I fully agree, that some more compensation should be given aside from the refund.

OT: Tuso talaga itong PLDT ..... they claim that a full game was never specifcially advertised, offered a refund, pero pathetically paulit-ulit (even using GILAS players) na sinasabi na "for charity" ito - umaasa na baka merong hindi na magpa-refund.

NBA warns Blake Griffin, James Harden, more not to play in Philippines
by Bryan Rose 4h ago Follow @NotoriousEZE

The league has shown a bit of leniency in the past and has occasionally turned a blind eye to offseason tournaments if the proceeds were going to a good cause, however it’s believed that Manila will keep all of the profits from the game which the league is understandably upset over.

Yahoo Sports reports some players were set to make over $150,000 dollars for an appearance.

Looks like the NBA doesn't believe the event was really for charity but a business venture.

Eto mismo sa NBA / NBAPA Collective Bargaining Agrrement (CBA)

(a)  No player may play in any public off-season basketball game,summer league, or public exhibition or competition of basketball skills (e.g.,  a slam dunk contest or a “tour” organized by an NBA business partner)(each a “Basketball Event”) unless such Basketball Event is approved in writing by the NBA for NBA player participation and complies with the terms and conditions of this Section 3. The NBA will consider an off-season Basketball Event for approval only if a request for such approval is submitted in writing to the NBA, and only if the arrangements made with respect to any such off-season Basketball Event are confirmed in writing to the NBA and satisfy the following requirements, in addition to such other reasonable requirements as the NBA may impose:

(i)  General Requirements
.
(1)  The Basketball Event takes place on or after July 1,but in no event later than September 15 (or, in the case of a summer league, September 1);
(2)  Prior to the Basketball Event, each participating player receives the express written consent of his Team to participate in the Basketball Event;
(3)  The person(s) organizing the Basketball Event obtains disability insurance for the benefit of each participating player’s Team, in an amount acceptable to the NBA (provided, however, that this requirement shall not apply to summer leagues); and
(4)  The names and logos of the NBA and/or any NBA Team are not used or referred to in connection withthe Basketball Event, unless the NBA provides express written authorization for such use.

(ii)  Additional Charitable Game Requirements
.
The NBA will consider an off-season charitable game for approval only if, in addition to the general requirements set forth in Section 3(a)(i) above and such other reasonable requirements as the NBA may impose, the arrangements made with respect to such charitable game also satisfy the following:

(1)  The Players Association approves the game (which approval shall not be unreasonably withheld)
(2)  All proceeds from the sale of tickets to the game are used for charitable purposes;
(3)  The game is officiated by NBA referees assigned by the NBA to officiate the game. The person or entity organizing the game will be responsible for paying the officiating fees and the actual expenses incurred for the referees’ lodging and transportation to and from the referees’ homes to the site of the game;
(4)  There is at least one (1) NBA Team trainer and at least one (1) physician present at the game;
(5)  The name or likeness of an NBA player is not used,or referred to, in advertisements or promotions for or related to the game, except that if the organizer of the game is an NBA player, such organizer-player’s name or likeness may be used, or referred to, in such advertisements or promotions;
(6)  Only current or former professional basketball players participate in the game;
(7)  The game is not accompanied by an exhibition or competition of basketball skills (such as a slam dunk contest), unless such exhibition or competition has been separately approved in writing by the NBA and the Players Association;
(8.)  Participating players are not paid or compensated (in excess of per diem and actual reasonable expenses incurred in traveling to and participating in the game);
(9)  The organizer guarantees that the game will produce at least $100,000 for charity, and, if directed by the NBA and the Players Association, the organizer (or a third party if the organizer itself is a charity) posts security for such amount in a form satisfactory to the NBA and the Players Association which grants the NBA and/or the Players Association the right to sue to recover such amount for the benefit of the charity;

========================================

Yun reported $150k for the 2 day event to be paid sa players... labag na kagad sa CBA.

I witnnessed this event failed last night sa araneta  (Got a GA free ticket).

May pailaw pa sa opening hehe.

Dapat sinabi na ng maaga pa o before the event.  I arrived at 7pm nagstart ng opening ceremonies around 8:30pm na at nagannounced ng cancelled sina coach chot at refund then may video si blake griffin apology na no show some fans who bought the ringside ticket disappointed na dahil no george,pierce at griffin na diba...then cancelled at all drills nalang nawatched nila for (23k)

Mga 1hr yun so nainip na mga fans pati ako na nasa GEN admin some of them hindi masyado narinig na cancelled dahil hindi na clear ang sounds sa taas kahit ako no idea na cancelled hehe... some fans shouting "tama na yan laro na"  "boo refund" "scammed"  so I thought part of the warm-up yun at maya pa scrimmage naiinip na din ako 9-930 drills pa din many people already going out the araneta mga lovers disappointed napagastos pa ata hehe... 9:30pm I decided to go home na lang din maulan pa naman at hassle sa mga may kids talaga last night :)

btw, sharing info I got from PLDT's side:

Around 5pm na daw officially pinaalam ng NBA na di pwede yung "game" (still mali ng organizers!). Yung NBA players daw were okay getting fined by the NBA but when they were threatened with suspensions, dun na daw umatras yung players.

Pero sabi babawi daw (knee jerk reaction lang siguro to and most likely magbabago pa) by getting NBA players (again. lol!) and letting them actually play. Free entrance daw for those with PLDT and Smart subscriptions. I don't know when or how they are going to pull a rabbit out of a hat pero hopefully they pull this off to redeem themselves from this issue.

Official statement from the NBA:

“Under the terms of the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, players are allowed to participate in offseason basketball games or exhibitions when requirements for those events are met, including ensuring that appropriate safeguards be in place, and the promoter seeks the proper exemptions from the NBA and the player’s team. The promoter of this proposed event, East-West Private LLC, was informed of this process several months ago but did not take the required steps. Filipinos are among the most passionate basketball fans in the world and we are committed to bringing them more access to our game and supporting the ongoing Typhoon Haiyan rehabilitation efforts.”
We deserve better.

NBA issues statement on ‘Last HOME Stand’ event, says promoter failed to meet requirements
http://www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/nba-issues-statement-on-last-home-stand-event-says-promoter-failed-to-meet-requirements

The NBA released a statement on Wednesday regarding it’s involvement in the cancellation of the expected five-on-five game between a number of their players and the Philippine national men’s basketball team in the PLDT Home charity event ‘Last Home Stand’ on Tuesday night.

The league said that the promoter of the charity event, East-West Private LLC, did not take the necessary steps for the players to be allowed to fully participate in a basketball game.

“Under the terms of the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, players are allowed to participate in offseason basketball games or exhibitions when requirements for those events are met, including ensuring that appropriate safeguards be in place, and the promoter seeks the proper exemptions from the NBA and the player’s team,” the NBA said in the statement.

“The promoter of this proposed event, East-West Private LLC, was informed of this process several months ago but did not take the required steps.”

The NBA added, though, that they continued to recognize the Philippines as an important part of their fanbase.

“Filipinos are among the most passionate basketball fans in the world and we are committed to bringing them more access to our game and supporting the ongoing Typhoon Haiyan rehabilitation efforts.”

In a press conference last night, Maria Espaldon of East-West said that the group believed they did not need league approval from the league because it was a charity event.

“For a charity event in the NBA, there are sanctioned and unsanctioned events. For example, there are games where players play for the love of the game and they do it for charity,” Espaldon said.

“When we proposed this to the organization, PLDT, we said it should be a for-charity event and it did not need to be sanctioned. That was our belief. That’s generally what happens in the US. There are games everywhere that they play, some are sanctioned and some are not.”

Third-party agency admits NBA declined request for sanction on Gilas event as early as April

THE third-party agency that helped PLDT arrange the scrapped 'Last Home Stand' event featuring Gilas Pilipinas and a team of NBA stars admitted that a request for a sanction was turned down by the US league. East West CEO Maria Espaldon, A US-based Filipina events organizer, admitted that as early as April, the NBA has already turned down their request for a sanction of the two-game event in Manila.

I think these two should man up and take the blame - Ariel Fermin, PLDT Home Executive Vice President and Head for Home Business and Maria Espaldon, President of East West Private.

I watched the youtube eat bulaga guesting. The emcees Ryan Agoncillo et al kept on repeating "goodluck to the game!" Eat Bulaga know they're supposed to have a game. But to be fair, coach John Lucas and the NBA stars never mentioned about a game, instead just said that they were happy and excited to be here, helping out team Gilas. They never mentioned about a game.

Hmmm, naloko pati eat bulaga.

Pretty good roster w/ a great coach

SG: Monta Ellis, Ricky Ledo
SF: Chandler Parsons, Al-Farouq Aminu, Richard Jefferson, Jae Crowder
PF: Dirk Nowitzki,Brandan Wright, Eric Griffin

Parsons was overpriced, but still a good offseason for the MAVS.

If Chandler can have a resurgent season & Parsons live up to even half of his annual salary, I can see these MAVS reaching the 2nd round of the playoffs.
