Singkuwento International Film Festival, Manila, Philippines (SIFFMP) Announces Call for Entries

In line with the celebration of the National Arts Month, MPJ Entertainment Productions, with the co-sponsorhsip of the The National Commission for Culture and the Arts(NCCA), will be launching the first Singkuwento International Film Festival, Manila Philippines (SIFFMP) to be held at the Tanghalang Leandro Locsin located at the NCCA Bldg. in Intramuros, Manila from February 21 to 28, 2015. The competition is open to students, amateurs, and professionals filmmakers.

Singkuwento International started in 2013 as a non-competition travelling festival which showcased short films by a small group of selected filmmakers. This year, it will start its first competition that is open to the public. The objective of the festival is to give voices to Filipinos both here and abroad as well as to provide a channel for non-Filipinos to share their impressions of the Philippines and its people.
The head of the board of judges for this year’s festival is Roberto Reyes Ang. Ang is a film scholar and filmmaker who received his Masters in Cinema Studies from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He also has an Advanced Certificate in Culture and Media from the same university and a Bachelor’s Degree in Comparative Literature with minors in French and Spanish from the University of California, Los Angeles.

The members of the jury are Will Fredo and Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, both are multi-awarded filmmakers who have showcased their work locally and internationally. Fredo is a Filipino-American filmmaker known for his avant garde films. He is also the Resident Director of Hubo Asia. Bernardo is a graduate of the University of the Philippines, Diliman and is among the most respected and fast-rising female filmmakers in the Philipinnes. She is also the founder and Director of Pixel-Eyes Media.

Perry Escaño is the organizer of the event. Escaño is the Events, Casting, Development and Productions Managing Director of MPJ Entertainment Productions.
