Oh my! What an embarrassing predicament!  And who the hell finalized the event without getting an NBA approval first?

Hahaha i knew it! Tiningnan ko actually yung ad and yun nga, walang specific na sinabing may scrimmage. May lusot based on technicality

general admission is 750, at yung most expensive seat is almost 30k ... title is last home stand of Gilas ... and they expect people to watch a drill?

On Twitter: @INQUIRERSports: UPDATE:PLDT said this was exactly what was planned. "In our print ads, we never said there would be a game"

Nagkakabolahan na.

Sa print ads wala sigurong sinabing may "game", pero sa SMS ads meron. Ang malas ng mga bumili ng mamahaling tiket  :(

PLDT should have coordinated with Solar.  Solar Entertainment yata ang Philippiine partner ng NBA.  Kulang sa homework yun organizers.  I am not part of the organizing team but my first instinct is to seek a permit from the NBA.  Laking lugi ng PLDT siguro dito.  Because the players I believe still get paid, still booked in the hotel and will still be sponsored the rest of their stay.  Tapos walang balik na pera sa organizers through tv ads, ticket sales and game sponsorships.

What a mess!

Quote from: TJ Manotoc
PLDT's Ariel Fermin indeed announced a refund would be available to fans unhappy with the "practice". a hotline # would be flashed on screen

#GilasLastHomeStand refund hotline numbers 836-5318, 836-5319, & 836-5890 http://instagram.com/p/qwmJ24S1cO/

PLDT's Fermin: seeking a refund: send: 1) Full name; 2) ticket #; 3) contact # 4) email add sms to 09196140865 or email [email protected]

The ten-digit ticket number can be found at left portion of the ticket, below the seat number.

MVP heads both PLDT and the SBP, for such institutions to be remiss on following pro-sports rules ...... and add the fact that they tried to make a last minute spin on things, by saying that no game was actually advertised.

Someone needs to get fired from his job.

Rappler posted this clip of the event organizer (East West) explaining that they (including PLDT) never advertised this as a game:

http://youtu.be/ojMr9PoPDm0

Decepticon ba 'to?! If they never intended to have the fans think that there was going to be a full game, it should have been very clear in their ads - like in bold, all caps text: "THIS IS NOT AN EXHIBITION GAME". Di yata mahirap gawin 'yun. With how they were harping about this event since it was announced, no question that they wanted the fans to believe that it was going to be a full game like the one they had here during the lockout. Kawawa rin 'yung Gilas players. Sayang ang opportunity.

It's good that PLDT (through MVP) eventually issued a formal apology for this mess. But yeah, someone really has to be held accountable for this. I can see a lawsuit brewing. Laki ng lugi ng PLDT dito. Yahoo (through Adrian Wojnarowski) mentioned that each player was paid an average of USD150K for their trip here, plus other expenses. And that's just the players' "talent fees".

I also recall that NBA players could join exhibition games during the offseason. Zo's Summer Groove is one example (don't know if they still hold this though). This doesn't seem like it's an official NBA event and it's for charity. Maybe the new CBA clamped down on this.
We deserve better.

Bawal na ba talaga ang exhibition games or dapat may go signal lang ng NBA?  because I recall all sorts of summer leagues where NBA players dress up and play.  I think even KD has his own little league.

Baka nga because of the CBA, bawal by default unless the NBA approves. If so, another sign that this was poorly handled is the alleged last-minute advice obtained by the organizers from the NBA that the event cannot push through without penalizing the players. Plantsado na dapat 'yan by Day 1. I assume the organizers prioritized this, so it's still confusing to me why it ended up with a last-minute scrapping of the event.

^ Sa tono ng apology statement ng PLDT, hugas-kamay na tapos turo sa IGW (or East West). Mukang madedemanda nga.

You are most probably right.

I think the Charity twist was just thought of by the spin doctors to soften the blow to the public.  I'm pretty certain that if the organizers told the NBA that this was for the benefit of Yolanda and Glenda victims on day one, the NBA wouldnt sanction the players.  The theme would be very much in tune with the NBA cares activity so free advertising pa sila.

Kahit na the organizers exercised due diligence and submitted all the requirements, common sense still dictates NBA approval.  Submit a summary that all requirements have been met.... but still require a written approval from the NBA.  Tingin ko lahat were done under assumptions.  They think they met all the requirements so tingin nila ok na siguro even if they didn't seek approval.

Based on the article, the events organizer claims that the event was packaged as a basketball clinic ...... while eveyone else here in the country (including Chot Reyes & the endless plugs during PBA games) expected a full game.

Then as the scandal unfolded, PLDT claims that that they never advertised an actual game happening - then they did a full about-face the next day on their open letter, claiming that there was a full game agreement with the events organizer.

Somebody is obviously lying ...... from PLDT.

Despite the refund, kawawa pa din yung mga bumili sa scalper at yung mga nanggaling sa malayong lugar para manood.
