one of the worst performances i have ever seen.  Spain was lazy and boring.  They had no chance as soon as they went down 1-0 early in the 1st half.

Spain are out. They join an illustrious list of defending champs that made an early exit.
Practically the entire team seemed tired, probably due to a very taxing season with their clubs.

Spain also earned the dubious distinction of making the earliest exit from a World Cup by a defending champion in history. No defending champions have ever been eliminated after only two games of the first phase.

Wow shocker, the top ranked team is out. That makes Germany the new favorite to lift the trophy. They and the Dutch have had the best showing so far.

it was a close fight between the Netherlands and the Socceroos (Australia). but in the latter part, the orange team prevailed. the match ended with a score of 3-2.  :D

Very disappointed with Spain. Somehow without Puyol the defense is poor.

England technically still has a chance.

That's not a surprise. With the bigger teams, players are typically stars for the biggest clubs and play a lot more matches in a year than the rest.

This is why you see defending champions usually falling short at World Cups.  After winning the cup, their players become stars and are immediately snatched up by the biggest clubs, ergo, get much much busier match and media schedules.

Spain was supposed to be the exception but instead have spectacularly bombed out of this World Cup.

That Uruguay striker Luis Suarez is really good.

The poor center backs of england make him look even better.

Not convinced by Argentina.  They were lucky to beat Iran (though Iran played really good).

Watching Germany-Ghana now.  Germany is the best team I've seen so far.  Deep bench, great defense smoothly transitioning to fast break offense, best goalie of the WC in Neuer.

I posted the above with the score 0-0 at halftime. Then it started raining goals, 2-2 now with 20 minutes to go. Miroslav Klose just tied Ronaldo's record for most WC goals scored. When you have a Klose and a Bastian Schweinsteiger as substitutes, you really have a deep bench.

wasn't able to watch the match. but it was a draw at 2-2. Germany is still ahead with its points haul from Portugal.

Ghana really played a great offensive game. Doing what Germany does - quick transitions from defense to running attacks.  Magaling yung Ayew.

Messi pala favors his left foot for his shots. This great curled shot was similar to but longer than his first goal. Also uses the left during free kicks.

Sounds like an exciting 2nd half.  I just caught the tail end the of 1st half before having to leave for work, with Portugal leading 1-0.  Am delighted that the USA gave them a run for their money and almost won.

Still an impressive run by the USA in probably the toughest group of the 1st round.
