Most basic media player
« on: Jun 02, 2013 at 04:53 AM »
Hi guys. Need suggestions for the most basic media player that I'm planning to get for my parent's house. Requirements:

1. Will be used to hook up to CRT tv. So I need composite video. Hdmi is just a nice to have for now just in case they upgrade tv.
2. RCA audio since I will only use tv. No ampli/audio receiver set
3. Don't need networking
4. Don't need best pq. Since as mentioned it will only be used for CRT tv
5. Single USB port for external hdd will do. No need for internal drive
6. Don't need something that can play so many formats. I just usually get mkv movies and avi
7. Very easy to operate interface (my folks are not very techy)
8. Cheapest price

I was already thinking of getting the old wdtv but heard that it doesn't do DTS downmixing which could be a problem for some of my mkv movies. Am I correct to assume this? Or is this problem only for hdmi connection?

Any suggestions?

I'd say an Xtreamer Elvira would be the best for your parents. Cheapest na nabili ko before is a Measy A3 pero bumigay yung power cord connection at masyadong maliit yung remote for senior citizens. Or scout the MP for cheaper alternatives.
