5.1 vs. 7.1
« on: Aug 29, 2014 at 12:01 PM »
I am setting up a home theater room in my man cave.  Size is approximately 6m x 4m.  Would you suggest a 7.1 set up against a 5.1?  For the size of the room, I think a 5.1 is enough but I want to hear opinions of others so I can run extra speaker wires since it is still under construction.  Thanks.

Lance

@24sqm, a 7.2 system will be much better or if your av receiver can do front height/wide, you may opt to go for a full 9.2. :D

Since its a new room and quite long at 6m then i think you can benefit from using 7.2 setup. But WAIT, maybe you want to future proof to accomodate the atmos tech. Be safe and start putting up thoseextra speaker wires. Also try to use min of 3/4"conduit for each run of wire

Agree! Or maski na mag-5.1 lang siya, baka gusto na din niyang mag-abang for 7.1 PLUS at least 4 channels sa ceiling for atmos tech.

Thanks for the replies. Nagpa abang nako wires sa ceiling for Atmos. Iniisip ko pa kung papaabang din ako back surrounds wires. Pero okay nako sa 5.2.2.

Meron nang receivers na Atmos. Si Pioneer meron na. Onkyo & Denon na din ata. Pero I think pre-out lang yun additional speakers. Abangan natin yun ilalabas ni DTS kamo. Hehe!

In the works pa lang ata or tapos na, ilalabas pa lang. Kailangan pa ba ng FW update ng 838 mo?

Powered na yun additional speakers for the Atmos or sa preout?

those two things am not sure as i'm waiting for the firmware update and ceiling mounted speakers.

first, would get the firmware update and more info on the net then get the ceiling mounted speakers and hopefully download a bd iso that has dolby atmos which there aren't any yet.

should be all set for Christmas yeah ? :D

7.1 sir.... since most of the newer BDs have this already for full effect during watching.

Tinitignan ko nga yun pictures ng likod ng 838. Hindi ko gaano makita yun words sa likod pero parang powered na ata via zone 2 & 3.

should be powered by either the front height or front wide terminals.

the front height is still useful sa 838 but the wide ? since walang audyssey yung onkyo now wala rin silang audyssey dsx. the pl2 surround modes just clone the fronts to the front wides.. at least that's how i hear it.

Hi guys question naman, i just have a bedroom setup and thinking of adding 2 speakers at the back wall sa mismo behind my bed headboard. There is no space there. What ive been reading is the back speakers need back space para tama ang sound effect. With my setup, it will be directly behind my head. My question is if i can do the 7.1 setup kahit with my spacing limitations? Sayang kasi i have a lot of 7.1 blurays and wanna take advantage of it. Thanks.

For TS:  I have a 6m x 6m room and have tried both 7.1 and 5.1 with front wide/high speakers.  The "Audyssey" effect of the 5.1 + wide seem to be provide the most perceivable surround effect for both 5.1 and 7.1 setups.

I agree also with the previous recommendations, have wirings for configurations already laid out while setting up your room.  Really difficult to re-arrange cables once the ceiling, wiring channels, etc. are already made.

It needs space between your ears and the speakers. pero hinaan mo na lang ang volume. Tapos adjust the distance.
