ABC has opted not to pick up the remaining 9 episodes of Private Practice, effectively cancelling the show. Earlier this year, lead star Kate Walsh announced her departure from the show even though the series had been renewed for a sixth season.

Episode 13 will be the final episode of the series, set to air by January 2013.

Well, good. This season started off really slow and boring.

666 Park Avenue and Last Resort both get the axe. Nashville survives... for now.

HBO Turns Off ‘Enlightened’

HBO has elected not to renew Laura Dern starrer Enlightened for a third season.

The series, which Dern co-created with co-star Mike White, enjoyed critical raves in its recently completed second season (with all eight episodes written by White) but struggled with viewership, even by HBO standards.

This year’s Enlightened season premiere drew 300,000 viewers on its initial airing and 220,000 for its March 3 finale, dropping 67% from the 673,000 viewers its Girls lead-in captured. The Enlightened finale had 500,000 viewers for the night across three airings.

“It was a very difficult decision,” HBO said in a statement. “We’ve decided not to continue ‘Enlightened’ for a third season.  We’re proud of the show, and we look forward to working with Mike White and Laura Dern in the future.”

Dern won the Golden Globe for TV comedy actress in 2012, after the show’s first season. The cast also featured Luke Wilson, Diane Ladd, Sarah Burns and Timm Sharp. Scott Stephens exec produced with Dern and White, who continues to have an overall deal with HBO.

As the 2012-2013 season heads towards its end, the major networks have started to clean house to make way for new shows in the fall.

ABC has cancelled Body of Proof and the new drama series Red Widow, plus a bunch of sitcoms including Happy Endings, How To Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life), Malibu Country, and the recently premiered Family Tools.

CBS cancelled long-running series CSI:NY and Rules of Engagement, plus new series Vegas and Golden Boy.

NBC cancelled the overhyped Smash, along with Deception and some sitcoms: 1600 Penn, Guys With Kids, Up All Night, and Whitney

NBC has cancelled Go On and The New Normal. ABC has cancelled Happy Endings and Body of Proof. CBS has cancelled CSI: NY, Vegas and Golden Boy. And TNT has cancelled Southland as well.

NBC has Parks and Community left on their comedy lineup with all these cancellations and the ending of 30 Rock and The Office.

Let's just use this thread for TV series cancellations.

Which one is gonna be first this season?  Rumour has it that Betrayal is already on the chopping block.

My guess is Lucky 7, since it's ABC's lowest rated drama premiere of all time.

Sayang, because I kind of like the show. I guess having the Steven Spielberg name attached to a project is no longer the draw that it used to be.

Comedies are usually the first to die: ABC's Back in the Game, CBS' Mom, Fox's Dads (what is it with parents?) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine all look like they won't survive.

I think Brooklyn Nine-Nine might be safe, with its positive critical buzz and relative (to Fox's other Tuesday night comedies) ratings. After all, it is up against The Voice, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and NCIS. And it's pretty funny - unlike Dads and Mom, which really do suck balls. Dads might be my biggest disappointment of the season, seeing how much I enjoy Seth MacFarlane's other projects.
