check the speaker sensitivity/impedence/power(RMS)
then match it with the amp(watts/ch @ 2 ch driven)

paano ba matching po sa spkr sens/imps/rms to a AVR amp wtts?

A/V addict din po pero newbie sa ganitong pairing.tnx po mga masters sa reply in advance

my contribution, based on personal experience of equipment that i own/owned, not expert review -

Onkyo 603 + Dali Concept 6 (good pairing, but i find the sound too sharp)
Denon 1909 + Dali Concept 6 (much better than with Onkyo, especially after Audyssey setup)
Denon 1909 + A-Audio Genesis FS (best combination for me, the Genesis are much easier to listen to even at higher volumes, great mids and bass extension)
Marantz NR1200, MartinLogan Motion 20 digital audio setup, and Sony A80J

what if denon-wharfedale?
nightmare ;D
unless magaling ka mag tweak, tulad ng mga masters dito  :)

sorry for replying to a very old post, just had to comment ..

btw my share:
denon 1509 + polk audio = neutral to bright

onkyo 508 + polk audio = very bright *bit harsh IMO* bad for everything (but joelsoldao found it to be OK)

denon 1509 + a-audio genesis = warm to dark .. good for HT *can go really low for a bookshelf, quite impressive* but really bad imaging in music

z5500 + a-audio genesis = neutral to warm, except at higher volumes, it is already muddy at times. (weak amp probably and genesis was harder to drive than the tangband satellites of z5500)

onkyo 508 +  a-audio genesis = still bright but not as harsh as the 509+polk

denon 1509 + svs scs = neutral to little bit warm, just right for me

denon 1912 + svs scs = neutral just right *EVEN at higher volume but with better room correction

denon 1912 + svs sts = neutral sts is easier to drive so @ reference volume level it is still better than all my older combinations

denon 1912 + svs mts = surprisingly neutral to warm, but you can feel that the MTS is underpowered.  can only play @ -15db *im too scared to play @ higher volume level*

onkyo 807 + svs mts = neutral (*neutral to warm according to ivan),
OK na ako sa receiver but if the room was a bit bigger, baka kulangin pa ;D  i was gonna get a power amp but a master suggested that i wont maximize it *kailangan yata mas mahal na power amp :D *.

IMO the best combination i had was the S Series SVS and the denon 1912.
DEFINITELY i wont change my speakers, and at the moment onkyo and my m series seems to be OK (but with added power im sure this system will be better than the S series and 1912).
I am still thinking about getting a marantz receiver or a power amp.  (eto mga what ifs ko)  :D

Share ko lang based from the receivers and speakers I have used.
*Based din sa aking noob na pandinig...

-Onkyo 508 + Polk Tsi = Bright/forward, good for HT
-Onkyo 805 + Polk Rti = Slight bright/forward, very good for HT / good for music and concerts
-Yamaha RX-3900 + Polk Rti = Bright/forward, very good for HT / quite tiring for music/concerts
-Onkyo 805 + Paradigm Studio = Neutral to bright, very good details for HT
-Denon 4311 + JBL LS series = Neutral and quite trebly, very good for HT and music/concerts
-Denon 4311 + Rti = Neutral to bright, very good for HT / very good for music/concerts but somewhat lacking in highs
-Denon 4311 + Goldenear = Balanced and smooth... Very good for HT and music. Passable 2-channel audio performance
-Onkyo 5009 + Goldenear = For me this is the best combination I had for HT. Details are top notch, vocals/dialogs are superb. Concerts blurays are also very very good. Onkyo brought out the best in Goldenear's ribbon tweeters.

Mamaya try ko magdagdag for audio only set up.

Sir,

Have you tried onkyo 616 to be paired with polk audio's RTi's? what specific model of the RTi?

Thanks

Personal opinion only.
I tried an Onkyo 808 with the RTI and LSI_7 and in both matching the sound quality a dull on HT.
Lacks dynamism, Ngo-ngo best describes it.

Best I have paired the Polks is with a Marantz/Denon. Yamaha comes in 2nd.
After many test it seems the Yamaha matches particularly well with most speaker brands as the sound quality is neutral

I was able to use Onkyo 508 and Onkyo 805 with my Rti A3's and Csi A4.
For me they give a neutral to bright sound with more emphasis on the higher frequency.
The combo is very good for HT but you might find it quite fatiguing for pure audio especially when listening with them for extended hours...

Harman Kardon AVR240 + Wharfedale9.6
- Warm and Laid-back, good vocals and non fatiguing. Good for both Music and Movies
(adjust treble to +4.0dB/6bB and will sound neutral.)

Yamaha Aventage A810 + Wharfedale9.6
- Slight warm to neutral, still non fatiguing. Good for both Music and Movies
(adjust treble to +3.5dB/6dB and will be neutral to slight bright.)

My setup is Yamaha RX-V667 + Wharfedale Diamond 9.1/9CS/9SR/Polk Audio PSW110. = Sings well even on Pure Direct mode.  Warm but slightly bright.  I tried to connect my Onkyo TX-NR609 but the sound is a little bit more laid back.  More powerful in spec but I guess the Onkyo/Diamond combination is not that good.

Hi Sirs- Noob here- What amp can you refer with wharfedale 10.1, 10 CM and 10SR budget set up? or would i be better off with a nad316/326 budget as 70% of the time it would be used for music

Thanks!

Since you already bought speakers for a surround setup, why would you buy a stereo amp? Such purchase would just make you prone to buying another amplifier in the near future which is counterproductive to your intent for budget control. My take would be to buy an AVR which can drive those wharfs or, better yet, an AVR with preouts so that you can integrate a power amp later.

Thanks buddy for the response- sorry for the confusion, but for now what i have is the wharfe 10.1 and the dayton dta100a amp- will buying another stereo amp like the nad316 + cdp be a big improvement over the dayton? Or would i be better off with an avr + wdtv (flac, wav files) for my current music set up with potential to do 5.1 set up in the future?Primary purpose is for music :) also have no idea if the 5.1 set up would be good for music. Primary concern is sound quality. Thanks

It seems you are geared towards music/audio. I suggest get a beefy integrated amp to drive those wharfs.
Consider also Rotel and Marantz ;)
For me better talaga 2-channel for audio. Mas ok ang 5.1 for movies...

Sir, a quick and sure answer to your musings would be to visit the shops of our resident sellers and request for an audition of the combi that you're considering i.e wharfe 10.1 +  nad316. I believe they are very accomodating.
