Does a Media Player offer any advantage over a laptop ?

i trust your question pertains to movie watching.

It is easier to watch movies in big display than in a smaller laptop screen, sure you can connect it to the TV, but imagine doing that daily as oppose to picking up the NMT remote.

NMT can do 3TB internally, a laptop cant.

for the price of tineir NMT now, you can spare your laptop from decreased battery life sooner than if it was used for your daily work grind.

I see, so more of convenience, How about this setup,

TV - Media Player - DAC to Audio System
TV using Its internal Player - DAC  - Audio system

any advantage  using the media player in this scenario ?

You can also remove the battery of your laptop for a daily use just plug the battery sometime to use and drain.

I think the laptop has a advantage here since there are software like foobar to use like derick is using now.

Unless the TV has a digital audio out that's ok in quality, I'd go for a media player - DAC.

To be more specific, if you have an Apple iphone/ipad/itouch/macbook, buy an apple TV as your media player so you can stream from your i-device app displays, movies and music. ..

Generally wider format support versus built-in players of most TVs.

The only advantage I only see that the NMT has over the laptop is the price and convenience that can be easily learn even if you are a non techy guy but the rest is all laptop
Laptop
1.You can carry around you anywhere because it has a built in screen
2.You can create a music playlist fast by as simple as clicking a mouse
3.You can play all your movie format(on NMT no matter how high end it is,Its still selective on movie format)
4.Its not just for movies and music but basically can do all a pc can do like internet browsing, for your everyday work like ms word, photo editing etc....Countless possibilities

+1 on this. Plus the load time of booting up a PC and it's maintenance. NMT are cheap na rin naman.

Dati NMT user ako but now I'm using HTPC. Malayo ang difference ng PQ and SQ based on my experience. Ang advantage ng NMT for me is their ease of use.

I have a Laptop which is capable of playing any movie i put into it... But i still use my NMT for movie viewing.. Why? because of ease of use... Simply turn it on and enjoy..

Go lang, Master Jamy. Alam ko di mo na mapigilan ang sarili mo at lampas na sa gilid ng passbook ang laman ng account mo. ;D

Notebook din ako for flexibility, though Media Player mas madali for some people.

Both have their pro's and cons. Laptop for me is for the versatility, PQ, SQ but there will be times when you will need to use it while watching a movie. (important emails etc.) i'm sure the wife would not like if that happens every now and then. and there would be clutter either it's near your tv or av equipment or there's a long HDMI cable around it. while NMT's can fit in your rack. If the TS is still thinking of getting either I would go for a dedicated HTPC which is totally OT. but you can get a decently specd Trinity for 10k without HDD.
That awkward moment when I'm drunk and you're still ugly.

I prefer the V5-551G because of the slimline form factor, numeric keypad, ULV processor, USB 3.0, more RAM, faster GPU and more modern specs overall (BT 4.0, Windows 8, HD Webcam, etc.). I suggest trying the actual unit though, as the keyboard/trackpad feel may or may not work for you.
