Ordering parts from Mouser.com
« on: Apr 17, 2013 at 08:32 PM »
Has anyone ordered parts from mouser.com ? They ship via fedex and I need to know how much fees I would pay for parts that would cost less than 500 php.

Thanks

Mouser and Digikey are our partners.

Call Air21 at 854-2100 and ask for an estimate of the amount of duties for what you're about to buy. Don't be surprised if you see the shipping fee as a part of the dutiable amount so buy wisely.

Oh, this thread may be about electronics parts and all that, but I think this belongs to the Online Shopping section.

I ordered parts for my Roomba robot vacuum cleaner from Mouser. The parts cost me $15++. Shipping and the duties cost me Php 1.2k.

I should have had the parts shipped to my mom in the U.S.  Would have been way cheaper. :p

Air21 is the local version of Fedex...

i had a bad experience with them when i ordered heatsinks from australia, despite that i already paid Conrad Engineering shipping fees, Fedex/Air21 still charged me 3500 pesos, nakakagalit talaga...

There you go. Air21 will be the one delivering the bad news to you.

Unfortunately, the included customs duties computation will always be the "maximum" possible for that particular package. You cannot contest the amount, it's pay or don't pay (and lose your package).

I am no lawyer so I don't know the laws governing these but it really sucks and there's nothing you can do about it other than lose big, or lose little. In retrospect, you'll have a better chance with the crocodiles at EMS Pasay than Fedex.

about 10kgs, not sure about the total cost, probably around U$80....

wait there is a second incident, i ordred some sockets from goodcomponents.com....i paid U$13 for shipping for total purchase of U$65.....fedex then charged me 600 pesos this time....
again what pissed me off was that i already paid for shipping, why bill me again, the reason air21 gave me was that it was handling fee, napunta yung 600 sa kanila hindi sa gobyerno....
the the subsequent shipments from china, i asked then to send thru the postal system, 4 weeks turn around is not that bad and for 40 pesos fee i paid, sulit.....i even gave the guy at customs a pack of cigarettes as token of my appreciation....

So is it better to go by the postal route than thru the well known couriers (fedex, ups, etc)?

I frequently order items from overseas and  everytime the package arrived at my doorsteps there's always this extra charges by the courier(storage fee/handling fee/special release fee etc etc). the worst i encounter is items only 1kg in weight and only cost 45usd but fedex charge me 2450 pesos, why? because incidentally the items arrived during holy week, no customs to inspect the item so it sits on the warehouse and they charge me storage fee for that(mas mura pa overnight sa SOGO compare sa storage fee nila hehehehe). I also have 1 package in DHL right now that i don't have interest on claiming, its a 20pcs pants zipper sample send to me by one of the supplier in china for my father. they are charging me 600 pesos for informal entry charges, i just told them that instead of paying them 600 ill just buy from divisoria it only cost 8 pesos there hahahaha. via ems you'll have a chance to talk to the customs inspector and negotiate for the customs duties and tax and if they are in the right mood you can get away with minimal fee.

Ordered some parts from mouser, these are the parts that I can not find locally or would not want to take a chance with replacement parts

Parts cost about 1000 php
Shipping from USA to Manila (5 days) via UPS 90 php, yeah thats right 90 PHP !!! PANALO

Heres the sad news,
Documentary Stamps 250
Processing fees 220
VAT 450 PHP

I always have items shipped by ordinary mail. Small value items usually go tax free. I ask small items to be shipped in a padded mailer envelope. These arrive in 2 weeks from the US. If it is handy enough it is brought to my house directly. Parcels take 3 weeks.

Ahh i see,  Same thing, if the supplier uses EMS, I use them too, sadly for Mouser, I dont remember them using EMS as an option.  Come to think of it,  realizing that I get the parts in 4 days and I dont need to go to the post office, spend on gas, traffic, waste time  and deal with the post office staff,  It aint that bad at all.
