Seemed like your girls are bored watching Dune. I suggest you plug in some Tagalog drama/love story flicks to keep their interest. I'm sure those movies will maximize your high end setup.

Hey, steady Doc, this room is my domain  ;D Your suggested movies will be shown on the 50" Pioneer  ;) :) BTW they were not bored but so interested it kept them quiet for ages   ;D

I'm sure they'd prefer watching some afternoon soap opera on your 85" plasma. ;D

I'm sure they would DTNS but I think the attraction at the moment is the comfort of the seats  :)

The install completed at 5 this morning so some quick pics & i will take some proper shots when I've cleared up tomorrow.

Acoustic panel install carried out by Erwin Allen. He & his team, front right in the background.

The team again with front left in the background.

Looking towards right rear.

Looking towards left rear. Those of you who are eagle eyed will notice the white spots on the door, a little touch up job for my decorator after a slight error of judgement.

Now, it's looking great OBR..!  Yes I agree, the acoustic panels look fine left as they are. Unless you want to go thru another trouble of fixing the cover. All I can say, Congrats and thanks for sharing every details of your build.... ;D it's normal to do some touching up after completion of work. " two thumbs up" ...   ^-^

Yup your room elicits the "shock and awe" response.

Just curious if your panels "deadened" the room. Seemed like most of it are absorbers.

Thanks for the appreciation Doc  :)
Your correct they are absorbers but after a quick sound check I don't think it is overly deadened. It seems dead to a normal room but that's only to be expected & I would liken it to how I remember the Cinema. I have got the average 30% coverage (looks a lot more) & using the same volume levels so I think I will be OK. As the panels are held on with Velcro I have plenty of room for experimentation if I get the urge to start tweeking  >:D

You might want to try some diffusers at the back. It might help in a seamless surround sound effect. Just some food for thought.

Thanks for the suggestion Doc, I will have to do a lot more research into acoustics. From what I've read so far the general feeling is non reflective front & rear & diffusers on the sides but with all of this as long as the basic rules are applied the rest (fine tuning) is down to personal preference. Some like a more lively room but as yet I haven't sampled mine to find out if I've got it anywhere near right. Also I think the acoustics will be different between HT & audio, I will have my audio system in the living room so that's where I expect to encounter most of my acoustical problems. I may have to get some test equipment & run my own tests.

In this room, I have a feeling only one person will care about room sound quality. Looking really good.

Good to know there will be a second system coming up. Wow.

I totally agree on this. There is always the discussion between reference and preference. Reference might not sound good to you.  For example, when Audyssey calibrates my system. Personally, the volume level given by Audyssey to my subs is a little conservative that's why I add a little more to suit my taste.  Tests of experts were done in a controlled environment. Different rooms have different responses. Best way is to experiment which might take awhile but could be enjoyable to you!  It is not the sound engineers that will listen and enjoy your system anyway.

You're right there Gino, as far as the wife is concerned as long as there is noise & some sort of picture the quality is irrelevant.
In the UK I had the audio system running alongside the HT, pre outs from the AVR & the audio amp driving the left & right fronts. When I relocated to Cebu I had the opportunity to have 2 systems so purchased speakers, amps & pre amp. The old amp & pre amp will still drive the right & left fronts so with the addition of another CD player plus the streaming I can have some reasonable sound in the HT room whilst the soaps are on  >:D I will post when the audio system is up & running.

I agree whole heartedly Doc, it is usual to lift the sub output after an Audyssey calibration. What I have found interesting is that my AVR still has the calibration I used in the UK, I have only re calibrated the sub & not only does the system sound reasonable, the sub seemed to be trying to shake the foundations  ;D
The good thing now is being retired I have all my time to experiment  ;D I'm looking forward to playing with the gears  ;D

Update :- The clearing up & cleaning is taking longer than expected so the photos are on hold for a couple of days. The door & wall in front of the left surround will be retouched tomorrow, interview at the Bureau of Immigration on Wednesday so things will slow up for a few days.

Update :- I have been experimenting & it has become obvious the the room is suitable for movies but no good for music. That said I have been using the Oppo to spin CD's & running through the Onkyo so not ideal, more experimenting to be done using a CD player direct through the main amp. The audio system will be in the living room so I will have a mix of diffusers & absorbers. Just waiting for the power to be installed so we can move in.

It would be fun if I had all the equipment on site with me, still the living room system shouldn't have too many dramas  ;) ??? :)
A little more paint retouching today & that should be the decor completed  ;D

Update :- Spent the last 2 days making single panel covers for the corner bass traps (to make the corners look pretty), probably will be completed & fitted tomorrow. Paint retouching still to do as VECO cut our electric supply (no light), apparently our neighbour was violating their contract by giving us power. My architect delivered a generator late last night so hopefully we will have power until VECO install a temporary supply   >:(

Yes very bad news Gino, the generator we have is only small, no regulation so lighting up & down. I'm not prepared to do anything else in sub lighting so having to wait until a temporary supply is put in. The annoying thing is VECO will be installing the full power connection within 2 or 3 weeks  >:( >:( >:(

Not that it's my business, but why would a neighbor supply power? Did he sell you the property? When I sold my adjacent lot, the new owner wanted to temporarily hook up on mine. I said no of course.

It was organised by my architect & we had our own meter so we could split the costs accurately. In the UK this is not a problem if a private arrangement is made. I think it was cost saving as I would need more than 25KW the power install is chargeable so with a temporary supply it was being charged twice for the install. In hind sight yes we should have had a temporary supply but as I say organised by my architect & a year ago I was being guided by him - I'm a bit wiser now  :). Yes we bought the land from the neighbour who was also a friend of the family. Apparently there is a clause in the contract with VECO which states you cannot give power to anyone, this is very strange for me but you learn something new every day so my education is continuing  ;D.

As we have a lack of power we have spent the day transferring about 75% of our belongings the the house. I've employed a security guard to keep an eye on things till we move in. I will start assembling the audio system tomorrow so a few more pics  :).

You can thank informal settlers for that law. A funny incident occured many years back. When a big bus company burned, suddenly an entire community of illegal settlers were without power. Without the bus company's knowledge, it was supplying power for everyone ha ha. Water too.

Update :- TV/audio rack assembled today, back in the UK this housed only the HT gear but as I've added an amp to the audio system the old audio rack is not big enough. I may use both & juggle the gears a bit. In the mean time a couple of pics.
