Anthony Bourdain's book...

I got 'A Cook's Tour' and I just finished the chapter on his trip to Mexico  ;D  Iguana?  No way, Jose.

But I would like to go to The French Laundry in Napa and try the 20 course meal of Thomas Keller.  :)

I wanted to get his tell-all book "Kitchen Confidential" but the book is freaking expensive.

David Fincher has plans of making the book into a movie.

I hate jamie Oliver and Nigella Bites (that's the name of the show. forgot her last name).. stupid camera moves around too much. nakaka hilo. they do know how to cook though.

Iron chef's a classic, ofcouse...

Iron Chef Japanese masaharu Morimoto (yung chef ni Robert DeNiro rati) . and yung original (forgot the name).. both kicks ass..
Chinese Chen Kenichi and French Hiroyuki Sakai. Yung Italian's Masahiko Kobe not too bad rin.

Bobby Flay... and Iron Chef Japanese was 1 win a piece against each other.

Martin Yan's not bad rin. picked up plenty of Chinese cooking tricks off him.
"If Yan can cook, so can you! Tsai Chien!"

tapos sa Food Network Canada... there's

i dont know anything about cooking but i enjoy watching cooking shows immensely. i grew up watching Cooking it up with Nora and Wok with Yan. Now i enjoy watching random shows on the Lifestyle Network particularly East meets west and 30 mins meals. i sometimes watch (grease) cooking shows aired on chinese cable channels.  ;D
More than this, there is nothing

i remember during my high school says, there was this one chinese lady who does "quick" cooking shows on (beautiful) sundays at channel 9. (ya can't miss it. it has this real catchy midi-ish tune whenever it starts...)

i remember watching her in awe (clueless ast what she was saying) as she cooked these nice yummy-looking dishes in like 5 minutes flat!  ;D

my friends and i used to make fun of how she uses only ONE dishcloth per show to dry her hands, clean the countertop, dry the pan, dry the veggies, etc., etc. (not very sanitary is she?)  ;)

i think sky's chinese channel still airs her mini-cooking shows. ;D

And don't forget that she also uses that same dishcloth to wipe the plates she'll put her dishes on.

Spiff, you're the only person I know who remembers that show AND that lady's awful habit, hehe.   ;D

Yikes! Hopefully not. But knowing how sloppy some chinese restaurants are, I wouldn't be surprised. I remember my fil-chi friend's story about this chinese restaurant she wants to be bring me to in Carriedo. She said the food is out-of-this-world delicious -- just ignore the servers who would carry your dishes to the table with their thumb dipped into the food.

By the way, a friend of mine saw an episode of Nigella Lawson's cooking show. According to him the show's production values are quite high. He even mentioned that the frame rate they used was akin to using film.

cool! at 24 frames per second (film rate)... i actually noticed that too when i saw a short clip of her show while she guested on oprah. it's like watching a documentary because she sometimes explains the recipes via voice-over. and she does it all in her REAL kitchen (kaya sometimes her kids would suddenly pop in)  ;)

unfortunaltely di ko pa rin matiyempuhan yung show nya. (wala na kasing GUIDE.... aaaargh!  :-[) one day... maabutan ko rin yan.  :P

One of the earlier cooking shows aired by the Lifestyle Network was "Entertaining at Home with Dean Fearing". Quite a dandy, that Dean. Then the old i channel had this Italian grandpa type Pasquale who came across as a the Italian equivalent of the wacky Stephen Yan.

One of my workmates had this to say about the Urban Peasant: "Ang baboy magluto!" That had me in stitches.

These days, I go for Mario Batali's "Ciao, America", Rachael Ray, Nigella Lawson (divine indeed) and Tyler Florence. I wish they'd air new episodes of "Good Eats".

I love Nigella Lawson--I don't know how to cook, but I really enjoy just watching and listening to her. It's like she makes everything about food so...er, sensual.  ;D

Several shows have already copied this style; in some USA message boards, among the shows deemed as copycats of Nigella's shows include "Barefoot Contessa", "Everyday Italian", and "Mario Batali's Ciao America". Btw, I can't stand those 3 shows, biased ako kasi I love Nigella hehe...

IRON CHEF rocks!!!

Dig Chaiman Kaga's dramatic flourish and his Liberace-like wardrobe, the cool and composed Iron Chef French Hiroyuki Sakai, the harassed-looking but teddy-bear-like Iron Chef Chinese Chen Kenichi, and the incredibly astig Iron Chef Japanese Rokusaburo Michiba (even the way his name is pronounced, astig din). Haven't seen Iron Chef Italian Kobe in action yet. And the commentary is hilarious especially when the actress gal Mayumo Takata (did I get that right?) is in the panel.

Kylie Kwong's cooking show in Discovery Travel and Leisure is my new fave. Kwong's asian fusion cuisine is scrumptious -- and easy to make too because most ingredients can actually be sourced locally.

Starting January one, Discovery Travel and Leisure will morph into Discovery Travel and Living -- this means more cooking shows!! They've already shown a sneak peek on Nigella's show.  :)

been watching jamie oliver on one of the chinese channels on cable (whenever matiyempuhan ko sya) ... it so funny because the show is so old (pre-"faux"hawk!!), he looked like some pimply-faced kid.  ;D

when i first caught it... i thought it was some spooky reality show (i didn't recognize him at first... he looked so young!) because he was chatting with the lady producer (who was off cam) and he was talking about his pregnant sister and other stuff while he was preparing the dish (custard, i think...).  ;)

The Lifestyle Network recently aired the Christmas edition of Nigella Bites, titled Nigella's Christmas Bites. It was great--one hour of pure Nigella goodness. It was nice to see her summery kitchen get some kind of holiday flavor--bright red mixers, blenders, and some Christmas tree cookie cutters hanging on hooks.  8)
