A friend told me he has a software that rips DVD into a smaller format, he said the results is a 1080p MP4 file with size  under 2 gig ?  Is he loosing something with this format ?

definitely quality will suffer and with 2gig finish product even with small panel you see artifacts.maybe your friend intend to watch only with handhelds

We tested it on a 46 and image quality was very nice.

May mga torrent din na 1080p under 2Gb na okay sa big screen TVs but will be pixelated sa dark scenes. Question is anong audio nya? Malamang hindi DTS 5.1 yan lower bit rate na AC3 or AAC perhaps at baka 2 channel MP3 pa. Nasa preference din naman kasi kung ok ka na sa ganung quality, mas okay dahil tipid ka sa HDD space.

from DVD9 to 2gb for sure stereo output nalang yan.  and yes PQ also is degraded.
