Maliksi has been healthy since being traded from Ginebra. He was Barako's leading scorer last conference and easily the team's best player. He even played well when Barako played at the Dubai Invitational. And in their 1st game earlier vs TNT, Maliksi's presence would have changed the outcome of that game. But if it were Gonzales/Pacana, they would still have lost.

Anyway, here's Luigi Trillo's take on the trade:

And here's Barako Bull's Team Manager's comments on Luigi:

http://www.spin.ph/sports/basketball/news/barako-bull-official-casyao-hits-back-at-trillo-for-tweets-on-illogical-maliksi-trade-v02

Nataw naman ako dun sa sinabi ni Casyao.

“Mind your own business. Wag siyang makialam sa mga trade na ganito,” said Casyao

Yun yun eh. Business talaga nila yung pag-trade ng player sa SMC. >:D

kung kalakasan lang sana ni Gonzales noong nasa Fedex pa siya fair pa siguro yung trade.

Beg to differ bro ...... Wesley Gonzales has been crap for a good majority of his PBA career.

Indeed there was a small stretch of games wherein he did good enough to get minutes (heck, it was Yeng Guiao - the only coach who can get something out of castaway players) ...... but this stretch wasnt significant enough to change other teams opinion about him.

Yeo bound for Air21 as Petron looks ahead to 2014 rookie draft  :o >:D >:D >:D >:D
http://www.spin.ph/sports/basketball/news/seldom-used-yeo-bound-for-air21-as-petron-looks-ahead-to-2014-rookie-draft

Pumaren may like Yeo but passing up on the chance of being able to get Parks via a first round draft pick is illogical.

Ginebra trading Kerby Raymundo for Rob Reyes. Understandable since Rob Reyes, together with Ildefonso and Pennisi, was Ato Agustin's muscle inside the paint when Petron won its championship under Agustin. I guess Agustin finds Raymundo soft.

It is indeed illogical ..... but this is AIR21/BARAKO BULL ...... this team is managed by Lito Alvarez and owned by Bert "Pimp Daddy" Lina - both of whom report to a certain Ramon Ang.

The first version of the trade was fair. This new one is just lopsided.

Ginebra gets James Sena and Air21's 2014 1sr rd pick for Kerby Raymundo? Kerby has been riddled with injuries and isn't the same player he was. But he's traded for a potential 1st pick and a decent back-up big man? Ginebra's the new Petron when it comes to hoarding.

And Yeo for Omolon? They're trading Yeo because there's a logjam in his position at Petron. Omolon plays the same position as Tubid/Lutz/Lassiter. What's the point of getting Omolon then?

Ayaw talaga padehado ng SMC.

IMO both versions of the trade are lopsided bro ...... one doesnt even have to know the exact details - as long as its a Lina/Chua franchise trade with its SMC master; it's guaranteed to be DUBIOUS.  ;)

Let's check it anyway .......

**** James Sena is an efficient back-up 4/5, while Kerby is the inefficient starting 4/5.

Kerby can still score high in spots, but he has slowed down with age and injuries.

One other angle that people doesn't see here ...... salaries. Sena is a 2nd rd draft pick, hence is probably earning around 150K/month. Meanwhile, Kerby is the only new-max (420K/month) player in the PBA.

Why would a "poor" team like AIR21 pay top money to an oft-injured, ball-hogging bigman?

2014 1st round pick? ....... it's almost guaranteed to be high since AIR21 doesnt win much. So, it's likely going to be a bluechip e.g. Parks, Banchero, Lanete, etc.

**** Yeo for Omolon makes some sense for both teams.

Yeo can get minutes for AIR21 ..... though Omolon is an SF, he doesn't play like your traditional SF - he likes camping near the paint for easy points. It's unlikely he'll get more minutes, but his game doesn't conflict with the other PET SF's e.g. Lassiter, Tubid, etc.

That being said, in the overall scheme of things, it's still very much lopsided - since getting Yeo was probably the "consuelo-de-bobo" given to Franz Pumaren by Lito Alvarez/Bert Lina ...... small compensation for losing a young, efficient Sena and a superstar-in-waiting Ray Parks.

**** Like I've posted a few times earlier in the thread, it's very amusing/ironic what's happening to Franz Pumaren.

In the PBA, he's being held down by the very same corrupt padrinos that he benefited from, during his UAAP coaching career.  ;)

Emman Monfort just beat Ginebra tonight. He's been really impressive this conference. He plays like Jayvee Casio but physically stronger. Perfect yung game niya sa system ni Toroman. I thought he'd be a solid back-up PG but he's turning out to be a very dependable starting PG. Matalino maglaro at walang takot.

Minalas rin ang Ginebra at na-injure si Japeth. I hope it's nothing serious. Tuhod pa naman yun. Tenorio just scored 4pts after scoring a career-high 34pts in their last game. Di nakasabay kay Monfort.

Probably the best highlight in that game. Hilarious and impressive at the same time.

I agree w/ you sir!  parang nagpapawis lang buong ginkings-walang balak manalo  :P
The way i see the barako bulls maglaro, parang gilas v1.0, ang ganda ng rotation ng players, 10-11 players ata naipasok ni coach toroman, while si coach ato 8-9 lang  :P

Hopefully nothing serious nga injury ni Japeth

In other PBA news, BARAKO BULL has initiated a trade proposal which will send PG Eman Monfort to BARANGAY GINEBRA for the rights to bigman Ed Ducut and its 2036 2nd round pick.

Update:  PBA Comm. Chito Salud has deemed the latest trade proposal as "uneven" and demanded that BARAKO BULL include PF Dave Marcelo in the deal to make it fair.

Ginebra needs a better coach more than a better import. They were totally outcoached tonight vs Alaska. Ang gulo ng plays ni Ato nung last 2 minutes ng laro. Pati players niya di maintindihan. Maybe he's just not familiar with his personnel but a good coach should be able to design good plays no matter what kind of players he has.

Credit also goes to Alaska. Grabe ang composure ng team na 'to. They blew a 16pt lead in a matter of minutes pero di talaga nag-panic. They just ran their plays and played defense.

The Big J returning to BGK will be guaranteed blockbuster but wont bring in the championship/s.

The Ron Jacobs system has long been outdated, what more of Jawo's gung-ho, bahala-na-si-batman style?

Sadly, those schools of coaching will look lost in today's fast-paced offenses and zone defenses.

Call me crazy, but a Yeng Guiao-coached BGK ....... that's a contender right there.

A Tim Cone-coached PETRON ....... you can start counting the championships.

i hate to say it......but yes, i agree with you. more than the outdated strategy, Jawo is not his old self anymore. he may inspire and motivate the players but coaching wise, i don't think he still has it. one incident that eroded my confidence in Jawo was when he was being interviewed on radio during fiba-asia. he was incoherent, and his answers were unresponsive to the questions thrown at him.

Blame it on the SMC Mgt for the poor performances of its teams. Magulo un palipat lipat ng players and changes of head coaches. Pati un lipat lipat ng mga assistant coaches from sister teams.
No chemistry among its coaching staffs and players becoz they have no time to bond.
Just look at ROS and Alaska. They show results coz their mgt dont meddle too much with the decision of their respective coaches.

+1TB ........ more than being greedy, madaya din ang SMCorp.

You can be greedy without cheating ...... but SMCorp has taken pro-basketball cheating at a whole new level.

Where else in all professional sports do you see one corporation control a league with:

3 main teams (PETRON, BGK & SMC)
3 lackey teams (BARAKO, AIR21 & GPORT)
6 board voting rights
1 Commissioner (This man also holds a separate VP position with SMCorp)

But there's more ...... they also have 1-ABL team which they also use as storage for their PBA players.

Salary cap violations, under-the-table deals, paid referees, etc ..... it's all covered by Danding's henchmen.

^Saw this as it happened and watched it again on Youtube.

Mga taga-San Mig Coffee naman nagsimula eh. Blakely wrapped his arm around Hayes' neck and pulled him down. Di naman bumagsak si Blakely dahil tinulak ni Hayes. He pulled Hayes down para kunwari finoul siya. Siyempre gumanti si Hayes at tinukuran niya yung ulo ni Blakely nung tumayo siya. Hayes walked away and even though Blakely came to confront him, it was clear that he was just going to talk trash. Nakisawsaw lang si Devance kaya ayun nagkagulo na. Nabong was just trying to protect his teammate. Pinalibutan ba naman ng tatlong kalaban. And what Pingris did was just too much. He sucker punched Nabong!

Kung ako si Salud, I would suspend Devance, Blakely, Pingris and Nabong. Blakely should have been called for a Flagrant 2 for that takedown on Hayes. Same with Devance. Pingris and Nabong should be suspended at least 3 games. I don't care if this is a short tournament. They should suffer the consequences of their actions.

I guess the only guy who was thinking straight during that time was Tim Cone.

Devance has always been a fake tough-guy ...... never in the center of altercations, always content to cheapshot/blindside like what he did to Hayes.

At the very least, it'll probably be suspensions for Pingris & Nabong.

I say probably, because this is Comm. Cheato Salud - many funny rulings have happened under his watch, especially when SMCorp players are involved.

===============================================================

SMC's Maiksi scored 18pts (plus almost 10 rebounds, some assists & blocks) in SMC's win over GPORT ...... he has overtaken Simon's role as primary bench scorer.

Meanwhile, the players BARAKO BULL got for trading Maliksi, Wesley Gonzales & Cris Pacana has yet to see action for the team ........ in fact, they're on the reserved list.

Why would any team trade for players that they wont even use?

Why trade your star player for 2 players that won't contribute AND increase your overall salary costs?   ;)

Blakely and Hayes were actually cool.  They were just bumping and making "gulang" on each other which, to me, is normal in basketball. Hayes was walking away na nga.  Then all hell broke loose when Devance, Nabong, Pingris went into the picture.  Yes, agree.  Pingris should get the biggest penalty as he took the first swing on Nabong.

Tim Cone did a Jeff Van Gundy hahaha!!!
