‘The Society’ & ‘I Am Not Okay With This’ Canceled By Netflix Due To COVID-Related Circumstances

Netflix has reversed its Season 2 renewal decision for The Society. The YA drama, whose production was impacted by COVID-19, has been canceled and won’t film a second season. Additionally, Netflix has opted not to proceed with a second season of another coming-of-age series, I Am Not Okay With This.

According to sources, uncertainty around production dates and balancing the availabilities of a large cast like The Society, coupled with unexpected budget increases due to COVID led to the decisions on The Society and I Am Not Okay With This, which had been both well received by critics and fans and had strong support at Netflix.

‘Altered Carbon’ Canceled By Netflix After 2 Seasons

Netflix has opted not to order a third season of the mind-bending, body-swapping sci-fi series Altered Carbon.

The eight-episode Season 2 of the cyberpunk drama, which starred Anthony Mackie, was released on Feb. 27, followed by an anime movie on March 19.

I hear Netflix’s decision not to proceed with further seasons was made in April and is not COVID-related but stems from the streamer’s standard viewership vs. cost renewal review process.

Stumptown Cancelled at ABC

After Stumptown secured a second season renewal last May, Deadline brings word that ABC has decided to reverse their decision by officially cancelling the Cobie Smulders-led action drama after one season. According to the outlet’s sources, the decision was made due to scheduling conflicts related to the production start which were caused by the ongoing pandemic. Stumptown’s studio ABC Signature is reportedly planning to shop the series to other networks or streamers.

Netflix Cancels Emmy-Winning The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

The day after the acclaimed series brought home the Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Program, Netflix has chosen not to renew the prequel series to Jim Henson’s cult classic film The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

“We can confirm that there will not be an additional season of  The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. We know fans are eager to learn how this chapter of The Dark Crystal saga concludes and we’ll look for ways to tell that story in the future,” Jim Henson Company CEO and executive producer Lisa Henson said in a statement. “Our company has a legacy of creating rich and complex worlds that require technical innovation, artistic excellence, and masterful storytelling. Our history also includes productions that are enduring, often finding and growing their audience over time and proving again and again that fantasy and science fiction genres reflect eternal messages and truths that are always relevant. We are so grateful to Netflix for trusting us to realize this ambitious series; we are deeply proud of our work on Age of Resistance, and the acclaim it has received from fans, critics and our peers, most recently receiving an Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Program.”

“We are grateful to the master artists at the Jim Henson Company for bringing The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance to life for fans around the world,” Netflix said in a statement. “We’re thankful to the executive producers Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford, and Louis Leterrier, who also directed all episodes, as well as the writers, cast and crew for their outstanding work and thrilled they were recognized with the Emmy this weekend.”

The series starred Gabrielle Union as Syd Burnett, a police detective with a complicated past who relocates to Los Angeles from Miami and finds an odd-couple partner in Nancy McKenna, played by Jessica Alba.
