Ganun ba kabilis mapundi ang tubes?

As long as you take care of them properly and do not abuse their power limits, they'll last years naman.

Mauuna ka pang magpalit ulit ng gears or nakapagtube-rolling ka na niyan :)

generally, when biased correctly (not hot, not cold) power tubes could last around 3000-5000 hrs, Small signal tubes last a lot longer, around 15,000-25,000 hrs.

Like with any gear, your mileage may differ from others :)

Ey thanks a lot sa mga inputs nyo. Finally, kampante na. Kulang kasi info sa web regarding bias adjustment of the LM. My manual is very vague din kasi. I got the set point from the online manual if the 219ia. Again salamat.

depends whether your amp is classA or AB1.....
classA amps biases power tubes to 90 to 100% plate dissipation..
classAB amps biases power tubes to 60 to 80% plate dissipation...
class B amps biases power tubes to 10 to 40% plate dissipation...
natural consequence of running plates hot is shorter life....
these are power tubes....
the smaller tubes are biased way below their spec in terms of
plate dissipation, 25% being maximum typical...
so small tubes do lasts longer than power tubes....

Do you have idea on bulb life in hours if set to best sound settings?

bulb life is given on tube datasheets by the manufacturer of the tube, you can search for it in the net...

if you have a power monitor, a class A amp will not change
its power consumption with music, a class AB does....
so this is a simple way to find out...

Sir Tony, power monitor like kill-a-watt or the like? Thank you.
BTW, I think OT na tayo. I'll search the forum for the different class types of amplifiers.
Thank you again for you inputs.

Hi sir Tony, i understand but what Kit_katz is saying, changing the bias to where the Amp will sound best will lower bulb life faster than normal. So which means hindi masusunod yung life given by the manufacturers data sheet? Of course we all wanted our gear to sound at its best thats why if i maximized it and made the changes so it sounds best, ilang % ang mawawala sa given tube life ng manufaturer. Sorry but i'm a newbie at tubes... ;)

Eto sir sabi nya sa ilalim..

Thanks sir Superman for the Inputs!  ;)

Yes sir mayong_md your set bias point is the standard bias point. It can also be on the 1st or on the 3rd depending on your preference just make sure that all tubes (v1-4) are on the same bias point. Also take note sir if you put the bias point before the 1st dot, pangit po tunog or if you put the bias point after the 3rd dot mas maganda po tunog pero mas mabilis po mauubos ung life ng tube.

Thanks!

i see no conflict there....kit_katz said it from a layman's point of view,
my post are technical.....true that most of the time great sound and tube life
are in opposition to each other, so it is up to you to choose....
with new production tubes, this should never be a problem since tubes will
always be available anyway...the object then becomes setting the lower
bias setting that still give you very good sound..

that said, there are other factors that contribute to tube life,
out-gassing, if you see the flash gettering in your tube fade and turn
milky white instead of of the silvery one, then you tube s at end of its life...

Sir Cyberdraven,

Actually, we haven't tried both Cayin and LM on all speakers so what I will share are generalized characteristics of both.

CAYIN - is often sweeter sounding and matches speakers that are on the "brighter" side as it can successfully tame its highs.  The entry levels of Cayin are more laid back and sounds excellent on vocals.  From our experience, Cayin matches B&W, Revel, Sonus, Aurum Cantus and Deuvel quite well.

LM - has more power and command for the same wattage rating.  These matches difficult to drive speakers well.  LM does very well if you like orchestra and fast music as it delivers speed and extended bass.  So far we have seen LM match well with (higher end) Xavian, Dynaudio, Thiel, its single ended does really really well with DeVore speakers.

Then again, music is really very personal. What we have are two very different sounding tube amps.  We carry both because each caters to a specific market and musical preference.  There is really NO best amp just like there is no best tube.  For instance, I happen to prefer EL84 tubes more than EL34 even if the latter gives more wattage.  But thats just me and I know that EL34 has its set of fans as well.

The best judge will be yourself.  Feel free to visit us and we can set up some comparisons for you.

AudioAmplified,

You think I'm right in preferring the CS-100A (which have a sub-out) given the speakers and sub I have? If the LM 518IA has a sub-out, maybe I wouldn't be considering the CS-100A at all. You think the LM 518IA can handle BOTH the low ohm (4ohm) low senstivity (85dB) X12 and PV1D sub (using speaker/high-level connection)?

Also, is your description of the Cayin (smoother, pairs well with bright speakers, etc.) also applies to the CS-100A?

And your description of the LM (matches difficult to drive speakers, etc.) also applies to the 518IA, which has lower power rating as it is SET?

Do I need a high-senstivity higher ohmed speakers (like the DeVore) for the 518IA, or are my speaker and sub ok?

Sorry too many questions...hehe

Cheers.

P.S.: Please PM also prices of both. Thanks in advance.

Im starting my 2 channel music set up at preferred ko ang tube especially single ended so im buying cayin 300B and partner it to audio nirvana super 8 neodymium speaker. Since SET ang naging focus ko kaya ang naging advice sa akin ay humanap muna ng high sensitive speaker then i came to know this AN.

I just demo the line magnetic 518ia together with cd 515. Brought my own cd na il divo and played unbreak my heart and my way, ang lupit ng sound stage. Played also loreena mc kennitt, the mystic dream, labas lahat ng tunog ng instruments. Btw, the speaker is GML loudspeaker Impetus uno which is bookshelf 2 way; first time i heard this speaker and it sound good and match to 518ia.

Thanks for the positive review sir nelcarol .  The LM 518 is indeed a nice amp, there is a reason why it was featured in the front page of stereophile :)

At the hifi show we even featured it with Virtuosa floor stander rated at 86dB but it powered it quite fluidly.

3 weeks ago i was in search of a new amplifier. My budget is in the range of a Cayin cs 55a and a line magnetic 216ia. I auditioned both side by side, thanks to Music Haven. Build quality of both amps are great, considering they were made in china. At first I was blinded by all the extras that came with the Cayin. Dac, phono stage, headphone out and you can tube roll from kt88 to el34. Cayin was the better option in paper atleast. But when i listened to them head to head using an external phono pre amp to be fair with the cayin. I find the cayin warmer, more laid back but fall a little short on bringing out details from the track being played. Im not saying that Cayin is a bad amp. In fact its a great amp with all that feature. I was actually ready to purchase the cayin because I have auditioned it prior to being put head to head with the LM. But for my ears atleast the line magnetic 216ia gave out more detail and is livelier. Im still in the process of burning it in as I type this. Im 30 or so hours in and loving every bit of it.

Thanks for the heads sir regsantos and thank you getting the LM216.

Both tube amplifier have their own strength and audiophile like us have our own listening preference. That is the reason why we brought in both tube amplifiers so we can choose which amplifier suits our listening preferences.

Congrats on your new gear and enjoy. I hope you'll spend countless hours listening to your new tube amplifier  :)  :)  :)

The LM 518ia is described as powerful and able to handle a quite wide range of speakers, delivering the richest and most natural dynamics in the highest resolution over a wide frequency range with no gaps or signs of sonic harshness, perfectly linear, fine, cultured, soft and smooth like silk.
