Is English Only, Please really any good? Best Actor, Actress, Story, Screenplay, Editing, Director... you'd think it's like the Silver Linings Playbook for this year's MMFF :p

It was co-written by Antoinette Jadaone who made Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia crapapay, one of the best Pinoy films of the past few years, IMO. I will see this one before the year is out.

Klaus make your own review naman on the MMFF movies you have watched, please. It seems to it you have the K to review. Maybe ill watch together with the family the movie which you personally find it good or what you may brand as "worth watching."  :D

I have reviews of Kubot (worth watching!) and two of the MMFF New Wave films on the front page. I follow a lot of people who actually watch ALL the entries to know which ones are worth watching. Three things are consistent: The best films among the magic 8 are Kubot, English Only Please and the "Ulam" segment of Shake, Rattle and Roll XV.

yup it is, you won't feel robbed after watching it, and it seems like the MMFF board is finally recognizing the need of the more discerning moviegoers for quality Filipino fare during the holidays and is trying to provide a number of "viewable" options together with the dumbed down money-rakers...

I think the title (and the actress' name) is Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Coontapay . Darn this auto-edit.

English Only, Please (Dan Villegas) *** - A Filipino-American, dumped by his Filipina girlfriend, hires a Filipina translator to tutor him in Filipino so he can properly recite an angry Filipino piss-off speech to her. Hmmm. I wonder if the  two of them will get together. Yes, it's a Filipino rom-com. Yes, they're pretty much exactly like rom-coms of any nationality. Yes, a lot of the familiar narrative beats are all there but the script was co-written by Antoinette Jadaone, one of Filipino cinema's most exciting voices. She somehow makes formulaic rom-coms somehow more intelligent and far more palatable for at least my taste. It also helps that the two leads, Derek Ramsay and Jennylynn Mercado are gosh-darned charming as well. It's pure fluff but entertaining and not insulting.

Does this mean the movie is really not worth watching? or mga mabababaw lang talaga ang mga pinoy at mas gusto nila mga patawa ng mga bakla?

Says a lot about the level of intellect of the masa.  The very same ones who vote for the nations leaders.  Sheesh.  :(

After this, maybe it's about time Mr. Ramsay start breaking bones on screen...after all, he's MMA-trained, and an action film (a la Gareth Evans' Raid movies) should be the logical step now that he has the clout.

What the Philippine film industry needs is another straight-up action thriller along the lines of OTJ.

^ pwede! Kailangan lang na magaling na fight choreographer to make it stand out. Naunahan na tayo ng Malaysia and Indonesia (Thailand nauna na) sa action martial arts film producing world class actors.

Sad to say, ang action fight sequence natin, including all action sequences, are all lousy malapit sa Bollywood action films!

saw English Only, Please last Tuesday in a fully=packed Glorietta theater. Funny but kind of predictable. Jennylyn Mercado is the reason to watch the movie. Ang galing nya! Si Derek, kulang pa. Dinaan sa pa-pogi

Saw English Only Please.  It's a well-made romcom, formulaic, but very watchable.
