Help please (hum problem)
« on: Mar 21, 2013 at 11:01 AM »
Good day sa lahat. May naririnig po akong hum/noise galing sa speakers ko driven by a tube amp. Ang amp po ay naka on lang at wla pang pinapatugtog. Tried to disconnect the audio source pero nandiyan parin Volume was set to 10 o'clock. Yung description ko ng noise is not that bad considering na I only hear this when I put my ears on the front covers ng speakers. But at a distance lets say a foot, negligible na po ang noise at this volume. The noise from left speaker is a bit louder than the other one. Normal lang kaya ito?
Already checked the grounding ng power source ko pero di parin nawawala. Ang speaker wire ko walang ferrite rings which  probably might contribute to that?(sorry, newbie here). Ill Appreaciate any advise. Thanks a lot.

If you have an electrical source nearby like a Power Outlet / Transformer / AVR, primary suspect will be the wires.

@ audiojunkie: mga 2 months palang yong amp same with tubes. the problem might be from the beginning pero nagkataon lang ksi na nailapat ko ung tenga ko sa cover ng speaker at dun ko narinig.

@cooltoyz: ano pong wires ang ibig niyong sabihin?ano kaya magandang gawin dito? pag lumayo ka lang ng konte, wala ka nang maririning. very very close distance lang talaga..but still bothers me though.

may not really be a problem. could be a very low level noise inherent in the amp. matched with very sensitive speakers the noise could be really audible. but at the distance you described i wouldn't worry about it.

What is your tube amp? How old is it?  As Mark said...many tube amps have a low level hum that is inherent. If its not audible from the listening spot then I don't think it should bother you unless you listen 1 foot away from the speakers.

@synchro: its an integrated amp, around 2 months old...

thanks sa info niyong lahat, maaaring ganun nga lang yung case ng amp...di ko naman naririnig yung noise na yun pag pinatugtog ko na....

@cal: salamat din sa input, napatawag pa kayo...

Ferrite rings on the cables won't solve that hum if its coming from a source within the audio chain. Owned three tube amps through the years and yes even a brand new one can have a very slight hum. Just ignore it and enjoy the glorious sound of tubes :)

volume at 10 o'clock (no signal condn)   and negligible at 1 foot distance and can only be heard if near the speaker, i must say is negligible  :)
