Wok With Yan. I remember the varying mottos on Mr. Yan's apron, and how jealous I'd get whenever he'd feed the studio guests. Haloooo!

Yeah, and he would read a fortune cookie at the end of his show. I remember a particular epispode where he visited our country, specifically Villa Escudero.

Armida Siguion Reyna did a celebrity cooking show once before on channel 2.

Jamie Oliver is cool. :) The guy has an irreverent attitude around the kitchen -- which I can relate to as I love to cook gung-ho style.  ;D

Oh, I like watching her on the Lifestyle network too.  And that Food911 & Elton Brown's show. Not necessarily great cooks but I like their show's format. :)

Agree on your assessment of James Barber. I once saw an episode where he was simmering veggies and not noticing that the RED cap of the tabasco sauce he used found its way into the mix. It was such a knee-slapper.  ;D

Another fave of mine is Biba's Kitchen. Too bad Discovery Channel stopped showing that superb cooking show.

Another time ,while chopping, he left the stove on for some period and then started to wonder why it was getting a little too hot. ;D "No wonder it was getting hot in here..." And then he shut it off.  ;D

The funny thing is, despite all the cooking shows that I watch and have seen, and despite the fact that we had cooking classes in school, I still don't know how to cook!

my favorite cooking show, hands down is that show they show on discovery channel or bbc, it's this fat italian guy with curly hair, who's kinda gay.  all he talks about is italian food.  and it looks terribly yummy.  he eats so much, you can here him heaving.  antonio scorluccio or something like that.  italian food is da bomb.

Well, Tyler Florence (Food 911) has this show called Tyler's Ultimate, and he picks a dish--omelet, apple pie, seafood soup, goes to where this dish was invented, watches how it's made, goes somewhere else where a variation is made, then goes back to New York where he does his "ultimate" version.

I usually ignore his version and download the recipe for the classic version.  Got the recipe for classic French omelet, apple tartin, bouillabaise (sp?).  Mm boy, them good.

Then there's Mario Batali's Mario Eats Italy, where Mario goes up and down Italy and shows us the best eats.  That show is dangerous to watch--I usually end up raiding the fridge after.

Good Eats has some useful tips, and besides, it's funny. It once showed the original recipe for Ceasar's salad (you don't use anchovie, you use Worcestershire, and you eat it with your hands), and better, shows us the historical and chemical basis for some of the dishes made.

Gordon Eliot's fun.  HIs latest show is Follow That Food, where he traces some dish or ingredient from its origins to around the world.

Tony Boudain's show is fun.  I'd like to have his job.

Rachel Ray--eh, too perky.  NIgella Lawson's more my idea of a woman.

I miss Keith Floyd in BBC.  Now that was one mad chef.

That's her alright. The good thing about Biba's show is that she demystifies Italian cooking. She shows just how easy it is to cook authentic Italian dishes.  My mom, who hates anything non-Filipino, even watched religiously and learned a lot of good techniques -- heck, I've learned a lot of good techniques from her!  ;D

When I was still working for Skycable, the first lifestyle channel used to air this cooking show starring this grandmotherly woman with white hair and she specializes in complicated scandinavian and european dishes. I still remember her cooking coq a vin the traditional way. YUMMY! Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the show or the chef.

Tyler Florence is cool. Food 911 is a good show.

Mario Batali's show is just amazing. It's a travelogue and a cooking show rolled into one. My only frustration is that you can't really copy most of the dishes he serves here in RP because his ingredients are either hard-to-find or too darn expensive.

I never really liked Bourdain, I think the guy's too arrogant.   Keith Floyd, on the other hand, is one cool dude.  :)

Oh, and Ming Tsai's East Meets West deserves special mention.  ;D

i used to watch the urban peasant on discovery channel a few years ago, he's so sloppy  ;D and he puts anything he sees in his casserole  ;D

biba was also in discovery channel, but too bad they nixed these cooking shows in the afternoon  :'(

the daza shows airs every saturday at 9 am on abc-5, while sylvia reynoso gala airs at 9:30 am  ;D, theres a new cooking show every sunday at around 10:00 on abc-5 with a new host, and at 11 am its heny sison's baking show at ibc-13  ;D
