Yeah, that's the plan. KIA wants Paquiao to draw the fans to their team. I don't think it's the right idea, though.

"kamatis" ang labas nya. parang boksing lang, may hype. hay*p talaga hehehe...

if ever man, palagay ko meron talagang head coach and kung sakali mang head coach man sya, sa malamang sa mga unang ilang laro lang.

wait and see... kung kakayanin nyang makahatak ng crowd for the team and if so for how long...

KIA wants impact entry to the PBA with Pacquiao as endorser, coach and player.
Sad to say khit makulelat un team KIA eh the gates will still be filled and TV ratings sky high during KIA games.

I think it's just a temporary arrangement maybe just 1 conference since Pacquiao is gona be busy in politics and when he starts training for his upcoming fights.

Just when you thought you've seen every kind of scam in the PBA ....... here comes the Pacman as playing-coach, no less ! WTF !

If this holds true, this proves that KIA isn't serious at all with competing ..... para itong sina Eddie Gil, Elly Pamatong, etc.

Kung may 3 Farm Team ...... meron namang KIA = Nuisance Team.

Manny Pacquiao says he has reached deal to be playing coach of new PBA team Kia Motors

FROM boxing champion to television host to congressman to pastor and now to basketball playing coach in the PBA.

Global boxing icon Manny Pacquiao said on Thursday he has reached an agreement to be the playing coach of Kia Motors when the expansion team makes its debut in the PBA on October 21.

“Yes, maglalaro ako sa PBA sa October. Playing coach ako (Yes, I'll play in the PBA this October. I'll be a playing-coach),” the eight-division world boxing champion told Spin.ph.

Pacquiao, 35, said the agreement was reached during a meeting with Ginia Domingo, head of Columbia Autocar Corp., distributor of Kia vehicles in the country, at the Pacific Star Hotel past noon on Thursday.

“Nag-usap na kami, wala pang pirmahan ng contract pero okay na kami (We've already talked. We haven't signed a contract but we've agreed in principle),” Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao bared he has long idolized basketball legend Robert Jaworski and now wants to emulate his playing-coach role with Ginebra in the eighties and nineties as he makes his foray into professional basketball.

Asked what he can bring to the table as a PBA coach, the hard-hitting boxer expressed confidence that he is equipped with enough coaching knowledge since he has been playing the same role in different minor leagues he has played with his Team Pacquiao touring team.

To listen to podcast of full interview with Manny Pacquiao, click HERE

The plan, though, still faces a roadblock since the PBA board had earlier shot down a motion to allow Kia and two other expansion teams - Blackwater Sports and NLEX - to directly tap players from the rookie ranks.

Under those guidelines, Pacquiao may have to go through the PBA rookie draft on August 24 to be able to suit up as the oldest rookie in the 39-year history of Asia's first professional basketball league.

However, Pacquiao expressed confidence that he may not need to go through the draft if he is a playing-coach of Kia.

“'Yung rules naman daw nila, pag playing-coach pwedeng lumaro sa team (They say the rules allow you to play for a team if you're a playing coach),” he said. “So 'yun ang aming pinag-aaralan ngayon (So that's what we're looking at right now).”

Pacquiao said he is set to sign a contract with Columbia Motors soon so he can start putting the pieces together for the team's first season in the pro league.

“Sa July pa naman ang (dispersal) draft,” said Pacquiao, a basketball nut who plays hoops as part of his cross training, even in the weeks leading up to his bouts.

Pacquiao also assured the plan to suit up in the PBA has already been cleared with his promoter, Top Rank big boss Bob Arum, who has reportedly extended his boxing promotional contract until 2016.

“Wala namang problema 'yan. Walang problema 'yan (It won't be problem with Arum),” he said when asked about the set-up with his longtime promoter.

Asked about fears raised by fans that his stint in the PBA may end up ruining his boxing career, Pacquiao said: “Coach lang naman ako. Maglalaro ako minsan, pero marami namang mga players eh. Importante manalo (I'm just a coach. I'll play once in a while, but there are a lot of players. The important thing is we win).”

Kia Motors, a Korean car company with major sponsorships in sports like tennis and football, has been silent about its plans since its application for a new PBA franchise was accepted last month.

A planned press conference on Thursday by Kia at the NBA Cafe in SM Aura was also cancelled for unknown reasons

Massive revamp of Ginebra coaching staff as Olsen Racela set to join incoming coach Jeff Cariaso

Why can't they reach an agreement with the BIG J?
Those coach shuffling experiments will never ever work for them.

perhaps because Jaworski openly declared that he will accept the coaching job only if he has complete control. SMC does not want having two coaches/teams they can't manipulate.

going to pacman. he should just join the draft. no one would dare pick him from the draft. there will definitely be an unwritten rule that only Kia can pick pacman.

Jebus ..... I listened to the recent podcast interview with Pacquiao, regarding his announcement to be KIA's playing-coach - parang bata ang kausap nung interviewer.

That was three minutes of my life that I will never get back again.  ;D

But it will be a Dream come true for Pacman to be Pro.
Another crowd drawer will be his mom Mommy Dionisia so it's definitely a WIN WIN for KIA's grand entrance to the PBA.

No disputing the fact that it will be a dream come true for Pacquiao. Everyone knows this.

But the elephant in the room - there are thousands of other ballers much worthier of a PBA slot than Pacquiao ...... there are hundreds of coaches much worthier of a PBA head-coaching gig than Pacquiao.

There is ZERO logical explanation should KIA go with this ..... except for marketing purposes, as everyone suspects.

Anne Curtis doesnt know how to sing, yet that doesn't stop her from staging concerts.  ;D

Pacquiao didnt asked for it, he was offered and of course he cant resist the offer since it's his dream to play in the PBA like his idol Jawo.
KIA games will be filled and be treated as exhibition games.
I wonder how other teams will play them seriously specially if Pacquiao is on the court.
It's gonna be Laugh, Laugh, Laugh.

San Mig just too much for TNT.
Pingris taking on Alapag and Castro while other San Mig players deny all passing lanes, very very good defense by San Mig forcing many turn overs.

No other team will draft him. Here's the problem if MP joins the draft:

1. Sayang ang draft pick. KIA will be wasting a first round draft pick on him.

2. Nakakahiya naman kay MP kung 6th or 7th round pa sya ma-pick because of reason #1

Makikilala PBA internationally. KIA is already a sponsor in the NBA, mukhang naka focus sa basketball ang company na 'yun.

Exactly ...... it will turn into a circus, as Pacquiao knows neither coaching nor playing pro-level basketball.

Sa bagay, Pacquiao can't sing a note or act if he's life depended on it - yet that doesn't stop him from making records and films.

Like I said, isama na sa KIA line-up sina Vice Ganda, Vhong Navarro, Bayani Agbayani, etc para sagarin ang kalokohan.

Agree with coach Yeng...
Sobrang dehado naman yung three new teams kung puro bench warmers and pagpipilian nila...
Sana man lang kahit tatlong direct hires payagan nang PBA Board...

Given the proper exposure, those so called "Bench Warmers" will be able to develop their confidence thus improve their levels of play and eventually become "Stars" in their own rights.
There are so many players in the Philippines but because of only a few teams in the PBA, they simply cant excel but with 3 more teams added, 36-45 players will be given chances to show their worth playing in the PBA.

Yeah but sana the PBA board would allow direct hires para sa start maging competitive na yung new teams. Kasi tama si Yeng Guiao na malamang 4 years pa madedevelop yan...

"Why pay P100 million (franchise fee) only to be clobbered for three to four years?"

I completely agree with Yeng Guiao ...... the least the PBA could have given the new teams, is grant them direct-hire/s to start their franchises rolling and hopefully compete.

Let's call a spade, a spade ...... the reason Comm. Cheato Salud and majority of the PBA board did not grant direct-hire privileges to the new teams, is the fact that there is a bumper crop of blue-chippers for the next draft and beyond e.g. Banchero, Parks, Alas, Lanete, Pascual, Ganuelas, Pringle (if eligible), etc.

Nagtataka pa ba ang mga tao - year after year after year, matataas palagi ang draft picks ng SMCorp despite always finishing in the upper-half of the standings?

Cone was trying to make a point. Their main guys were listless. They were just going through the motions. They got totally outplayed by TNT. Mas maganda pa laro ng bench nila like Melton and Sangalang.
