Which amp did you pair that you found slight lack of bass? You need lot of juice to make it sing... :'(
I was running the 205's though a Cambridge Audio 840W. To be honest I thought the bass a bit lightweight when I auditioned them at the supplier & they were using an Electrocompaniet Amp & CD transport. These are recommended by KEF as ideal companions for the reference series.

Congrats oldboyracer! Your system is a blast just by reading your list of gears. I hope to audition it sometime.

Actually that was also my initial thought. But considering the value of his gears, i don't think oldboyracer would concern himself with electricity bills compared to his pure enjoyment. I'd choose an 85" plasma anytime over any PJ projecting at 100". Iba pa din ang direct lighting ng monitor/tv vs reflected light ng Pj screen. But I guess that's just me. I've experienced an 85" projected screen dati and very considerable na ang size talaga. What more ang plasma.
Thanks Nelson, you're welcome anytime. Your right, I don't have a problem with the cost of the power. My feelings are the same as yours, PJ's haven't quite caught up with the best Plasmas yet.

What's the specific model of your BK Monolith? You really love your gears that you are willing to have it shipped here rather than just selling your stuff in UK and buying a whole new setup here.

Size does matter. Installed both 90" and 80" led tv and yes
Its vivid but still less awesome compared to
120" sized screen imho lang naman. For oldboys room size a 120-140" screen is in order hahahah
Hi Ricky hear what you say & you're correct size does matter but at the moment I'm going more for PQ. IMHO LED screens cannot yet compare high end Plasmas. The TH-85VX200 is a commercial screen so doesn't have to comply with domestic regulations & Panasonic have done some weird & wonderful things with it. I will give an evaluation of the Panny once it is up & running, hopefully I won't be disappointed. If I am PJ it is.

Lol! Looks like some folks are doing the voodoo that they do!
This is gonna be good!
Thanks for the comment but I'm a bit long in the tooth when it come to Audio & Video, let's just say I can hold my own. We are in a world of free speech so everyone has a right to voice their opinion, whether or not one agrees with it is a matter of choice. I have my own ideas but as a retired electronics engineer I can use a lot of technical know how when making my decisions.

What's the specific model of your BK Monolith? You really love your gears that you are willing to have it shipped here rather than just selling your stuff in UK and buying a whole new setup here.
Hi Doc, Monolith is the model, the manufacturer is BK Electronics. They are a well established UK electronics company who made their name designing & manufacturing electronics for Cinemas. They also worked very closely with REL & manufactured some of their subs. They have also supplied other well named companies & decided make & market their own.The result is a range of affordable high quality units, the Monolith being the top of the range, Monolith by name & Monolith by size. BK have just upgraded it to Mononlith Plus increasing the amp from 300 to 500 watts & using a different driver. Adam Rayner from Home Cinema Choice in his review said he found it hard to distinguish the Monolith from his P172K REL. BTW the Monolith is P31.4K. Anyone who is on a budget & wants a high quality sub will not go far wrong in having a BK. They will ship to Phils & will E-mail you the costs. For those interested their address is www.bkelec.com. For DIYer's they also manufacture plate amps & supply drivers ready to drop into your own housing.
There was another reason for shipping my gear, the house. I don't think the wife would have liked me much if I told her I was spending the money for the house on my toys. You're right I love what I have at the moment & some of it I haven't switched on yet. Happiness to come hopefully.

Indeed and without a doubt. You'll find however that some folks here in PDVD loosely joke around with the term voodoo (or "Kulam" as we fondly call it) when we appreciate the set ups of fellow members and jokingly goad them for more upgrades. (the jokes may at times be half meant but its all in good fun)

Anyway, looking forward to your setup!

I second the motion.  Our hobby is a journey of non-ending upgrades.  There are times that we try to hide some "secret purchases" and have our own way of having the right timing to tell our significant other.  Having her translate what is posted in this site can be harmful to your obsession, I mean, hobby.

You're right but I think it will be Bisaya first & then learn the differences between the two. I new I would have a big learning curve when I relocated here.
As JVC are recognised as making the best PJ's that is where I would start, I've also heard good reports of the screen. At the moment the 1st thing on the agenda is to get the HT built, the room to my acoustic liking & enjoying till the upgrade urge starts tugging. It may be a speaker upgrade 1st, TBH sound grabs me more than video but we'll see, one never knows what is around the corner, Holographic displays maybe.

Haha you're absolutely correct doc but I think I would have trouble hiding most of the upgrades. For the small stuff a little white lie about the cost & get the good lady surprise present works well.

Watch this space !

I M P R E S S I V E !

I guess you got everything figured out already and its a matter of shipping the gears from the UK to Manila.

If you are still in the 'building' phase of the house, you can specify the following:

1. a different electrical circuit for your audio/HT room from the rest of the house

2. surge suppressor bank + voltage regulators can be integrated in a wall or ceiling somewhere OUTSIDE the room

3. wire up the HT/Audio room where the gears would be placed

Benefits:
1. The output voltage on the wall outlet IN the HT/Audio room is already 'filtered'.

2. There's no clutter of extension cords, big voltage regulators / surge suppressors competing with attention and space with the HT / Audio gears.

Hi Mikeer, thanks for your thoughts & advice. As a retired electronics engineer I've already stuck my nose into the electrical spec. & specified the Audio & HT outlets to be isolated from the rest of the house, each will have 2 separate feeds each. I aim for each system to have it's  own AVR, the whole house will be surge suppressed with local suppression for Audio & HT & I will also be using line conditioners.
The house will also be networked, which reminds me I forgot to put the networking kit on the list of gear - I will do that shortly.
Yes everything is in the UK waiting for my residents visa to be approved before shipping to Cebu. I will also be bringing all the cable & interconnects that I need but I'm sure I've forgotten one or two things so I'll be asking you guys for assistance if I get into difficulties.
At the moment the only work in the HT room for the builder will be the dry walling & insulation, the rest I will do myself as I am very handy at DIY. I will even try my hand at carpet laying, there is also the satisfaction factor - 'I did that'.
The only kit I have brought with me are the network switches, firewall & router. I spotted some very nice HT seats & just had to have them, I will post pictures of those later.
Thanks  again for your suggestions, much appreciated.

Hi Gino, I'm familiar with that quote being an avid F1 follower - or I was until my gear went into storage. In my experience I have found that it doesn't matter how much you think you know some one always comes along with a tit bit of information & you think 'I never thought of that'. So I welcome any offer of advice & thank those who taking the time to offer help - that's my philosophy. I also appreciate the banter, it stops life being boring.

Hi Narayan thanks for the welcome. I'm also looking forward to completion so I can again wallow in sound & vision. Not looking forward to the hard sweat when I get involved with the build. There will be a dedicated HT room & the stereo will be in the living room which will be acoustically horrible hence the Anti Mode Dual Core. I would have liked a separate stereo room but the cost would have been prohibitive but I may convert one of the bedrooms at a later date.
