Gerardo de Leon Retrospective at the CCP
« on: Oct 01, 2013 at 09:17 AM »
We kicked off last September 12 thru the launching of the commemorative stamp in celebration of the centennial of National Artist Gerardo de Leon fondly called "Manong Gerry". In line with this, The Society of Filipino Film Archivist for Film invites everyone to watch the masterpieces of the Master Filmmaker.

Last Sep. 12, THE MOISES PADILLA STORY was shown introduced by National Artist for literature Bienvenido Lumbera. Schedule on Oct. 12, Saturday 4pm at the Dream Theatre is SANDA WONG (1955) in 35mm with subtitles restored 15 years ago and was found almost 30 years ago by Film Curator Teddy Co in Hong Kong. The film will be introduce by film critic Atty. Francis "Oggs" Cruz and a discussion/talk will follow after the screening.

See you at the CCP. Free admission!

Gerry de Leon's LILET was released in 1971 before Philippine Cinema ushered to the 2nd Golden Age. Among notable films during this year were Celso Ad Castillo's ASEDILLO & NYMPHA, Ishmael Bernal's debut film, PAGDATING SA DULO, Lino Brocka's STARDOOM, CADENA DE AMOR.

And it's interesting to note that LILET was produced by Mike Velarde.

Continuing Gerardo de Leon's year-long Centennial Celebration with the first film screened at the retrospective, and one of his very best.
