^ That's iffy for me ...... like @bored posted earlier, during the last BGK-ALA-BGK game, Mark Caguioa had a last-second shot that was also contested and definitely had much more contact than this one.

What's appalling about that BGK-ROS last-second shot ...... not only was it iffy, the foul was called way LATE, it's as if the referee (who blew the whistle) was also milking the clock for ROS to have no shot when they get the ball back.

I had thought (same as everybody, including Jason Webb) that the clock review got it wrong - more time should have been left for ROS ...... it turns out the scenario was worse, since 0.3 sec remaining on the shot-clock was due to the LATE call of that referee.

perhaps we are looking at it at the wrong perspective >:D

perhaps the non-call on the last second shot by Caguioa in the Alaska-Ginebra, where there was more contact, was an incorrect decision by the referees.

perhaps the call on the Baracael shot, during the ROS-Ginebra game, was the right decision though a bit late.

two "wrongs" don't make it "right". You don't repeat what you did wrong just to be consistent.

perhaps.

An iffy foul will not affect a shooters shot...
If its too obvious the referee should call it kahit dying seconds pa yan because that's part of the game...
Belga decided the game for RoS not the refs...

Caguioa's last-second shot had more contact, but it was because he was trying to draw contact with his release ....... Baracael was trying to draw contact (with his left arm) as well.

The very late call was dubious ...... it was late by more than a second.

Also, this particular referee was cited by the entire ROS management as having made similar past dubious calls on them as well.

wawa naman TNT ko.dame nang talo

They took the worst hit from the FIBA Asia and they're now feeling it. Physically and emotionally drained na yung main gunners nila. They clearly haven't recovered yet. I haven't seen TNT lose 4 straight games in years. They should just regroup next season. Tumatanda na rin kasi yung core nila.

Hey Comm. Cheato Salud ....... SMC just beat MERALCO, 88-87, with yet another controversial ending.

With a few seconds remaining in the game and SMC up by 1 point, MERALCO import Mario West attempts a desperation 3-pointer but was clearly fouled by SMC import Marcus Blakely.

Result ? ........ no foul was called by any of the referees.

It's funny, but just a few games ago, BGK was in the exact same scenario as MERALCO - yet their opponent was called for a questionable foul.

How come, MERALCO wasn't given the same treatment ?

"That's what I'm talking about, baby."
- Tim Cone, Ex-ALASKA head-coach & current SMC head-coach

"That's B.S. .... hindi ganito ang officiating nung nasa PUREFOODS pa ako."
- Ryan Gregorio, Ex-PUREFOODS head-coach & current MERALCO head-coach

"Taena .... ganito pala kapag wala ka na sa poder ni Daddy Danding."
- Jong Uichico, Ex-SMB head-coach & current MERALCO assistant-coach

I've watched the game, I don't think it was a clear foul. West wasn't expecting Blakely kaya na off-balance siya. I would say it's a 50/50.

As for Baracael shot, Belga clearly didn't foul him :)

Here's a video of that Meralco-San Mig endgame. At the 2:14 mark.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxR4D0bjkqs

Blakely clearly jumped into West's left arm kaya nawala yung bola. Interestingly enough, the same referee who called the foul on Belga was also officiating that game earlier.

ginebra lost by 15 points. tnt was just 8 points shy of eliminating ginebra which, despite a very strong line-up, fares poorly.

just a playful thought....could they be doing it on purpose? po they could go up in the rookie draft? they are unofficially at the third spot in the drafting order. sanggalang, slauhter and parks are the top three picks so far. doing well this conference could make them slide to number 4. they did it once already, and managed to pick marlou aquino. they sure could do it again.

as i've said...just a playful thought.

They're picking high in the draft because of the pick they got from Air21. How they perform this conference won't affect their draft order. Ma-eliminate sila or mag-champion man sila, walang epekto sa kanila yun. Yung performance ng Air21 ang kanilang basis.

Ginebra will most likely have one of the top 3 picks this coming draft especially now that Air21 has been eliminated. San Mig (from Global) and Rain or Shine (from Barako) will have the other 2 picks. The chance of Ginebra getting the 1st overall pick is slim compared to San Mig and ROS but the 3rd overall pick is not bad given that 3 solid big men are in the pool. Parks isn't confirmed to join the draft so the top names will be Slaughter, Sangalang and Almazan.

Yup, it's AIR21's performance that will bring in the high-draft pick to BGK ........ same as SMC (who'll rely on GLOBAL's 2-last place finishes this season).

Note: As usual, this was SMCorp handiwork ..... getting high picks from their farm teams, aside from their bluechip players.

Jaworski's BGK was probably the last team to TANK almost an entire season ...... indeed, it was extremely obvious thay wanted Marlou that year. IIRC, Yeng Guiao also tanked a conference hoping to catch-up on BGK's losses.

Besides, there has been no more need for any SMCorp team to tank ...... they just need to use any of their 3 farm teams (AIR21, BARAKO & GLOBAL) and voila, you have your bluechip rookie in an instant e.g. Barocca, Lassiter, Lutz, Ababou, Maliksi, Fajardo, Mallari, Al-Hussaini, Baclao, Guevarra, etc.

yeah....figured it out way too late to edit my post. :)

anyway, to the quarterfinals or to the quarters tonight for TNT and BGK.

we were really laughing that time. we knew that those losses were intentional, some fans were just not able to see it. IIRC, Jaworski was even assaulted by a fan because of their very poor "performance". the guy landed in jail and was visited by no less than the victim, Jawo.

kahit naman magaling na players makuha mo sa draft kung palpak ang coach mo, mapagsamantala ang management mo at mapag imbot, pupulutin ka din sa kangkungan.

san miguel Teams have always fallen short of the championship despite loading all its team with championship caliber players, baka tadhana na ang nag papakita  ng resulta ng ginagawa nila.

Nice game last night. BGK eliminated TNT. Muntik na nanaman mahabol ng tuluyan 'yung 21 pts na lamang ng BGK. The rebounds kept BGK alive, Tinyente had 24 points, 10 assists while Ellis finished the game with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

yeah...double whammy for the gin kings. still, they almost won it last night. it was a very painful injury for caguioa, figuratively speaking --- injury on a slippery floor. ni hindi man lang dahil sa gulang ng kalaban. good thing, though, is that the injury came at the tail-end of their campaign. caguioa has all the time he needs to heal. same with kerby and japeth. bad news: ato will still be their coach next season.

on another note, it just occurred to me --- the other series is a rematch of pala. SanMig Coffee vs. Alaska, except that last conference was the semis. same scenario, though. SanMig having the upperhand (and considered as sure to advance) with Alaska pulling an upset. the twice-to-beat advantage of SanMig is gone, with alaska winning their initial encounter. will they be able to make a repeat tonight? if SanMig wins, Arwind might get the MVP award since it will adversely affect Abueva's chances.

well....i don't think abueva will win it also even if they advance to the semis, or even to the finals. media and player votes will most likely  go against him. but i'm sure, he will get the ROY award.

Spot on ...... even if ALASKA wins it all this conference with Abueva averaging a quadruple-double per game - he WON'T win the MVP award.

Even if Abueva hits a half-court shot at the buzzer every game - he WON'T win the MVP award.

The only way that Abueva wins the MVP ...... a.) He is traded to an SMCorp team very soon ...... b.) He somehow proposes to Kris Aquino during halftime of a playoffs game (has happened before, right?)

If there's one more great evil about this SMCorp empire, it's that they control the every voting party there is for the season-ending awards.

They control the PBA board, they control the player votes (heck, they got 6/10 teams in the PBA) and they also control the media votes ....... last season, Gary David had an epic efficient year, even making the Finals - yet he was beaten by Caguioa who didn't even make a single Finals appearance the whole season.

To make it worse for David, even Arwind Santos got ahead of him in the last years voting.

I'd say that this year's MVP will likely be disputed by Arwind, LA and Abueva (pa-consuelo-de-bobo).

The sad thing is, among the 3, Abueva has clearly made the biggest impact to his respective team and to the league in general ...... not to mention that he can create his own shot, something which a stat-stuffer like Arwind cannot do.

By the way, I half-expect that the ZEBRAS will somehow be "extra-active" in tonight's ALASKA-SMC knockout game.

Every major player from ALASKA was in foul trouble last game ...... I expect something similar (and others) tonight.  ;)

As expected ...... the ZEBRAS are on "target" on this ALA-SMC knockout game.

Mckinnis has played practically all game in the paint ...... I can't recall him getting a foul from his defenders. He's getting hacked yet the zebras just watch.
