless ex-imports have had too much of a good time during their stay here in the country.  ;D

=========================================================================

Not looking good for ALASKA tonight against PETRON ..... Casio is still out with a bum knee, while Thoss will sit out with back spasms.

Espinas and/or Sam "Hands of Butter" Eman needs to step-up bigtime for ALASKA, if they're to have a chance.

So one team finally managed to sign former Laker DJ Mbenga. And to my surprise, it's Barako Bull, the team that almost disbanded a few years ago due to financial troubles. Makes you wonder if the team is really owned by George Chua and the Linas. :D

BARAKO BULL had been playing in the PBA for more than a year, yet not one of their products can be seen on any retail store anywhere.

It was only very recently that BARAKO BULL was sold in stores ...... and it's being marketed by no less than San Miguel Corp.

Yup, BARAKO BULL (the company & franchise) is being fronted by Chua & Lina ..... but it is owned by SMC. Of course, everybody knows this open secret ..... everyone except for Comm. Cheato Salud.  ;)

George Chua lost most of his money when ..... a.) cameras went digital, hence their PHOTOKINA/AGFA brand went bankrupt .... b.) PHOTOKINA got involved in some mess when it put out a bid for poll automation ..... c.) leading to RED BULL Thailand voiding Chua's rights to locally market RED BULL.

Meanwhile, Bert Lina saw a massive drop in revenue when FEDEX suddenly transferred their Subic operations to China.

Both Chua & Lina saw an opportunity to cash in via countless heinous PBA trades and transactions ...... Arwind Santos was a 2x MVP/BPC runner-up & All-Defensive team fixture when Bert Lina / Lito Alvarez traded him to SMB for the magnificent Ken Bono (who never even played for AIR21).

It is said that Arwind Santos came with a P20M tag-price when he was sold este traded to SMB.

reports say that Alaska was also supposed to enlist the services of Mbenga but did not push through with it because he was asking for a salary that was above the salary cap for imports. i wonder if he had the same asking price for Barako....

^ Makes you wonder more about Toroman ...... he preaches good ball movement and player conditioning, but his eye for talent has been suspect.

All of his chosen imports for the SMC teams have been duds and failures (Jackson Vroman anyone?) ....... plus his rotations for his PETRON and BARAKO teams have been iffy.

He doesn't play pros like Kramer, Allado, etc ..... who have long proven to be steady veterans. Instead he gives minutes to hype-jobs such as Intal, Macapagal, Villanueva, etc.

To top it all off, he hands the reins of the BARAKO offense to no-conscience, no-passing PG Urbiztondo.
