25k Budget For 2.0 Set-Up
« on: Jan 13, 2013 at 12:22 AM »
Hello Sirs,

Patulong naman, nagsasawa na ko sa tunog ng HTIB and I'm planning to build my first set-up.
I have a budget of 25k and I have no idea kung pano ko sisimulan ang set-up ko. 50/50 sana for movie and audio. Kahit 2.0 set up muna and then dagdag na lang ng speakers later.

Plano ko sana ay Pioneer vsx 521 since this unit costs 10k only and then buy floorstanding Wharfedale speakers. But then, I read somewhere in the forum na it's better to get a pair of good bookshelf and a sub kesa mag floorstanders.

Any suggestions guys?

Thanks!

Since you have an HTIB, I would suggest

1. Get a  good subwoofer first and add it to your HTIB, instant bass heaven ka na agad. I would blow my 25K on the sub alone hehehe  you wont regret it...
2. Then get the receiver, you can use the HTIB speakers as long as you set the speakers to small
3. Then add the fronts, center and rears when funds allow

as for the Bookshelf vs floorstanders, depende sa bookshelf and floorstanders,  but pound for pound the bigger speaker will always deliver better sound, otherwise everyone would be using HTIBS  >:D

I don't get it sir. Paano ko i-aadd yung subwoofer sa HTIB? or if ever can i just use my existing Pioneer HTIB satelite speakers sa Pioneer vsx 521 receiver? My current HTIB Pioneer speaker satelites are rated at 60 watts 4ohms?

TIA

What you do is you can connect the NEW subwoofer via the same speaker wire that feeds the small subwoofer.  The new subwoofer should have speaker level inputs. Dont worry about the power as the new subwoofer would have its own amplifier. its just going to get the signal from the HTIB

if you buy the pioneer first and connect the HTIB speakers, tunog HTIB ka pa rin. By adding a good subwoofer first, you make a  big  HUGE leap in the bass department

Yes, you can use your HTIB satellites sa Pioneer amp, dahan dahan lang sa volume as the Pioneer speakers can only take so much power

Suggestion:

1. Get the Pioneer
2. Get Aaudio Genesis BS
3. Get Omni S8 sub (if still available)

Sobra pa budget mo, use them for wires and accessories. ;D

Thank you sir for your input. How much po ba yung A-Audio Genesis FS? Parang mas ok nga kung floorstanders na lang para di ko na kailangang bumili ng speaker stand.

This Pioneer vsx 521 seems like an excellent unit for starters.  What impresses me is the presence of pre-outs, allowing you to upgrade to beefier and more competent power amps in the future.  For the price, I would consider it more as a preamp-processor.  Elegant facia design besides.  I might even get one to replace my 12-year old Rotel pre-pro.  ;D

Pioneer - according to you is 10K
Genesis BS -around 8K or less, sale ata hehe
Omni s8 is around 5K ;D

So that would be 10+8+5 = 23K

I wonder what your HTIB model is and its model year.

It would help if we know what you find nakasawa with it or what you are looking for in a 25T system.

I ask because some entry level receivers use the same electronics as can be found in a HTIB.   You might just be going in circles with a differently packaged system.

Thanks

Genesis(vinyl) FS - 16,128

here's the thread - http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,163442.0/topicseen.html

i suggest you visit Anthony Audio's showroom to test and compare the different speakers ... i agree with your observation that if you get the BS, you still need to buy stands which is not cheap relative to your overall budget ... and later on you'll be looking for an upgrade - bibili ka rin ng FS ... plus with the FS, you can delay buying the subwoofer, until budget permits for a better quality sub

Like what Raptor said, it may sound no different.  You're using the same speakers.  Much of the quality of the sound is shaped by your speakers, unless there's really something substantially wrong with the old amps.

Since your eventually going to buy a subwoofer, I would suggest getting this first as this would work with your HTIB. Theres a couple of subs in the buy and sell section under 20K. I think mayroon i JBL and paradigm in the 12K to 15K. This would be a HUGE inprovement on what you have  and will be usable once you get a proper receiver and speakers.

kaya nga ayaw ko pa mag-suggest ng receiver e. but if he insists on getting an entry level receiver before getting a sub there's nothing more we can do.

Speaking of upgrades from an HTIB, I remember my free HTIB Samsung 4 years ago. One look at the speakers and I know that it's the liming factor due to the lack of a tweeter and a woofer that's downright puny. Manual says that the "box" can put out 20watts clean per channel or so it says. Since I have a spare bookshelf that's easy to drive at 8 ohm 92db sens I hooked it up to the HTIB and added a subwoofer via w/ high level speaker inputs (since the sub of the HTIB is passive...it's driven by the "box")...well the sound is like 1000% better and louder hehe. enjoyed that system till my daughter inherited that combo. It's still rocking in her room. As a bonus Nabenta ko pa yung stock HTIB speakers and passive sub dito sa PDVD for 1.5K.

Haha.. I still could remember myself on this kind of situation but the only difference is I really have nothing, I was supposed to buy htib first but I ended up buying subs then got floorstanding speakers. I am still on the process but due to priority as family comes first, I haven't bought a receiver but happy with my setup 2.1 using an amplifier.

Anyhow, our pdvd members are here to help you decide what's good for you but it will be just only you and the unit that will decide as this kind of hobby is really never ending.. haha at bka mahawa kn rin at ma-addict.

So, in short, audition first and try out every units out there so that you will never regret what you have bought. Happy hunting! :)

Since you're on a limited budget, or so it seems. I'd still recommend 2.1 with the BS. ;D

Other choices you need to double your budget... hehe

Plus, having a FS will not necessarily improve your sound experience, unless you acquire an amp that is powerful enough to drive them to the fullest. Just my 2 cents. ;)

First of all, let me thank you guys for your generous and sensible advices.
Laking tulong para sa tulad kong ignorant :-[ and nagsisimula pa lang sa ganitong hobby.

So if I were to adjust my budget a bit. How much should I prefer for a good mid-level receiver?
Anong ok na receiver for 15-20k? and then for the speakers.. I'll just audition na lang when I have the receiver with me already.

Thanks again.
