Hi Jim. Patanong.

One of my relatives is interested in the Egreat but does not need Full 3D (raw). Should I still recommend to him the R6S 1186 or mas OK ang 1185 equivalent (for 2D of course) or pareho lang? Gusto nya raw magtipid first and foremost but have a reliable NMT that can play usual MKVs in 720p and 1080p, and if possible ay Full BD (2D) Folders/ISO. 3D lang ang hindi nya (daw) type.

in terms of PQ dapat ba parehas lang ang Realtek 1186 & Sigma based NMT. tried connecting the R300 kasi yesterday sa PJ ko and noticed mas ok yung Sigma PQ. Di kaya sa isip ko lang ito?

Matulin kasi yung 1186 na chip over 1185, kaya I'd go for R6S.

The R6S has USB 3.0 host port naman so swak sa newer portable disks, assures na disk throughput is there if needed sa big chunk playback. Also, been working with naked boards, I find the R6S cooler over R6A-ii (they share the same enclosure look, meron lang VFD display si R6S) assuming powered up at the same time and played over the same period.

I often find myself on the road with lodging pag ginabi, laging si R6S ang road companion ko.

I find the 1185 noticeably slow response when navigating the UI pero playback is flawless (favorite ni anya ang 1185 pang marathon sa shop nya

The 1185 (R6A-ii, R160, R180) though has nice coverart(navigate by thumbnail, select brings you to sysnopsis)/posterart mode (navigate by poster) which i miss in the 1186 kaya i requested sa egreat to get that in.

Hands down, ok talaga Sigma over Realtek, even my kids can tell . Pero the RTK1186 are a big improvement over the RTK1185. If i have to rank them all na ginagamit ko:

top Sigma 8643
close second. RTK1186
far third. RTK1185
fifth RTK1073/RTK1055

Sadly, wala na Sigma 8643 si Egreat, kaya meron akong ilang stash na S100 and i modified it to have a fan to such the hot air out of the enclosure (passive cooling kasi sya).

I assume same design/engineering nila kaya I can only rank the above for Egreat, I will not speak but seems yung builds ng ibang brands matter kahit same RTK chip. Best you do switching between NMTs on the same display but different HDMI port, so its easier for you to compare.

I just got a remux MKV Total Recall movie and tried playing it with my Oppo Bluray player... It seems that the audio is not being detected by the Oppo because my Pioneer is just outputting static noises during playback...

I thought the file was again bugged by the audio drop outs of the said movie.....

Then I tried playing it with my Egreat R300pro...

Isa lang masasabi ko.

Buti na lang at may Egreat R300pro ako at napanood ko din ang buo itong Total Recall

Kahit na kontrabida ka Kate Beckinsale... Love pa din kita

Pansin ko din the PQ of the 1186 Egreat is sharper than the 1185s, closing near 90% of the Sigma 8643 counterparts.

what is the HDMI out setting of your R6S or R300?

mine is set to Auto, but when i view the input info on the onkyo 818 receiver, the resolution is always 1080p even a 720p mkv movie is playing. i want the the R6S to natively output the movie and let the upscaling done by the onkyo amp. i prefer that the upscaling be done by the QDeo chip of the onkyo 818.

Question sa R6S. Mahina yung audio ng led tv pag sa movies. So inisip ko kung pwede bang ikabit yung L/R audio rca ng R6S sa external na multimedia na speaker like creative? sira kasi avr ko. thnks

Pwede.. Basta may internal amp yung speakers mo. Set mo din yung audio out ng r6s to rca output(im not sure kung eto yung option na yun)

Sa video and audio settings choose mo lang sa output is "AUTO"
and turn off all the video processing of R6s...

i find the HDMI Auto setting output is default to 1080p when i checked the info from the receiver. i played a 720p movie and the input video was read ast 1080p (60 hz) by the receiver. do you know any work around for the egreat to natively output the movie file? i want all the video processing done by the receiver to take the advantage of its onboard video chip.

when i set all in raw nawala ang auido for mpeg, acc (yata)...basta parang yung dts and HD something lang na decode...

btw, i am, using a pioneer vsx 920. should i set the my receiver also? what should i set it to?

Try setting the audio in the R6s to raw and your receiver to direct bro...

Check ko din ulit mamaya yung audio options in my R300pro

I think both will have very close PQ as they have the same Realtek 1186 chip.
Advantage of the 1000X3D is the internal HDD slot.
But the R6s is a lot cheaper and has a very small form factor.

I think the Egreat R300pro is level matched for the 1000X3D
