HTPC with Cignal
« on: Apr 08, 2013 at 09:48 PM »
So I have an old PC that I'm planning on converting for NAS / HTPC purposes. Now I have XBMC set up to watch movies (it's connected to my receiver).

Right now, my Cignal box is connected directly to my TV since I don't want to use my big speakers just for normal TV use.

What TV tuner should I get if I want to watch Cignal on the PC so I can record videos? Is it possible to directly connect the satellite cable (coax) to the TV tuner? I'm not sure if TV tuners can connect without the decoder box (and the sim like card for identification). One work around is if I buy a TV tuner with composite/component/HDMI-in so that I can connect it from the decoder box, but it sort of makes the HTPC 'dumb' by just acting as a PVR instead of replacing the box. It also shouldn't be able to automatically download shows based on the EPG (since it can't change the channel of the box).

Thanks for any inputs anyone can give.
