Only those who have tested it can affirm but I've read high praises for the clarity and detail of 4k materials on 4k tvs.

Pero kung 1080p on a 4k tv... yan ang magandang tanong kung maganda ba upscaling. Hehe

The closer, the better, I guess.

My son and I went back to Best Buy just to look around,
I met a Filipino salesman on the floor, and he was very much accommodating
sa lahat ng inquiry and requests namin, so we requested na mag-play ng 1080 feed
sa 4K panel na nakadisplay, it was the Sony 55" 4K unit, and right beside it was a Samsung 55"
LED 7450, colors were really vibrant on the 4K panel, very much fluid ang motion, considering
na upscaled signal pa lang yun sa 4K panel, it was really impressive, but according to the guy,
hindi gaano mabii ang 4K dahil sa mahal nga daw ng unit, most consumers choose the LEDs ng
Samsung, LG and Sharp, dahil sa price difference ay halos 80" and above na daw ang mabibili
sa price ng 4K, expect it to go down later this year, once sumunod daw ang ibang manufacturers
sa pag-release ng mga bagong units nila,...

seen this unit yesterday at SM Cebu a 55 inch. version would cost you 400k hehehehe...but the 70 inch. quatron 1080p really caught my attention and mind you not only me it looks likes the whole folks stare on that sharp's 70 inch. LED panel. So it means 4k at 55 inch. does not command attention unless the 4k panel is at least >70 inch. well that would be another ball game. lol...

H.265 is the new streaming codec the streaming industry is trying to perfect, i think its still a year off.

Check out libde265, an open source implementation of HEVC (H.265):

Code: [Select]
ibde265 - open h.265 codec implementation
==========================================

libde265 is an open source implementation of the h.265 video codec.
It is written from scratch in plain C for simplicity and efficiency.
Its simple API makes it easy to integrate it into other software.

Currently, libde265 only decodes intra frames, inter-frame decoding
is under construction. Encoding is planned to be added afterwards.

The library comes with two example programs:

- dec265, a simple player for raw h.265 bitstreams.
It serves nicely as an example program how to use libde265.

- sherlock265, a Qt-based video player with the additional capability
to overlay some graphical representations of the h.265
          bitstream (like CU-trees, intra-prediction modes).

Building
========

libde265 has no dependencies on other libraries, but both example programs
require that you install the libvideogfx library, which you can get from
  http://www.dirk-farin.net/software/libvideogfx/index.html
or
  http://sourceforge.net/p/libvideogfx/code/260/tree/trunk/libvideogfx/

You can disable building of the example programs by running ./configure with
--disable-dec265        Do not dec265 decoder program.
--disable-sherlock265   Do not build sherlock265 visual inspection program.

Additional logging information can be turned on and off using these ./configure flags:
--enable-log-error      turn on logging at error level (default=yes)
--enable-log-info       turn on logging at info level (default=no)
--enable-log-trace      turn on logging at trace level (default=no)

the SONY 55 inch 4K was amazing...grabe ang linaw talaga if you're playing a 4K content!

not recommended for people with bad eyes...sayang lang! hahaha!

maybe the best compromise is a 70inch or 84inch na 4K....assuming there's already an abundance of 4K content...crap! that means I have to update my whole library as well! nyeta!

I would be spending thousands of Dollars and time on  current-gen downloadable contents first before this 4K thingy becomes mainstream...so not a bother at all.  Besides, I don't like watching replays/catalogues and time is always insufficient for watching totally new releases.  Anyhow, encoders should be able to figure out a way to compress native 4K contents efficiently.

100GB discs point to 4K Blu-ray
An announcement by Singulus Technologies, a maker of
replication machines that produce Blu-ray discs, points
toward a new standard for 4K Blu-ray.

by David Katzmaier
September 12, 2013 6:41 AM PDT

A physical media standard for next-generation 4K video now looks closer than ever.

A German optical disc replication equipment maker by the name of Singulus Technologies has announced details on a new machine, the Bluline III, capable of manufacturing triple-layer Blu-ray discs that can store up to 100GB.

Just curious if 4K displays is it worth considering 4K feature NMTs to pair. I've read of 4K NMT players, are there materials already out there and is it now the new standard? or would it do 1080p to 4K upscaling , and if at all, will they matter for our mostly 1080p

No, definitely not.

The Bluline III can produce 100Gb triple layer BDs.  That's about it.  No specs or standards for any 4K BD yet.  All the press release is saying is that the machine has the potential for making 4K discs.

UHDTV will use HDMI 2.0 (up from today's HDMI 1.4), Rec 2020 (up from today's Rec 709), and H.265 HEVC (up from today's H.264 AVC).  None of today's BD players are capable of those specs.
