^ Chen Kaige's ravishing Farewell My Concubine in 4K is a big "yes" for me. I hope Criterion also gets hold of fellow 5th Generation Director Zhang Yimou's earlier films in 4K, particularly Raise the Red Lantern, his other collaborations with actress Gong Li and Hero.

Janus Films: First Look at New 4K Restoration of Seven Samurai

Janus Films has provided an official domestic trailer for the recent 4K restoration of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai (1954), starring Toshirô Mifune, Takashi Shimura, Keiko Tsushima, Yukiko Shimazaki, and Kamatari Fujiwara. The restoration will premiere in select theaters across the nation on July 5.

A 4K Blu-ray release is expected to be officially announced later this year.
