I'm looking for a receiver that is compact size
« on: Aug 01, 2014 at 06:53 AM »
All of the receivers I've seen are huge and heavy.  Are there any that that are about half in size and weight?  I'm looking for a 5.1 receiver that can decode truehd and dts-hd, with a dimension of 12 inch by 12 inch.

Receivers are almost always about 17 inches / 430mm wide and typically 3-4 rack units tall.
I believe your best option would be slimline receivers which are about 2RU tall. Marantz and yahama have such models

Your best bet is a Marantz NR unit, but still almost as wide as other receivers. There are smaller home theater in a box kits and micro component systems with poor specifications and offers none of the connectivity for future upgrades or changes to equipment that a standard A/V receiver would have, if you're willing to take that route.
