Ang ganda nga! Kaya ba yan na stain finish? Timber, may nagawa ka nang stain finish using that?

Stain will not work well in this case brader... Grains run across each other and will absorb differently. Imo, it should be finished either the way it looks or painted (piano finish would be my preference).
Drawback in this build is the machine timeis way too much. 3 hours makes this build terribly costly and I am still looking at at least another 2 hours more. That is just for the face pa lang ha?!  Paano pa if decide to make the enclosure complicated as well... So maybe baka simple na lang.

Is it because the driver is flush mounted?

Not only that brader, the face itself is also curved kasi. I wanted the front portion to be clear from the driver opening. The curve naman, well I want it to provide less resistance when sound is reflected back into it (if that even matters :) ) plus aesthetic na rin....

It's a good plan, kayang kaya mo yan with the way you're taking the time now to research & prepare your audio projects. MA drivers aren't expensive so you can build all three at the price of a pair of high end FR drivers from other manufacturers  ;)

Sir, i grew up with my brother having speakers in every room in the house. Even in toilet & laundry area. We went to sleep with the music on. He built amplifiers & speakers from Raon, while i was into a band.

To answer your question:
*Listening Room - Alpair-10P-A or 12P [FS]
*Bedroom Room - CHP-70A-P [BS]
*Den/Work        - Alpair-7A Gold[Monitor]

Libre naman mangarap ;D

Curved ala KEF LS50? If you are worried about edge diffraction, the size of the front baffle is small to have such an effect but aesthetics wise it would really look good!

hats off to you master woodworker  8)

May I ask why it takes so long to machine-cut your enclosure? CnC ba yan or mano-mano lang? Di ba dapat minutes lang dapat kung CnC? Or is there something that I do not know?

CNC yan, but as in any routing process, the depth of cut is distributed in several passes instead of one pass. Plus Timbs is cutting in 3 dimensions (not to be confused with 3D), he's cutting in X, Y and Z axis. The machine has to be slowed down because of the material and the tool head. Too much feedrate is bad for the work piece.

If this where a plasma head and a sheet metal work piece then it would be lightning fast.

Ironically... slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

Oh yes, I now understand. Nagulat lang ako kasi inabot ng 3 hours ang front face pa lang. It must be that extensive.

That was one of my goals before when I built my CNC. But now, I sometimes mill circuit boards for hours din sir, time is a factor in the quality of work kasi.

Some would say... "bakit ka pa nag CNC kung matagal din pala?"

The simplest answer is precision, and it's a repeatable process too.

Ang sagot ko nga minsan... "sige subukan mo mag etch ng mano-mano na 0.5mm pitch..." ;D ;D ;D

Besides, you can do other things while the CNC is working like read FHM magazines etc... >:D

depende din kasi sa klase ng cnc machine. yung malalaking precision cnc machine, kayang kaya pabilisin yan. syempre, depende din sa materyales na i ma machine.

Ah sa youtube.... Baka 2d cut ang nakita mo.... 3d cuts move half a millimiter per pass for finishing cuts. For roughing, it varies. Pwede aggressive pwede rin conservative. Since this is my second time cutting 3d, conservative cut was my choice. Both bits and the material is quite pricey and I prefer not to break them. Until I get more proficient then maybe then it could be faster.

Going back to youtube here is the difference...
2.5d cuts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wzSjsmbrfU
3d cuts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLWc4OYZGQc
This one carved out a face.... It only took 3 days of cutting at 24 hours a day.

Wow, lupit pala ng 3d cut.

I also did a similar shaping to wood, mano-mano lang nga at 1" thick lang hahaha. And destroyed my back :)

Excited to see your build soon

The secret to caring for the back is a correct height work table and pacing. Table should be high enough so you don't have to bend as much. It must be low enough so that you can apply necessary body weight for the task. These may be several table.

I told JojoD818 that a standing desk is ideal for long hours of soldering. Rest when the legs are tired. Better the legs than the back.

Pacing is another thing. We DIYers tend to finish the job asap. REST and HYDRATE. Rest before your body hurts. Just like in running, we have to walk sometimes. Same with DIY.

Yun na nga problem sa akin Gino. When it comes to work, minsan I neglect my body na, puro focus sa job at hand, ayun, tinatamaan tuloy ang katawan. But at least I'm happy with my DIY'ing hahaha.
That's the reason why I wasn't able to finish my enclosure finishing before, tinamaan likod ko, so I was forced to rest for a long time, hanggang sa naging busy na at lahat haha

Would anyone know where to get MA drivers in Hong Kong? I emailed them early this week and haven't gotten a reply. Really keen to try them out. Thanks!

Owner developed health and forum social issues. Look for 3rd party resellers.
