the unit that i got is a lemon ... just noticed now that there is a green vertical line from top to bottom near the left side of the screen ... i just called Abenson and requested for a replacement

It's good that the problem appeared early so you can still get a new unit.

That's a common problem, not just on Sammy.  Usually it's not the plasma panel, but the Y-sustain board.  Either a loose ribbon connector to the board, or the board itself is defective.  The remedy is to check the connections; if problem is still there, replace sustain board.

In your case, it should be a TV replacement, since the unit is so new.

Mine super babad but at the lowest cell light setting na pwede to my eyes para more even muna ang phosphor torching and para ilabas na any factory defect at the earliest time for possible replacement. And before shutting down the TV, I always run the screen burn protection ( scrolling ) to 15 minutes auto shut down to eliminate all temporary IR as this TV is used for over 10 hours as a PC monitor.
Right now, we are continuously monitoring its energy/power consumption using the data logger voltcraft plus digital meter. As of today, I am expecting P400-P600 increase in Meralco bill. Not bad for a power hug TV that trounced our ex SD definition 40 inch Mitsubishi CRT TV, currently being used SD definition 37 inch Sony CRT TV, all our CCFL-LCD TVs and PC monitors, and all our LED-LCD TVs and PC monitors. Even the LG 50LN5400 that we recently bought for my sister's son PC monitor is no match to this TV's over all performance both as a PC monitor and for watching movies.
As expected, hindi pa rin nababago ang old data namin ni Tipidpc master about relative power consumption ng mga TV: same size po ang basis ng data at more or less lang ito

plasma ------ 100 watts ( reference consumption )
CCFL-LCD---- 60 watts
LED-LCD----- 40 watts

Our Sammy 51 inches na plasma is rated at 299 watts
LG 50LN5400 50 inches na LED-LCD is rated at 120 watts ( not very sure sa exact rating since wala na TV dito sa amin but tama pa rin ang data at the time we were doing the readings )
Oh boy, indeed this P30t plasma is a bang for the buck!
Right now, ipon mode for the 55 incher 4k TV baka late next year affordable na at kaya na talaga bilhin. We tried it at the store as a PC monitor and all I can say is watching it at 3 feet this is a perfect PC monitor.

Diretsohin mo lang from entrance, nasa right lang sya. Malapit sa sharp section.

Sabi ng papa ko our old discarded 40 inch Mitsubishi crt TV was more reflective than our currently alive and kicking 37 inch Sony crt TV. This Samsung plasma is less reflective than our Sony and we are watching at this crt TV in a bright and well lighted room, although I admit the set is not really facing the windows directly. If one is used to the old crt TVs well I don't find a bright room will give any one a headache unless the plasma is directly in front of the light source.
Our experience with this Sammy it is reflective but watchable just like an ordinary crt TV. But if one wants to fully enjoy the blacks and good contrast this plasma got then better control your environment.

that's good to know. important din ang ability to control the amount of light sa room mo. :)

I saw this tv today at abensons Shang. At default movie picture settings, pq is really good. The panel is quite reflective but that's acceptable coming from panny 40x30

yes okay na okay.
the TV is 3-ft away and perpendicular to a large window on the 2nd floor
perfectly viewable sa brightness set at 18 cell light and the detailed settings on the page 3 link
kahit afternoon around 2-3pm on a sunny day - the window is facing due west
white walls, white ceiling

I suppose 90 degrees to the light source is not much of a distraction

it's reflective and glossy yes
but does not reflect like a mirror
you need to have contrasting background and foreground subjects to notice the reflection
say white background and a dark subject foreground - still not as reflective
unless of course you're actually looking for reflections in the screen

to those asking about the quality or reflectiveness on a bright room, i guess the best test would be going to Abenson Avant in Greenbelt or Abenson Glorietta ... said stores are brightly lit

For now yes and it's Full HD

There was a release from Panasonic, 50X50 (720p) which cost about 27K then.

No.  It's not the cheapest 51" plasma, but it is the cheapest 51" plasma 1080p.

Mas mura ang 51F4000 --- 51" 720p

So pleased with the 51f5000. Solid specs, no frills and it ended up cheap. I sold the free ledtv for a measly 11k. The plasma is indeed reflective in a well lit room but great naman at night. Curtains do the trick as well.
Great with ps3, sometimes mw3 is literally in my face, the blu ray movies are crispy with really solid blacks. Media player movies via Elvira are as crisp as actual bd movies. no complaints there, it all depends on source quality. I had it wall mounted, 1k lang all in from Abenson's.
I was aiming for the older 51e550, but stocks ran out when I had the resources to purchase. I consoled myself to the full hd sans 3d and smart features. Lo and behold nagka stocks sa sm appliance megamall at 42k. Grrrr.
I did not break the unit in. it was totally an out of the box thing from day one, although i had to re box it due to a very persistent Habagat.
It runs hot, yes. I have not felt peso wise how much electricity it consumes but I'm sure it will spike my bill a little.
Sulit naman eh. sulit na sulit.

Sige lang gamit ng plasma.
Nagbaba naman Meralco charges for October, eh - 54centavos daw per KWh
For some reason mababa din konsumo namin sa October bill after getting the plasma

One more week of data logging on a voltcraft plus power/energy digital meter ay pwede na malalaman namin how much really is the power consumption of this power hug plasma. I will share it with you guys soon but as of now we already have a clear picture how this TV behaves as a PC monitor, as a TV and as a movie monitor.
Kung used ito as a PC monitor malakas ang power consumption since most of the time during browsing halos puti po lahat ang background ( 239 watts - 279 watts, depending on the picture setting ).  When used naman sa TV reception at movies halos walang pagkakaiba sa Sony 37 inch SD CRT monitor namin and sometimes reads lesser power consumption pa. Regardless of the picture mode selected ( dynamic, movie or standard ), once the signal is almost or completely black, the minimum power consumption is about 36 watts. And very interestingly, compared to our smaller CCFL-LCD TVs, this plasma by average consumes even lesser power. So many surprises on our part with the initial/partial observations but suffice it to say, as of this moment, if you intend to use this baby for TV and movie viewing as long as you don't torch it ( vivid ), DO NOT WORRY ON POWER/ENERGY CONSUMPTION !!!! Kung may kunting  dagdag man sa Meralco bill worth it po for the excellent viewing angle, very deep back, better contrast and more accurate skin tone compared to our LCDs.

Mr. skoooooooter,
Matagal na po ginagawa ng papa ko , as an electronics and medical engineer in the Silicon Valley, ang plasma as a PC monitor! Part of his job in the US even before nauso ang mga big LCD screen as PC monitors, sa kanya ay ordinary lang ang plasma gawin monitor. For your info, Mr. Skoooooter, this Samsung plasma TV when used as a PC monitor consumes only 150 watts maximum and 70 watts minimum dahil we set our cell light at 0-3 only since our computer area is light controlled. This reading is no worse than our Sony, LG and Samsung CCF-LCD TVs.
The way you react po Mr. Skoooooooter to some ideas being shared by other PDVD members it is as if you ALWAYS have the first hand knowledge of the topic. LOL!
For your info, Mr. SKOOOOOOOTER, bata pa kami we were already used to big standard definition CRT TVs available in the market viewing at very close distances of less than 4 feet.
Advice ko po, act like a person, like a real man, Mr. Skooooter. Nakakapikon ka na, sir ! LOL !

And for your added info Mr. Skooooter, yong dati naming mga CRT PC monitors in the past ay Sony na over 20 inches ang size na really big at that time. Kaya nga po hintay lang namin maging reasonable ang price ng 4k TVs locally para maka ipon mode for the next purchase, to be used again as a PC monitor in a HTPC set up para sulit investment lalo kung to be used at least 10 hours a day.
