tuff, DC heating improves (lessens) hum levels. on some amps using 45, or 2A3, we don't bother with DC heating because the hum level is just 3mV-4mV (my 2A3 is 4mV). my 45 even when connected to high efficiency single driver speakers is dead silent. however, AC heating on 300Bs is a different story. my first incarnation is about 12 mV, i plan to use DC heating on my next version. there are noisy tubes, there are silent tubes.

on preamps, where we amplify millivolts, specially phono stages, DC heating is a must.

oK thanks sir. wala bang cons ang DC heating sir? why do others still prefer AC heating for their 300b amps?

tuff, ac heating is simplest, cheapest to implement. sonically, some swear ac heating is the best. but then again, it's their ears, not mine.

what you're saying then is you find DC  heating more quiet and easier to manage without sacrificing sonic quality.  :) TY sir!

tuff, no i didn't say that. what i'm saying is that DC reduces hum level significatly on some tubes, albeit more expensive (extra parts needed).

i have not made judgement sonically.

master arnoldc,

I see you now use DC for heaters, helps a lot in the hum department doesn't it?

i meant this post.  ;D I agree on the noisy tubes and the silent tubes part.  :D

as always, there is the "audiophile" debate between AC or DC heating... thankfully I'm past that portion already, time to learn other things about tubes though.  ;D

If you like a quite 300B SE amp converiting the filament heaters to DC voltage but definetely there would
be a change in sound character. It depends on your taste this is basically subjective but for me i would  go for the purist approach AC heaters there something about AC heating some my call musicality versus the sterile
sound of DC this is my opinion take it with a grain of salt. It's up to you to decide.
AC heated 300B SE amp hums but you need to be careful in implementing the grounding. my experience is basically the shortest grounding path with the input and power ground tied together.I stay away from the
bus bar type grounding and also a no feedback type of input/driver would surely help i also increase the value
hum resistor to 135 ohm.

I just got my modded 300B from Rene and it has really improved. I highly recommend it to Tono 300B owners. I even added a little to have the resistors upgraded to riken.

Quote from: detubo
tentatively this is whats going on;

Saturday:

10 am - Ribbon cutting. guest of honor maestro Eugene Castillo
2:30 pm - percussion performance by mark escueta of rivermaya, paul zialcita of spy, zach form imago
4:15 pm - waji wara (jazz band ala Cal Tjader)
6:00 pm - radioactive sago project (jazz funk and spoken word.  this years winner of MTV's most stylish video.  their witty hit song sometimes back was "baboy" about politics & corruption.  i heard their new album.  is it any good?  well, i bought the album.  may horn section to bro!

right now things are still very fluid so expects changes as we approach D-day.  i'll try to arrange special audiophile specific activities too like different super cartridges on demo for sunday (maybe a Dynavector XV-1s,  Koetsu Onyx platyinum and Clearaudio insider Reference)

pm me if you have any suggestion or you would like to volunteer for any activity.
