Previously available in Europe and now making their US debut is a handsome and ultra-affordable trio of Rotel components;the Euro-Series RA-02 integrated amplifier, RCD-02 CD player, and RT-02 tuner. Not only are they attractive and operable by remote, these pieces were also designed with an audiophile's attention to high-performance. For example, the 40Wpc RA-02 integrated amp uses high-quality internal parts;metal film resistors, for example, and polystyrene and polypropylene capacitors in key areas of the signal path. LP lovers have not been forgotten, either. In addition to three line-level inputs and a tape loop, the unit supplies a moving-magnet phono input, in addition to a tone-defeat switch and preamp outputs. This latter feature allows the RA-02 to be used as a preamplifier to drive a separate, more powerful amplifier.
The single-disc RCD-02 CD player appears equally serious, with an 18-bit Delta-Sigma DAC, 8x oversampling, and HDCD decoding. Finally, the RT-02 features manual, auto-search, frequency-direct, and 30-station preset tuning, RBDS (Radio Broadcast Data Service), stereo/mono switching, and a 12-volt trigger for use with other Rotel gear.
New from Rotel are the RSX-1065 A/V receiver (bottom) and RDV-1080 DVD-V/DVD-A player .
Rotel RMB-1095 power amplifier, a particularly juicy item and a wonderful companion to the RSP-985.
This handsome hunk of equipment pumps out 200 watts into each of the five channels (8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, less than 0.03% Total Harmonic Distortion), and that's puh-lenty.
It seems almost silly to talk about an amplifier being handsome, since most of them are basically plain boxes with heat sinks on them to dissipate energy, but in the case of the RMB-1095 it's appropriate. This is, indeed a big black box with heat sinks, but Rotel has still managed to make it an attractive big black box.
Not that it really matters, but it's a little thing that shows Rotel's attention to detail; and you can use it to impress your friends if you're into such superficialities.
Rotel says the amp's power supply is built around two 1.2 kVA toroid transformers; its publicity material also claims that eight x 22,000 uf British-made BHC slit foil capacitors (for storage capacity) and 30 x 150 watt/15 amp ;output devices; combine to give uncompressed reproduction of the most dynamic source material.
Rotel's top CD player is now the RCD991AE. The newly upgraded CD player is a massively built player with HDCD and optional dither settings in the digital filtering.
