Kenneth Faried has reached agreement on a five-year, $60 million extension with the Denver Nuggets, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Way too much $$$ for an undersized PF.

Every decent, serviceable big will be overpaid at one time or another, during his NBA career.

Compared to many who have been overpaid before him, I'd say that Faried's contract isn't too much  ........ besides, Faried definitely stands-out due to his attitude and work ethic.

$12M/year for someone everyone expects to breakout within the next few years should be a "decent" contract in today's NBA.

Yeah!  I do think it's a decent starter salary for Faried.  I think he has more or less the same stats as Al Horford at $12M but with more durability.  He likewise contributes the same as David West who is also at $12M.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Larry Sanders gets $11M, Nikola Pekovic at $12M, Eric Gordon at $15M, Omer Asik at $15M, Andrea Bargnani at $12M, Gordon Hayward $14M and Derrick Favors $13M.

But Faried has none of the big men characteristics that teams usually overpay for -- rim protection, floor spacing and size.

Shaw didn't even trust him that much in the first half of last season. He only got major playing time when the Nuggets were slowly slipping out of contention.

I'm assuming that the contract is an indication that the management assumes that the new NBA media deal is gonna massively inflate the salary cap in the upcoming years.

Horford and West are among the best defenders and floor spacers in their position. Faried isn't on their level, well not yet.

16-24 ft. shooting% (2013-14)
West .520%
Horford .496%
Faried .245%

Other bigs you mentioned.
Larry Sanders - rim protector w/ a huge wingspan. Had one of the worst seasons by someone who just signed a new contract but still highly coveted.
Nikola Pekovic - Not a floor spacer or rim protector. Contract may be difficult to move if the Wolves decide to invest on Dieng
Omer Asik - Rim protector. Backloaded but good contract
Andrea Bargnani - back end of a bad contract.
Derrick Favors - too early to tell. Overpaid for his size and potential. But unlike Faried, he's not a 6'6 PF.

Advanced stats on Faried last season was already comparable to both Horford's & West's careers.

Faried has a PER of 19.8 last season, TS% of .573, TRB% of 16.9 , ORtg of 116, DRtg of 104, 80 games played.... compared to...
Horford career PER of 18.7, TS% of .572, TRB% of 16.3, ORtg of 114, DRtg of 104, 29 games played last season
West career PER of 18.9, TS% of .542, TRB% of 13.1, ORtg of 109, DRtg of 104, 80 games played last season

Larry Sanders - Too one-dimensional.  PER of 14.0, TS% of .478 which is awful for a big, ORtg of 101, DRtg of 100
Nikola Pekovic - TRB% of 15.3, BLK% of 1.1 despite being 7ft (Faried is 2.3)
Omer Asik - PER of 14.0, ORtg of 105, DRtg of 100
Andrea Bargnani - PER of 14.4, TRB% of 9.5

Ah, so advanced stats pala ang basis ng comparison mo kay Faried, West at Horford.

Pwede ring isama si Brandan Wright/Andray Blatche sa listahan:
Brandan Wright PER of 23.7, TS% of .695, TRB% of 13.9, ORtg of 135, DRtg of 107
Andray Blatche (2012-13) PER of 21.9, TS% of .547, TRB% of 15.8, ORtg of 107, DRtg of 101

GOAT
Deandre Liggins PER of 129.1 , TS% of 1.000., TRB% of 62.8, ORtg of 205, DRtg of 116

Kenneth Faried’s contract extension, as reported, would violate CBA

Quote
Kenneth Faried didn’t sign a five-year, $60 million contract extension.

He couldn’t have.

Despite Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reporting the contrary, extensions to rookie-scale contracts – with one exception – can be for just four seasons. The exception is when a team makes someone its designated player by giving him a five-year extension to a rookie-scale deal, but designated players must receive a max salary and 7.5 percent annual raises.

For Faried to be the Nuggets’ designated player, based on the NBA’s projected 2015-16 salary cap, his five-year extension would be worth about $89 million – far more than the reported $60 million.

So, something is getting lost in translation here.

Here are three possibilities for the actual terms:

Five-year, $89 million extension

Maybe Wojnarowski has the number of years correct and the dollar amount wrong.

Faried will make $2,249,768 this season, the final year of his rookie deal. His extension would begin in 2015-16, a season with a yet-to-be-determined cap.

Any max contract extension does not have a known salary until the July before that season begins. Perhaps, $60 million was just a really poor estimate of a five-year max contract contract that begins in 2015-16.

Four-year, $60 million

Maybe Wojnarowski has the dollar amount correct and the number of years wrong.

Again, simple enough, just one incorrect figure.

A four-year extension is the longest legal extension under the max – and $60 million should fall under the four-year max, which projects to be $68,985,747.

Four-year, $57,750,232 extension

Maybe Wojnarowski was referring to the total value of Faried’s contract – one season on the rookie deal, four seasons on the extension.

If that’s the case, Faried’s extension would be $57,750,232 over four years ($60 million minus his 2014-15 salary of $2,249,768 ).

That means his average annual salary during the extension would be $14,437,558 – a healthy bump over the $12 million per year it seemed Denver would be paying him.

This is my best guess for the mix up, but it’s just a guess.

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/10/06/kenneth-farieds-contract-extension-as-reported-would-violate-cba/

So it's potentially up to 14.4M/yr? That's a heck of a contract   :o

Great to see Kobe in action today. :) hope he stays healthy. Defense still needs a lot of work.

Loved Ed Davis on D. Tama nga si Kobe parang pogo stick siya. Sipag sa D.

Randle naman showed glimpses of his skills. Malayo mararating basta magpursige.

Clarkson din ok. Lalong nakakapanghinayang na di nakuha ng gilas.
