don't know exactly the model me nagbulong lang.....palagay ko yung pinaguusapan dito....
i think it had a lot to do with preference, pag meron ka nang na gustuhan na speaker
malamang ididisregard mo na yung another to justify your choice.... >:D >:D
normal human reaction....and it goes for all other things that we do or like.... >:D >:D >:D

Hi sir,

Yes of course I have my own music preference, but it doesn't mean that I'll probably disregard others since I have always been an objective person when it comes to the technical aspects. I know the technical limitations of my speakers, and know of others as well. But in the end, it all boils down whether you're happy or not, right? :)

And of course, the more speakers, the better, right? Hahaha

Hi RXV!

Where did you have your speaker terminal plates (W Acoustics) made? Thanks

there are shops in Bonondo that do hairline finish on aluminum,
then you can have it anodized champagne gold, or whatever color you like...
those in the business of making trophies can do these type of jobs...
decals can be made by shops along cm recto.....

Thanks everyone, I'm glad PDVDer's appreciate speaker art :)

@tony
Yes, marami nga dun sa Binondo.
But for the brushed aluminum, I just also DIY'ed it. Of course for the anodizing, wala na ako sa ganung powers :)

@Gino
APPJ ko lang masaya na ako. I really like the fact that I only need to replace one 12AX7 for tube rolling purposes :)

@JoeyGS
The enclosure is a modified Pensil version with full bracing and upgraded dampening. I chose to stick to an enclosure plan that's already proven to be perfect with the drivers :)

@Gino
Hindi lang "hand job", "back job" din :p

Do you have 2 drivers in each box? I saw 2 sets of speaker terminals and a switch. L-pad?

Yeah the L-Pad is placed for a future supertweeter built on top. Not really necessary, but supplemental

Sir tony, i think rxv uses the alpair paper cone driver, known to have than natural midrange presetation with limits on bass.  But the implementation of king on the box is superb having presence in the lows.  Hindi tunog kahoy resonance ung lows.  Maganda rendition.

What i admired here is the detail ng gawa.  Tyaga mo pre sa mga kurbada.  Also the grill, lintek ang pagkakagawa.  Hirap kaya i flush mount yan at magnetic pa.  Hahaha

True, i've heard 3 different MA driver models - Alpair 7.3, Alpair 10P & CHR-70.3A and wala ni isa ang may off-axis response issue or beaming. Off-axis response issue is related to beaming which is prominent in big FR driver cones; 10inches & up esp if you have a small room (22sqm or less) or listening position is less than 3mtrs from the speakers. Which can be addressed if you are using horns or wave guide, di ba sir Larry?  ;)

Correct. Beaming issue kadalasan sa bigger units as you go up in frequency. Pero tumapat ka lang sa center meron naman. :)

Kaya pag nasa sweet spot ka wala namang problema.

Pero meron akong cube na powered speaker na may more or less 1-5/8" driver. Ginagamit ko sa desktop. Ang liit nya pero mas malakas ang highs nya kapag pointing directly to me.

This is a good way to describe Alpair 10Ps presentation of sound. Like what I've been saying from the start of the thread; the Alpair 10Ps + pensil enclosure will not give you chest pounding bass instead it will render very good low level details, hiwa-hiwalay ang instruments producing low frequencies, not just "boom, boom, boom"

Hindi talaga "boxy" tumunog ang MA drivers basta within the specs ka sa materials & sundin mo yung box plans' internal dimensions ayos na  ;)

The problem is if the room is small, lumiliit din ang sweet spot because you can't move the speakers too far from each other since didikit na sa walls.

To site an example; a month ago I visited my kumpare who built a pair of 12" FR speakers, his room is 20sqm, typical room size of an average local household. When I lean towards either side of the chair (where the sweet spot is) & tip my head, pumapaling ang stereo imaging. I don't know if it's the room acoustics or the gear pero that's what I've observed. When I pointed it out to him, hindi nya daw napapansin na ganun.

Correct. Beaming issue kadalasan sa bigger units as you go up in frequency. Pero tumapat ka lang sa center meron naman. :)

+1 on this. Bass is very musical and bass notes are very distinct, as witnessed in Rebecca Pidgeon's Spanish Harlem (walang sawang Spanish Harlem haha). This is a driver designed for SQ and critical listening anyway

That track will flatter any system he he. Move away from your typical female audiophile cds to educate your ears. Look also into instruments. Realism is hard to achieve for all instruments.

Malamang he used that specific track for testing the bass, in some speakers I've heard esp the once with bass reflex enclosure may pagka-ngongo ang presentation ng bass. The first time I played that song with my 10Ps napangiti din ako, may "snap" and clear ang flow ng bass notes throughout the entire song. But I get what you're saying Gino  ;)

Bro, for some bass testing try to listen to "Brombo" by Brian Brombo & Akira Jimbo, tuloy tuloy ang panning ng drums & bass guitar

or "The Link" by Gojira, sarap ng oscillation ng double bass drums, makikita mo excursion ng cone ng 10P pero kayang kaya  ;)

Gino, that's what I thought :)
I just realized the importance of bass musicality when I listened to another system, and also in my car. Layo pala kapag iba iba ang bass notes as well as the bass depth, sa iba kasi halos malakas nga pero one-note-wonder lang ang tunog

i am glad to see people actually liking the Alpairs....

Sir Tony, I think the Alpairs (7) won in a blind shootout in the U.S. against 23 different drivers I think.
But small speaker category lang yata yung shootout (3-4" category yata).

When rxv brought his speakers im my home, we played bromo, daft punk and focal test disc.  Im also curious to see how it performs on extreme frequencies.  My findings-  it is abundant!  Hehehe

thanks,FWIW, i discussed the mark audio with moderators at diyaudio,
and almost all of then prefer the alpairs over the audio nirvanas.....
they just smiled at me when i told them that over here, the audio nirvanas were  hot...
many of them have used the audio nirvanas and said it was a decent speaker,
though they liked mark audio speakers better....
