Miyajima Cartridges : The Cross-ring MC Cartridge
« on: Jun 11, 2015 at 03:29 PM »

Founded on March 27th 1980,  Miyajima Laboratory is an exceptional company, founded and led by Mr. Noriyuki Miyajima – music and good sound lover, a man active in audio for years, the man behind the successful  invention of cross-ring method in producing cartridges.  In 2002 the company patented their own construction of a monophonic cartridge, and then in 2005 a stereo one.

Miyajima's cartridges design uses a patented  "cross-ring" construction that centers the generator's fulcrum (pivot point) within the coil. This means that the generator’s fulcrum or pivot point is centered within the coil so that every movement of the cantilever provides an instantaneous signal. It also means the left- and right-channel coils are wound in a pattern of overlapping ellipses very
much like the crossing rings in a gyroscope.

The Miyajima's Flagship Cartridge - Madake Stereo Cartridge just recently received a Gold Fingerprint award, the highest form of award given by High Fidelity.

Madake is a beautifully hand made MC Stereo Cartridge with a unique bamboo cantilever that imbues the sound of any record groove with its distinctive resonant character.

Bamboo cantilever?!

Isn't Miyajima the father-daughter manufacturer?  Father designs the carts and the daughter hand assembles them?

Shilabe is another Premiere cartridge from Miyajima Lab

Shilabe is a remarkable cartridge. It seems warm, but is at the same time resolved. There is beautiful, deep bas and a strong, slightly warm midrange. Noting else to add or to subtract. Unless... Did I tell you, that Shilabe is the best cartridge I ever heard?

- Wojciech Pacuła of High Fidelity

Technical data:
Model: Shilabe
Type: stereo
Impedance: about 16Ω
Output voltage: about 0.23mV
Frequency response: 20Hz-32kHz
