3TB disk (GPT) became uninitialized
« on: Nov 28, 2012 at 03:11 AM »
Was shuffling between an NMT of a friend to the laptop when suddenly it showed the disk as uninitialized, (I was sure it was functioning as a 3TB NTFS partition , mapped to a disk and partitioned via GPT).

For now, i stopped to try look for ways to recover the data contained in the drive. anyone encountered this and have successfully recovered?

@mods,
 please feel free to move to appropriate thread thanks

on the Windows Control Panel, can you see the partition? ... can you select the option "Mark Partition as Active"? ... choosing that option may resolve the issue without losing data if that option is available (not grayed out)
Marantz NR1200, MartinLogan Motion 20 digital audio setup, and Sony A80J

Did you mean Disk administrator? i can see the whole partition but it says unallocated.

I tried partition guru and it can see the partition ok, but has a $69.99 price tag
I am trying EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition, and can see the partition ok for recover, but requires that i use it strictly for home use, I'm at home, I am using it, so HOME USE eh ? Let's hope it works

try to use it via another HD dock... i've encountered something like this before with a 2TB and when I switched to another dock it works.

when i tried other HD of the same size or even 3TB works in the original dock that gave the problem

Finally figured out what's wrong:

the disk was unplugged from the bay while in operation. with that indeterminate state, the disk became uninitialized.

I was able to recover it with a trial tool
