Media Player Recommendation and Suggestions (3-5k)
« on: May 04, 2015 at 02:25 PM »
Hi everyone,

I am in the hunt for a second media player. Can you recommend the best brand new unit one can purchase at a budget of 5k which, hopefully, can do and/or have the following:

1. Can easily take and make use of my Probox 4Bay enclosure (non-raid version) with 4 x 4TBs;
2. Can play the most type and kind of video files including, but not limited to, BDs and isos with fully functional menus for the BDs;
3. Can send and make work the following audio formats to my Yammy 573, DTS, DD, DTS-HD, DTS HDSMA and etc. 7.1?
4. Wifi would be a plus.
5. USB3 would be a plus as well.
6. Long warranty period, or 1yr at least.

Thanks.

If Item No. 2 is important to you (BDs and isos with fully functional menus for the BDs) then your budget is not enough...
Only Sigma based media players are capable of this feature like Popcorn Hour A300 and C300 (not A400 or A410)...
Also the previous models of Dune HD Media Players like the Dune Smart HD
These models are more than 10K pesos...

Thanks Louie. So if working menus is a must, regardless of model as lon as its sigma based it would work?

Anyone has issues with their Probox together with WD TV? Probox compatibility is likewise important to me.

Sir if you can stretch a little on your budget you may try med800x3d.
I saw from a friend, it displays BD Menu (lite).
Kung gusto mo naman fanless you may try med1000x3d pero baka d mo magustuhan yung parang ufo ang hugis.

I used to own med1000x3d before,  walang problema sa 4bay probox.

Not all Sigma based are capable bro...
Like the PCH A400 and A410, these players do not support full bluray menu.
Only the previous models like the C300 and A300...
If you can find preowned Egreat S100 and S800, these are cheaper alternatives, I myself is looking for this ;D

I can only enjoy the Full Blu-ray menu from ISO files on a NMT based on the Realtek 1186 Chip.

Most NMT I tried offers BD Menu (lite) which is fine for movies but difficult for concerts.

Thanks Nogs. Its just going to be a secondary NMT so I really do not want to spend more than 5k if possible.  How much difference in price by and between WD TV and the 600x or 800x? What can the med8tor do which the WD TV can't?

I agree. I actually own a S800. Got it brand new from Jim years back. It has served me well and it literally handled anything and everything I threw at it. My Probox works well to, able to recognize all four (4) of my 4TB HDDs. If there is someone selling a pre-owned S100, why not. :)

Thanks Cooltoyz. Does WD TV have any NMT that is 1186 based? Does it mean there is no WD TV that can play even BD Menu Lite?

Hi Nogo, would you know if the Probox 4-bay enclosure, non-raid version, would work on the Mede8r, be it 600 or 800 version?

Where did you get your 800 version for 6,5k?

Thanks
