Nobody (can) watches this 5100 with lights on?  Wala akong makitang display unit where I'm currently based but online order is possible.

yes sir masyado reflective yung panel nya during daytime viewing kaya washout ang image nya but during nightime viewing winner talaga ang pq ng plasma nito. my cuzin has it.

Thanks.  Found this review with pics under dark and lighted rooms (placement of his lampshade is definitely stupid, in any case, it gives me a good idea what to expect during the day).    Where did all those ST50/60s go?  Got to scrutinize the LED options perhaps.

Can someone be kind to post a pic of this plasma under bright room lights?

Planning to buy a bedroom TV where I am currently assigned, and the Samsung 5300 (seems equivalent to the 5100) is the only 1080p plasma I can find for around $690 at Amazon.  Too bad I passed on the 50ST50 for the same price last year.

I checked the latest $399 42 inch 720p plasmas from Panasonic, LG and Samsung.  While LG seems to be the best choice among the 720ps, the screen door effect, even for 42 inchers, bothers me even in the store's display room.   Paano na kung 50 incher.  Wala na lahat ng 1080p Panasonics kaya I'm even considering 1080 LEDs na.

Thanks!

Am stuck and in the same dilemma sir,...
Baka in the end ay mauwi din ako sa Samsung 8500 na medyo mahal,
or mapilitan na lang sa 240hz na LED,...

It was a choice between the washer and dryer or the 65VT60,
had to choose the first one at mas importante sa bahay,
by the time na may pambili na ay napakamahal na ng Viera,
worse, wala ng stock sa Best Buy, puro online na lang,...

LEDs of the same size and even bigger ay mas mura ng bahagya,
so I might end up getting a 70 LED with a much lower price tag,
had to sacrifice one or the other aspect,...

Anyway, good luck sir,...

Regards,...

here are some pics i've taken ... there's a 32W round fluorescent lamp directly above the tv, and a chandelier with 5 x 4W daylight LED lamp ... personally, i'm ok even will all those lights turned on

Kelan kaya lalabas ang upgrade sa 8500? -  in order to bring down the price of the 8500.  hehehe.

Or better yet, hopefully Samsung will offer an equivalent model to the ST60.  Masyadong malayo ang gap ng 5100/5300/5500 sa 8500...and matagal pa magmumura ang OLED and malayo pa ang 4K contents.  I'm just hoping for more plasma TV choices at least until the new TV techs become mainstream.

Or ilabas nalang muna lahat ng hoarded na ST60s and VT60s.  hehehe.

got mine 51F8500 for 80k here in pinas i think 80k is the cheapest around....w/this panel at home i don't crave a 4K LCD-LED panel...to bad panasonic plasmas are not around in our local market.

I was just at Market!Market! Abenson and the 51F5000 is selling for 39,995 (cash/straight charge) with free 28" TV. Is there still a weekend promo with lower price?

that's basically the price ... you can avail of a lower price only if you do not get the free 28-inch tv ... it's about 30,200+ without the freebie

Finally pulled the trigger on this.

Question: did you guys really do the check on the display hours and the pixel test when you received the unit?

My unit's now on its, more or less, 129th hour since January 25 and doin' great!  Got a bit worried when I saw a green vertical line about an inch from the right side during a TV commercial last Friday night but it disappeared when the next TV ad came...I guess it was because of the TV broadcast or commercial, hopefully.

Got this unit from Avant Greenbelt last Friday :) Delivered Sunday, but just installed today.

Price there is 31,995, for card straight charge without free TV. If you want the nicer deals being posted, check the other branches of Abenson or Avant. I tried asking for the 30,995 or 30,200 lower price posted here but was told no. Since I have no EQ, just pulled the trigger :)

Questions -

1. What "sound" mode do you choose - movie?
2. Do you use a HDMI splitter?

TO unit owners,
is it still good to view DVDs and standard cable on this one, besides watching blu-rays?

it's good, but you would really notice the big difference in picture quality watching BD, HD movies from NMT, or HD broadcast ... you would likely just opt for HD contents

Thanks Raptor,
I'm not sure if I'll go for FULLHD or just an HD-READY plasma, so that I could still enjoy my DVDs.

Most of my DVDs look great on my 51F5000... SD broadcast is okay...upgrade to an HD-capable box if you can...a little improvement on image quality of SD channels at least

DVD's look a lot better on this plasma than on my LED (both are FullHD).

Do you guys use any speakers to improve the sound of this TV (for regular cable tv viewing)? If yes, can you specify what speakers?

No.
The speakers can get very loud, especially in an enclosed area like a room
Our house has crappy 2-inch hollow walls with 4.5mm hardiflex panels
when the volume is set to 25 the room next to ours can hear the sound clearly

in my case, it's not needed for regular viewing, but it's hooked-up to my HT setup, but only using the HT for movies and music
