Nakikita nyo po profile ko na picture, babae po ako and that is not the proper way to treat a lady. Sana po igalang nyo ako the way you do it to your beloved mom.
I have nothing against your knowledge sourced primarily from GOOGLE but I still respect your narrow minded attitude towards some members in PDVD. SARCASTIC ka and sarcasm is a sign of ignorance and bitterness.

Back to sharing.......
The main reason why po may advantage using a big PC monitor is marami ka maopen at the same time. When browsing, we use here Winsplit Revolution free software para ilang sites simultaneously namin makikita  parang naka ilang monitors ka. Matipid instead of using eyefinity setup na gamit din namin sa isang HTPC dito. Kagandahan nito is when comparing prices, specs, etc. from different sites kita agad at the same time at katumbas ng ilang monitors na.

using the tv as a monitor has been one of my projects eversince crt days.. dun mo matutunan ang interlacing and etc.  dati sa crt tv masakit sa mata.. we wanted to play games in a big tv using the pc. pero di talaga kaya..

when hdtvs came out, medyo nakipagsabayan na sa resolution ng monitors.. imagine 640x480 dati tapos naging 800x600, and ngayon swak na ang 1280x720 upto 1920x 1080.. pero syempre as TVs improve, so did pc resolutions.. parang 1600x1200 now and 2560x1440 wqhd. again naiwan na naman si hdtv.. pero mukhang mag memeet sila sa UHD resolutions..

its really a blast hooking your PC to a TV monitor.. as they say. the bigger the better.

and i dont see nothing wrong kung gusto ng may ari ng TV i hook up ang PC nya sa TV.. its his money... he/she can do whatever he/she wishes...

heck, i can even buy a 4ktv and pasabugin ko.. pakialam ba ng ibang tao? pera ko naman ginamit ko diba?

lol. ;D

I was actually using my 2010 50V2 plasma as monitor for my HTPC for a while, and until recently, sometimes even using my wife's laptop.   Personally, I prefer the quality of text if I use the designated PC connection of the V2 (VGA) than HDMI - mas mild sa mata because it maxes at 1366x768 - perfectly fine for a 50 inch monitor.   If I use HDMI, I can get 1920x1080 but Full HD texts don't look as nice.
However, I'm not sure if such dedicated PC port is provided sa Samsung plasmas.

@anya618,
4 split screen po sir using Winsplit Revolution........

@Clondalkin,
unfortunately wala po sir VGA input ang 51F5000 plasma at adjust na lang sa sharpness ng TV at tweak sa text clarity using the PC itself ang ginawa namin......

whoa... I didn't know that pwede gawing monitor. I mean I read before na iba ang characteristics ng monitor vs a TV because of response rate or something. I tried it before back when ATI 4870 was still king and I did not like the results (drop in fps). But with advancements in technology if playing games using a monitor is the same as a tv mag 50 incher na ako... I can see myself playing fps rts games sa pc and sports and strategy sa ps3. I can live without the surfing part kasi may phone naman for that. Patay talaga ako ni misis pag naging totoo to... hahaha...

it's possible. I plan to replace my 23" monitor with a 32" Full HD 3D tv sometime in the future. ;)  ;D

My HTPC is circa 2007 pa with Core2Duo and ATI4870 and I could feel na hirap nga yung PC - hindi as smooth compared to when Im just using a single monitor. Hehehe.   Pero with more powerful CPUs and graphics cards these days, it should have improved a lot na...kaso, unless nagbago na ikot ng mundo, lagi namang number 1 na demanding sa PC hardware specs ang mga pinakabagong FPS games.  Palaging 1-2 generations ahead ang latest FPS games compared to mainstream PC specs.

Ang basic na difference ng HDTV and PC monitor, disabled or mahina ang video processing sa PC monitor.  Such video processing makes image (moving image) nicer at the expense of text quality.

hehehe pareho ata tayo ng set up. E-8400 + 4870. And true hirap siya sa 32" na LCD. When I upgraded to 5850 hirap pa din and modern warfare. hindi ko na inulit. I stuck w a 24" monitor

Please expound.
direct output labas niya 1:1

My original plan was also to use a 1080p TV as monitor for the bigger pixels for farther viewing

okay
please correct if I still get it wrong
yung built-in processor ng flat panel ang pinag-uusapan
mas geared ang flat panel processor sa video playback compared to text
did I get it?

Yes, if you meant the flat panel as HDTV (just like 51F5000)

Yes, if you meant the flat panel as a monitor only (no TV tuner) like your usual PC monitor

The TV was finally delivered at 4pm earlier
Unfortunately my Sabre rack mount does not support the 400mm vertical

Is your rack the wall mount type? What does this mean - the rack is not big enough to use for a 51" tv?

Nalito din ako, na correct ko na.
Ha ha... Thanks. All clear now. I'd like to delve deeper but it'll be off topic.
Going back to topic, in my case, dalawa gamit kong displays.
This TV for movies and a PC monitor for computing and display intensive tasks (2560x1440)

Is your rack the wall mount type? What does this mean - the rack is not big enough to use for a 51" tv?

This is the rack I have

This is the Centauri C
According to PDVD members who trade this model It'll only support up to 40-inches
I had no idea 50-inch TVs would go down to this price point back in 2009 when we got the rack
The vertical gray bars are only 320mm or so in length

In any case, the wife decided to configure the bedroom as the HT room instead of the
originally planned living room. So the 51F5000 will now stay in the bedroom

My challenge now is to accommodate the Onkyo HT-S5400 into the bedroom
It'll have to pass the scrutiny of the wife which means the speakers will have to be invisible
This will be a most interesting November build
