Really annoyed by its screening schedule. Two early afternoon screenings only. I hope I can find time to see it with that schedule.

Three of Vilma Santos's films were restored and remastered recently: "Anak", "Bata, Bata Paano Ka Ginawa?" and “Kapag Langit ang Humatol”. I hope they will get to restore the truly classic ones like "Aguila", "Kisapmata", "Tag-Ulan sa Tag-Araw", "Batch '81", "Kakabakaba Ka Ba?", "Bona" and release them on DVD (at least).

Was able to catch recently the screenings for Lamasan's "Sana Maulit Muli" and Diaz-Abaya's "Karnal".

Beautiful restorations on both.

I think they are planning to release the Lamasan film before the year ends, as well as Zialcita's "T-Bird at Ako".

As of to date, I believe they have only released 3 of their restorations on home video, i.e., Himala, Oro Plata Mata, and Ganito Kami Noon... Paano Kayo Ngayon. They also released Celso Ad Castillo's "Virgin People" and Cathy Garcia-Molina's "One More Chance" on iTunes HD.

There are four, they also released Virgin People on DVD a few months ago, but someone from these forums said some parts were edited out. :(

Watched "Salawahan" last night on Cinema One(Skycable). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0474912/
Anyone with a copy of this movie?
It was great to see Manila, Baguio, and Antipolo before they became over populated.

In the US, they have a "National Film Registry" administered by the Library of Congress through its National Film Preservation Board. It is described as "a list of films deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" that are earmarked for preservation by the Library of Congress. These films are not selected as the 'best' American films of all time, but rather as works of enduring importance to American culture. They reflect who we are as a people and as a nation." The public nominate titles (which should've rbeen released at least 10 years ago) for inclusion into the list each year, and the Libraian of Congress names 25 films as inductees. The first registry was named in 1990.

http://www.loc.gov/programs/national-film-preservation-board

It will be a great idea to adopt a similar project for our own films. As for me, the following titles comes to mind (I've limited my choices to the ones I've seen, and those which were at least 20 years old):
Anak Dalita
Badjao
Biyaya Ng Lupa
Sisa
Confradia
Noli Me Tangere
Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara
Ibulong Mo Sa Hangin
Ang Pinakamagandang Hayop Sa Balat Ng Lupa
Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang
Maynila Sa Mga Kuko Ng Liwanag
Banaue
Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos
Pagputi ng Uwak, Pag-itim ng Tagak
Itim
Insiang
Ganito Sila Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?
Burlesk Queen
Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising
Ina Ka Ng Anak Mo
Nunal Sa Tubig
Ang Panday
City After Dark
Aguila
Kisapmata
Temptation Island
Salome
Katorse
PS I Love You
Gaano Kadalas Ang Minsan?
Himala
Oro Plata Mata
Moral
Soltero
Karnal
Bagets
Working Girls
Saan Darating Ang Umaga?
Shake, Rattle, & Roll
Sister Stella L
Scorpio Nights
Private Show
Takaw Tukso
Itanong Mo Sa Buwan
Tiyanak
Pahiram ng Isang Umaga
Bilangin Ang Bituin Sa Langit
Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak
Kahit Konting Pagtingin
Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit
Jose Rizal
Sana Maulit Muli

BTW, the new iTunes release of Himala is worth the upgrade from the DVD.  The image quality has noticeably  improved but on top of that, they've now fixed the edges . Gone are those black tears that appear on and off on the edges of the screen.  The color temperature near the end (sand dunes sequences) has changed as well .  It's a lot warmer than the orginal DVD release and has a slight sepia tone to it.

This is the next best thing to a bluray release.

Keep the DVD for the special features.

Other than ABS CBN, is there any other outfit that attempts to restore old Filipino movie classics?

The only other one I know is the Martin Scorsese Film Foundation which helps restore classic films from all over the world. They helped restore Maynila sa Kuko Ng Liwanag and Insiang (both are available on the Criterion Collection). I don't know if they're working on any others. I think they might be working to restore Manuel Conde's Genghis Khan, the version without the James Agee narration.

^  I'll be ordering Manila in the Claws of Light Blu-ray through TOY 01. The price is still a bit on the high side though, so I might wait for it to lower down. Anyway, here are reviews of the Criterion Blu-ray:
