They're selling the Q3 pala, they said the Q5 is an old model that's no longer around. The Q3 has the same specs as the older Q5 but with a few updates and features daw.

I chose not to buy it since I saw the Xiaomi 4k media player, which looked more upscale. Too bad it doesn't have English firmware yet.

Q3 is the older model of the Q5.
1) No SATA support
2) No COAX Audio Out.

Got a Hi-Media H8 Octa from Amazon last Oct...
After updating to Nov. 2015 firmware I can confirm that it could bitstream HD Audio 7.1 including Dolby Atmos...
Picture quality is also very good, almost at par with Q10.
User Interface is smooth running on Android 5.1.1

Has anyone tried streaming movies wirelessly from your nas or pc to this media player? How was it? Any degradation on audio or video quality?

@gutierrez, I am using the JojoD PSU( 12V 5AMP) I purchased from you connected to my HiMedia Q10.
I can say 25-30% improvement in Audio and Video output.

For fellow HiMedia owners like me, an investment in a PSU is very much recommended.
I am thinking for ordering a 2nd PSU for the bedroom set-up.

Wow really, 25% is a big improvement, honestly i didnt get a chance to use that thoroughly on my previous dac.  Can you elaborate the inprovements you've noticed on both audio and video?

^ on audio playing WAV files the bass is more evident and the separation better.
On Movies the image has less grain and the color more vivid.
I was also very surprised with the result.
I switched the stock wallwart with the JojoD PSU three times just to check, and indeed it is the PSU that is producing the good results.

One thing I learned is that if you check the stock PSU with a tester, the Voltage fluctuates from 12 to 12.5V.
On the JojoD PSU the voltage is firm at 12V.

Will the Q8 be better at playing larger files > 10 gig vs the Q1 ?

This is the difference between both models:

HiMedia Q1 – Quadcore, 1 gig of RAM, 8 Gig of Flash, android 4.4 streaming set top box

HiMedia Q8 – Quadcore, 2 gig of RAM, 8 Gig of Flash, Android 4.4 streaming set top box –

Basically the Q8 has twice as much ram and has optical output, but the Q1 only has HDMI.

Both can run KODI and play high definition and 4K in 7.1 channels.

After a couple of days on the H8, I have it working to how I really wanted it to function.

Here are the things I setup:
1.) Futeko 1.0.9 firmware -> this allowed me to use Kodi 15.2 with working HD Passthrough for both DTSHDMA and Dolby TrueHD (finally, after years without it on my Sigma based device)
2.) Google US account -> The only way I was able to install Hulu. Unfortunately, the apk version can be installed, but it did not allow streaming playback. It always resulted in playback error. After installing the VPN Hotspot app, I was able to access the US Play Store and use my US Google account. I was then able to download and install the US Hulu app and I have it functional. I was looking for the same Hulu Plus Android TV app but it wouldn't appear in my search. Btw, I also have Getflix setup which allows me to access Hulu library.
3.) Netflix and iFlix were installed through the default Philippine Playstore. But since I had Getflix setup in my home network, I was able to access the US Netflix database as well.

I was able to enjoy the H8 during the weekend and I really appreciate the improvement in PQ and SQ over my previous NMT. The subtitles are much better as well with this device, font-wise and lay-out wise. And lastly, I like how fast it responds to the remote. Almost no noticeable delay/lag.

I'm still unable to let go of my AppleTV3 though since I feel that Hulu and Netflix are clearer over that device. And the menus and options are easily accessible there or they are much better organized.

If any of you guys have any tips to improve how I did things hope you could share here too. Thanks and happy watching!

**Btw, I did the install with the full reset. I tried the upgrade install previously but I noticed that Kodi was not installed correctly and HD Passthrough did not function properly because of this.
