Indeed, that PETRON team was more about role-players e.g. Pennisi & Duncil were very valuable during that run ....... partly accidental due to their many injuries that conference.
TnT did choose PETRON (ALASKA and one other team had the same record), partly to blame then was a very flawed quotient system ...... it's a good thing that the PBA board has since implemented the knockout-game rule to break certain ties.
However, TnT also had key people who got injured and/or broke down towards the end of the conference e.g. Reyes, Dillinger, Castro, etc.
Also, a major reason for PETRON winning was the the import Grundy ...... IMO Grundy was one of the best ever from this import height limit (6'5" below). Whatever PETRON needed, he provided (very similar to old SLR import Damien Owens).
Ato Agustin is old-school coaching. He's not part of that long outdated Ron Jacobs-fraternity of coaches. However, Ato is still evolving as a PBA coach ...... the main knock on him has been his tendency to always rely on a short rotation.
Tim Cone also works on a short rotation - but the difference is Tim Cone has his team always sharing and moving the ball via his triangle offense ....... BGK on the other hand, has more than a few ball-centric/hogging players e.g. Caguioa, Tenorio, Helterbrand, etc.

It's another PBA draft day today ...... where the ultra-elite teams get stronger and their farm-teams get richer.
Manood para makita ang harap-harapang garapalan na gagawin nang SMCorp and Bert Lina-teams.
