My 1st HTPC. Help needed
« on: Mar 26, 2013 at 12:23 PM »
Guys, patulong naman. I am going to built my 1st HTPC.
1. Budget below 15k. Kung kaya below 12k mas ok.
2. Can play 1080p rip around 2-3gig.
3. 3d is not required.
4. Im not sure if dedicated vid card is needed. Please advise.
5. Tahimik yung unit.
6. I will use win7 and xbmc
7. I will use it purely with xbmc. No gaming.
8. Please suggest also a case. Atx ba tawag dun? Yung maliit?
9. I dont need futuristic specs.
10. Cpu only
11. Optical drive is not required.

Thanks po sa makakasagot. I am planning to buy this week.

Hmmmmm. Your budget can easily get you and an AMD A8 which has a very good video processor or even A10. you can check tipidpc for prices. But I dont think you can get an itx (yung maliit) na board at that price. you can probably get a micro atx board and i tell you those casings for HTPC are not cheap. I suggest you get the best components and get a cheap case first. you can always updgrade that. get the itx board para swak kahit anong case.

We always overlooked the PSU. If CPU is the brain, PSU is the heart of a PC...

you may try

amd a6-a8 mas mura
FM1 board - mas mura

intel i3 pwede din
but if more HTPC with graphics go with AMD

Alternate Solution (PChub prices):

Intel Core i3-3210 - 4560
Gigabyte GA-B75N - 3550
Thermaltake Element Q - 3100
Transcend 4GB DDR3-1600 - 1280
WD Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX - 2310
Total: 14800

You can add RAM and another HDD later on.

A cheap notebook is another interesting option. The Acer Aspire V5-131-10072G50 costs 15995 in Gilmore. That price includes a Windows 8 license and a whole bunch of hardware (WiFi,Speakers,Mic,Webcam,Bluetooth,Keyboard,Touchpad,UPS,Screen,Card Reader, etc). If the unit fails, no need to troubleshoot as the entire unit goes to the service center. The cool part is that you can take the unit with you as a portable player/computer when necessary.

2. About Proc, I think I will go for AMD, Malaki po ba difference ng A6, A8 & A10? In terms of graphics/video playback?
I think 120gig SSD for OS and XBMC would be enough? Then I will use a external hardisk via USB3? or mas maganda pa ren yung internal?
4. About Casing, base on the suggestion above I think I will go with mini-itx.
5. About display, I will be using my PANASONIC 42ST30 and connect it VIA HDMI.

More power!

hmm cgro po mas mgnda internal...less clutter...ssd w/ 120gb are 4k+ dun p lng ubs na budget..hdd will be better...a10 has the better graphics than the two but consumes more power...i think a6 is enough for your htpc needs...ala pa ata me nkikitang 220w psu...better go 400w or 500w...for future upgrades

kung plano mo mag-SSD, get a 60GB. enough na yun for Win 7 + XBMC and maybe a few apps. around 3+k ang 60GB SSD. +/- 5k ang 120GB SSD. ubos budget mo kung 120GB SSD ang kukunin mo. hehe! ;)

an SSD is good if may budget ka. and getting one means you need a regular hdd for your storage that doubles the the amount you spend intended for storage and almost half your budget. And remember an SSD can will only help you out during boot up in an HTPC. If you plan to turn on your pc once a day and leave it on I dont think you need one save a couple of seconds.

kung movies lang you dont need add-on vc po...
based sa pricelist ng suki ko.. yung iba gayahin ko nalang kay sir nerve block since agree naman ako idea niya.. hehe

1695php intel G550
1890php asrock h61m
 980php any 4gb branded sana kahit pqi/kingston
1100php powerlogic slimcase
3500php used 2tb hd with warranty

total:9165php

options
i3-3220 add 2985php
logitech k400 add  1620php
OCZ Vertex Plus R2 60gb sata2 add 2670php
mobo w/more features like usb3 add (depend on what you need)

i would suggest a cheap usb dvd drive para versatile.. pag may netbook/ultrabook ka or magiinstall sa htpc mo you can use it.. i have usb dvd drive and internal.. halos di ko na nagagamit.. lahat ngayon puros hard disk na naka store.. hehe sayang lang pera... nagagamit ko nalang sila pag may iinstall ako.. kahit burn dvd/cd.. wala nadin.. may cd device ka paba ngayon? hehe

agree on ssd... game changer ang ssd... mas malaki impact ng improvement ng system on an ssd kesa sa processor.. but if budgeted and... gusto both.. unahin nalang muna proc.. pwede naman kasi add ang ssd later on...
nilagay ko cheapest ssd as option... an old vertex plus.. kasi mura.. i have the same ssd on my htpc now.... mabilis din yan... 15seconds boot on a newly installed win7...
pag may budget... i would suggest... sandisk extreme 120gb 4800php sa gilmore...

just browsing/watching movie/facebook... celeron/i3/i5 wont matter much po..
once you go ssd.. hard to go back.. parang ang bagal lahat...

SSD agree ako jan, game changer!

but 120GB SSD is for system & program files only.. & probably temporary files.

for an HTPC, you'll store lots of movies & music,... tapos kelangan may back up pa... lalu n s mga collector's items. in my case, 10TB n HDD bitin pa rin.

bottom line: if you have to access your files in HDD, wla masyado effect ung SSD.

based on your requirements, a media player (egreat, xtreamer, etc) may be all that you need.

you mentioned that you'll use it solely for xbmc, in this case, you can just use linux OS, it will save you 4-5k ... just use the savings for hardware ... and i also agree with the media player recommendation - with media player, at 12k you'll have a 3 or 4TB HDD with your 15k budget

With Linux OS, the last time I've read, they still have bugs with HD audio bitstreaming using AMD, it is more compatible with NVIDIA unless they have already fixed this with updates.

Assembled this PC for my Mom's church ministry and I believe it's more than adequate for HTPC purposes.

Processer - Intel Core i3-3220 - php4900
Motherboard - Gigabyte B75-HD3M - php2750
Hard Drive - 1TB Western Digital Blue - php3200
Memory - 2GB DDR3 Kingston x 2 - php700 each x 2 = php1400
DVD Drive - Lite On - php850
PC Case - Techware case with Generic 600w PSU - 1000
OS - Windows 7 - 1000

Total - php15,100

Pretty good already, and the Mobo already provides an HDMI out.

@media player
Thanks for the suggestions. Naisip ko ren yun about media player.
