Alienware’s upcoming QD-OLED monitor has a $1,299 price tag

https://www.theverge.com/2022/2/13/22932031/alienwares-qd-oled-monitor-price-tag

Hmm, still expensive but not too bad considering the specs. I was expecting the first QD-OLED gaming monitor to be much more expensive than this because it makes use of a bleeding edge panel and that it's supposed to directly compete with those high-end MiniLED G-Sync Ultimate gaming monitors from the likes of ASUS which cost about $3K.

the price tag is much cheaper than expected, this also comes with a 3-year warranty, hence they are probably confident that burn-in issue is already mitigated with QD-OLED

huhuhu

how much cheaper did it go?

Can't remember exactly, pero not less than 70K I'm sure. Sa mga online shops like Ab***** and An**** yun. Pero if you check FB Marketplace, C1 55" is at 66K na lang if cash.  :)

This is a TV unique in its target use case but still executed well.  However, the problem with Philips has always been its pricing relative to the competition, particularly outside Europe.

https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/philips-65oled986-65-inch-oled-tv

VERDICT

The 65OLED986 is a proposition unlike any other – except its predecessor, of course. There are plenty of TVs out there that have upgraded sound, but none that with a straight face could seriously suggest replacing your hi-fi.

Now, we wouldn’t go as far as to say you should throw away your hi-fi gear and buy the OLED986 instead, as building a system with dedicated bits of kit will always get you a better performance, and for less money. But if you are determined to have a single, super-clean and stylish system for all of your TV, movie and music needs, there’s currently nothing better.

Finally pull the trigger and bought an LG C1.

So far I am still blown away by it color specially the black and red.

But I notice this morning that the white and gray got "murky".

Ran screen test and indeed there are color banding issue. specially on the side of the screen.

White  Test

yes I believe so. the white should be perfectly white but as you can see, there multiple colors specially the side which is green.

The second screen should be perfect gray, but its not.

This is the purpose of the screen test. I actually use this test when I bought the unit and it all passed.

Is there a way to fix this? hassle din kase magpa warranty.

For OLED screen issues, does LG warranty allow to change the unit or just the screen?

My unit is barely a month old...

Contact LG and see what they can do. I'm pretty happy with their service.

My friend in Bangkok just got his C2.  It looks like it's about to arrive here in Manila too.

Anybody know any inside info on PH distribution?

Waiting for the QD-OLEDs from Sony and Samsung. Seems the pricing is about the same level as the equivalently sized LG OLED G2 models. Not bad.

QD-OLED is still new. a bit drawback is that technology is not yet stable.

Maybe you meant not yet proven because I haven’t heard about any stability issues with the new panel. In fact, it already incorporates many of the lessons learned from years of progress with oled technology.

What I wanted to see in the grey market was the Panasonic 2021 line, which seems to be conspicuously absent these days.

As for QD-OLED, if Samsung sticks to their ridiculous 1-year warranty then it will not be worth it to go with Samsung.  Plus, Tizen is trash.

any recommended grey market stores? I assume these do not have the same warranty and service as the local LG/Sony?

Yeah, I'm more interested in Sony's QD-OLED offering and it's got Google TV OS plus better out of the box factory calibration. Alienware is giving 3-years warranty on their QD-OLED gaming monitor so I guess that means something.

OLED on mobile display - Yes.  TV no, since I doubt LG will share what they learn from the past 10 years.

Haha Yeah.  They should follow the trend on 2 year warranty. Not that my previous samsung failed me after 2 years, but addn'l 1 year peace of mind is better than none at all.

and yes, tizen is bullcrap

Funny you mentioned OLEDs on mobile displays because these include laptops too and these mobile displays get more static elements than TVs. It's not like LG is the only one doing R&D on OLED display tech.

QD-OLED is not AMOLED though and it’s not like mobile oled display tech has not progressed to mitigate burn-in…

Agree. but they are the only one supplying the TVs (big screen) and they have monopoly on it.

LG had offered to replace the panel/module.

What do you guys suggest? The unit is fairly new and the banding is not that noticeable (yet).
