HT system for a 9-12 SQM living room.
« on: Oct 20, 2013 at 11:45 PM »
Hi all!

I'm planning on setting up a HT system.

Our living room is only about 9-12 sqm.

Too much po ba yung speaker with 100w per channel?

Never pa po ako bumili ng HT system. Palaging aux lang ang component from pc.

Try ko mag audition ng JBL Cinema SB400, or yung AVR + Speakers.

The usage mostly is for Movies, then gaming, then music.

Any suggestions po?

Many thanks!

Hi!

I suggest that you go the AVR + speakers route. HTIB is fine for a starter set-up but I guarantee you that you will
eventually upgrade in the future. :) An AVR will offer more flexibilty and better upgrade options. You may start with two front speakers then eventually work your way to a 5.1 system.

If you could state your budget, I'm sure others would chime in with their suggestions too. That will give you an idea on what brands to auditon when you're ready to start purchasing.

Hope this helps.
I only have two secrets to success and happiness:

1. Don't tell anybody anything you know.

2.

Helped a lot sir! Very much appreciated!

My budget would range from 30k - 50k. I'm also open to pre-owned hardware systems as long as the items are in very good condition and mejo bago pa :)

Once I have listed down yung mga items cguro I'll post them tapos ask for feedbacks, then audition :)

Thank you again sir!

(modified area)

AVR that I might check:

Yamaha RX375 = 17k
Pioneer VSX523 = 16,990

or

Yamaha RX475 = 23k (Yamaha RX575 = 25k 7.2) ok kaya yung 2k na upgrade?
Pioneer VSX823 = 24,990

Are there other brands on the same price range? Anong Speakers kaya ang bagay dito?

Once I have selected yung speakers then off to audition!

i tested the marantz 1403 it is an excellent 5.1 receiver.   Demoed the unit and sounds good with the GoldenEar superset 3d.

In practical terms

For the reasons already expressed above, there is no strict and fast rule as to the exact audio amplifier power required for a specific room size. However, the rule of thumb is that for an average medium-to-large room size of 3000 cu. ft (15ft x 20ft x 10ft high), average speaker sensitivity of 87 dB/watt/m and a listening level that is in line with the THX reference of 85dB, an amplifier capable of delivering anything between 50W and 80W average power per channel should be able to deliver more than this desired level of loudness.

Taking this indicative figure for the average room and what we have stated when discussing loudness, then a small room of say 1000 cu. ft would require approximately 25W per channel average power, while a much larger 6000 cu. ft room needs 150W/Ch and even more, to achieve the same level of loudness using the same speaker sensitivity.

But as stated, these figures assume average speaker sensitivity and average listening loudness levels. If you fall within that category that like to listen at high levels of loudness - even if it is for just a small portion of the time - then you will have to possibly double the required audio amplifier power and even more. The reason is that as further expressed earlier on, doubling the amplifier power will only lead to a marginal increase in the effective loudness; you need a 10dB increase to perceive sound twice as loud.

Our living room is only about 9-12 sqm.

that's 97-129 sq ft. assuming 10 ft ceiling, room volume equals 970-1290 cu. ft.

if you have 87 dB/watt/m speakers, then an amp with 25W-35W/ch is enough, and 50W/ch is plenty. having a speaker with 90+ dB sensitivity would further help your amp.
...guaranteed to rock your world!

Thank you sir. I'm still in the process of studying those terms.

I think my speakers are too much for the room.

I eventually bought the Yamaha RX-V575, RTi A3, CSi A4 and DSW Pro 400.

My surrounds are just the speakers from my component and I check the ohms and watts, ok naman.

Right now, still in process of rearranging the room to maximize yung speakers :)

Thanks sa mga tumulong and feedbacks.

Will post a picture once done. :)

i have to agree on this but sabi nga nila, there is no such thing as overkill sa audio. yun nga lang, hindi mo ma-maximize ang full potential ng speakers. pero ang habol naman natin lahat is sound quality.

eto gamit ko for 12ft x 12ft x 9ft living room..

Receiver: Denon AVR-1906 (80W/ch)
Satellites: Polk Audio RM6801
Center: Polk Audio RM6902
Subwoofer: Polk Audio RM6800 SUB

volume ko for movie/music listening is usually -25dB to -15dB. the receiver max volume +13dB so napakalayo ko pa from max.

Thanks sir! Mejo nag eenjoy na talaga :D Although Kailangan ko mag re-arrange and supposedly, bibili na ako ng stands for the front speakers pero tignan ko pa rin muna kung ano yung maigi na arrangement para sa room namin.

Mejo sunog ako sa costs..

Yamaha RX-v575 = 25k
RTi A3 = 17k
CSi A4 = 11k
DSW Pro 400 = 10k

Now using 12 gauges for front and center, tapos naka biwire yung fronts. Naka LFE naman yung sub, I still have to study yung different settings to know which is a better setting for our room. Nakakatuwa kasi mejo madami rin akong natututunan.

All are from Sights and Sounds except the Subwoofer na galing kay sir Sanjay.

exactly :) Naginvest na rin ako para just incase. Mag add nalang. Gusto ko yung HT set mo sir. Ganyan din sana yung gusto ko kasi small lang room namin, sayang lang hindi ko natry mag audition ng ganyang mga speakers. Well suited sana yan para sa room namin.
